Amundson or Williams... Who Would You Choose?

Im going with Williams, purely because of his defense. Which we desprately need.
(I know that there are other players fighting for a spot on the team, but i thought that becuase these guys are going for a similar position just having them in the poll would be alright.)

I'm going to wait a bit before I cast my vote. I don't think one pre-season game is enough for me to judge. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much difference it will make. The real problem isn't which one do they keep but rather how do they find a way to add anyone...

No and unfortunately it's one of the few things we all-powerful moderators (just kidding!) can't do, either. At this point, you would have to redo the poll.
It's okay. I was just voicing a personal pet peeve because I'm nosy. I like to see who voted for which option. I think it keeps people honest. More than once I've seen someone (not realizing it was a public poll) vote one way and then argument vehemently the other way in the text.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time deciding. JWill did great and I hope he could be our PF of the future behind SAR. Lou is all about hustle seeing him go from baseline to baseline like he did against the Mavs. He definately is a work in progress like JWill, he looked very bad shooting free throws bein 0 of 4 I think it was. I want both of these guys as I want Price to stay and Hart to leave. I was really impressed with Corliss, he played a heck of a game.
Right now I hope we drop Hart & Potato for some pics or something and keep the young and hungry Amundson and JWill. JWill brings defense, has a decent free throw shot and has lots of potential. I can say the same about Amundson, but man he needs to work out his shooting in a big way. I think Amundson shows great potential, but needs a little time to work out his shot. JWill is ready to go now, and just needs to hit the weights and put on some good muscle to his frame. If you'd take a combo of Amundson's muscles, with JWills skills you'd have a heck of a player. I like them both. I cannot get over Lou's muscle tone, he is looking huge for being 6' 9" and runs the floor great. Maybe his muscle tone and hustle will get him a spot with Musselman?
Maybe he can give Brad some pointers in the weight room.Ultimately I'm torn after seeing the 2 in 1 game. I love what they both bring to the table, if only Lou could shoot half way decently, he'd be a no brainer to add to the team. You have to think why wouldn't he know how to shoot? He is very athletic and a hard worker and that's what we need. I just hate to think that without much offense GP will not like him enough. We are about defense though this year and beyond so who knows?

I voted Williams, of the two rookie bigs I've been more excited about him from the start strictly for his rebounding and shotblocking abilities.
I'm hoping he puts up similar numbers in the next game, or maybe even gets more minutes...I really want him on the team this season, Kings have needed a player like him for awhile, and to find one so young...He can only improve with experience.

God that would be ideal. I hate the idea of having a guy(potato) on the bench that really isn't going to bring much to the table, and is not going to get any better.
Agreed. Because we all know what a representative sample the first preseason game is....
I admit this poll might be a bit premature, but there are people here that are already set on the player they would like to see rocking the purple this season.
And yet, Jerry said last night that both Lou and Justin need a good weight program.
Did you see Amundson with his hands on his hips and his big guns? This guy is doing great in the weight room, JWill needs to hit the weights and add lbs of muscle to his frame. Lou has wide shoulders and is quite the specimen, my wife and I agree he looks like a cross between Ashton Cusher and Josh Hartnett, more like Josh. He's Josh on steroids!!!

I voted for Lou because he isn't getting much support so far, but I like JWill as well, I think JWill had the better 1st game, though Lou showed his quickness. The guy at 6' 9" moves like a guard which is awesome, I know why Artest likes him so much!!!

Man, one game and people are ready to throw Amundson under the bus. Do you guys remember Francisco Garcia's first preseason game? Holy crap was he bad. How about Kevin Martin's?

I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it will make a difference. I just don't see either one getting 10 minutes a game because I don't think that eitehr is going to make the 13 man. If they are planning on keeping Thomas, SAR, Taylor, Miller on the 13 man roster- I don't see Williams/Amundson cracking the last spot on the 13 man ahead of the large Potato contract or Loren Woods.
Like I said- I could be wrong (and I hope I am), but I just can't see them beating the numbers game to get on the active roster.

This may very well be voter error. This is way more common than people would ever guess - even outside of Florida. Many very liberal minded people have voted for Patrick Buchanan and do not even know it.

If the Kings decide to go with as many as fifteen and no guarentees there, I'm not sure why both can't make it. The Kings would have to get rid of three but it would not have to include a large ending contract such as Potapenko. That ending could possibly be a very valuable asset.
Jeter (1) - easy and assumed one
Hart (2) - hard to eat his ~$1.7 million contract, but .......
Woods (3) - if I remember right, he received something like $200k and is guarenteed only $400K more, the rest isn't guarenteed. With Taylor inked now, he may have become expendable.

Justin needs to make this team...As I said in a different thread, there is just something about him I really like...If he can fill out and retain his quickness, I think he could actually be a defensive stopper.

Hard to judge right now, but I saw them both in a couple of the summer league games and if I HAD to choose I would say Justin. I really wish both could stay and be sent down to the NBDL. I think both could have an impact now too though.
Trust me, you haven't seen anything from Louis yet. After the next game I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of you wanted him to stay over Justin.

That three and a half million dollar guarenteed contract is nothing to sneeze at. Although, I'm not much better suggesting they possibly eat Hart's $1.7 million. If, and that is a very big if, the opportunity arises that expiring could be very valuable. Trouble is, so could Hart's.
The other question would be, what is Williams contract like? If he makes the team is it just a one year deal or is it hopefully like Amundson's, a team optioned three year deal? If it is a one year deal, what's the point? You probably lose him before he develops like it is hoped. If it is like Admundson's, you have potential to have him locked up relatively long term on the cheap.

One thing I don't quite get. If Potapenko never plays then we are still technically "eating" his contract aren't we? Not only that but losing some young talent in the process.
I am sure Pot would be all for a buyout if he knows he isn't in the plans.
As for the expiring being valuable. Not likely for us in a trade sense. I see Petrie letting the salary fall off the books to prepare to re-sign/extend guys like Bibby, Artest, Martin, etc, and possibly get a FA this upcoming offseason.

I like your point, if Pot doesn't play he is a waste just like Corliss was last season. He is in a contract year and played a heck of a game last night (Corliss, I hope this is a preview of what's to come this year, kind of replacing the banging and hustle Bonzi was for us last year). We could make dropping Pot and Hart a wash by signing JWill and Amundson for dirt cheap. I don't see a need for Hart with Price being as athletic and defensive as he is and Douby being as long armed and hungry to prove himself. Price should get the nod behind Salmons who is going to get playing time behind both guards spots, then Price behind that at PG, Douby off the bench for SG, then PG (needs to learn this more, strickly a minor league guy though to develop). Salmons can be our 6th man like SAR, so these guys can battle it out and be our 6/7 guys. All in all I like this team.
One question, how many guys can we have on our 15 man roster that we can send down to the minors? I see Douby, then JWill2, followed by Amundson. When do we have to trim to 15? I know 11/1 isn't far so I know not long, can we keep them throughout the preseason? I really want to see them battle it out and get chances to prove themselves. I really hate to think that Wood and Taylor will kick out a JWill2 though, just because these guys are cheap and have played in the NBA, doesn't mean that you don't give JWill2 a chance to develop if you like what you see in him, also in Amundson if he learns to shoot. I know we have a big roster of lots of guanteed guys, but you can offset eating a contract for 1 year, because you can offset that with signing a Rookie for very cheap for like 2-3 years and he is very hungry and will get better whereas a Hart, Potato, Woods you know what you get and are not very impressed with it. I really hope we are bold enough to do this eventhough the contracts are stacked in such a way with so little roster space that it really is a #s game.
