Did you see the show?

Why was Elliot bawling the way he was?
Why was Pickler crying even after admitting she was not that familiar with Stevie Wonder?
Why did Stevie have to say to every contestant to don't be nervous?
Why did Ace seem so moved and touched when he was interviewed about Stevie Wonder?
Why did Mandisa act like she was going to crawl under the piano when Stevie came into the room? and then....

WHY DID EACH ONE OF THE MENTIONED (except mandisa) SUCK SO BAD WHEN THEY SANG?

Maybe because they thought that was how they were supposed to act?

How would I know why? Why do Paula and Randy act like Kevin is the next Barry Manilow?

Some questions defy logical answers.
 
I see PR's point about them (or most of them) being visably moved being in the same room with Stevie Wonder and then singing his songs for him. But they didn't sing for him during the competition. If they're going to get all goosey because they are singing songs someone famous sang or in the presence of someone famous - those who can't handle that are going to get weeded out and those with more stage presence are going to move on.
 
IMO ... review of last nights Idols interaction w/Barry Manilow and their performance:

Mandisa - Excellent
Paris - Excellent
Katherine - Excellent
Lisa - Okay
Kelley - Pretty Darn Good

Bucky - Not a good week
Chris - Pretty Good - he know his niche' - but, to me they all sound
the same
Elliott - Excellent ... dude has got range - very strong
Kevin - Okay ... not powerful at all ....
Ace - Good .... he's finally showing his capabilities

Gone ...

if guy = Bucky
if girl = Lisa
 
Is anyone else annoyed by Paris?? She is very talented, it's not that. She's just way too cutesy-cute with her size, speaking voice, and attitude.
 
I did not watch last night or even tonight due to the Kings. I have it on the 'ole DVR. I will be back on Friday with my critique. It sounds like the performances were pretty good.

Yes, VF21 is happy...well, as happy as VF21 can be after seeing a "not happy" performance by the Kings.

Bucky and Lisa are next .... in no particular order

Lisa is good, just not as strong as Mandisa, Katherine or Paris (that's my order)

Kelley .... hummmmm .... she's capable, it's all in the presentation

Elliot is by-far, the strongest & most versatile male Idol this year-IMO

Chris & Taylor ... will do well - but, in comparison to Elliot-no contest

Ace .... hummmm ... same scenario as Kelley - capable - let's see it

Bucky ... like Simon say's ... NO WOW FACTOR

Got the opportunity to watch last night. I thought that Mandisa was by far the strongest performance and in my view has now taken the lead. She is so smooth and consistant. I don't think I have heard her sing a bad note yet.

Before this group started I predicted that Elliott would win. However, for a few weeks he was less than what I anticipated. But now, Elliott is back right on top as far as the males. His strong suit is Jazz and he can sing it with the best of them.

Although I am glad Kevin has now gone home, he was better than Bucky and Lisa. I agree those are the next to go.

I want to talk about Chris. It seems that America loves him and I would not be surprised if he wins. But I agree with Folsom Al. Everything he sings sounds the same. he takes every genre and makes it a rocked out song. I am not sure if that is fair or not, but it is starting to get a little mundane. If he ever decides to break out of his comfort level, you may see a true American Idol. But not right now. Pickler is starting to get on my nerves, but she was good.

I guess I'm one of the few who isn't bowled over by Mandisa. In fact, I tend to look at her the same way some people are looking at Chris.

I will admit there's a lot more variety left in the 10 remaining hopefuls than I think they've had before...which probably explains why there are so many different takes on who's best.

My Ratings below:

I love country music which is why I rate Kelly so high. A country signer has done very well outside of Idol the last 2 years in a row, other then that Idol has really only produced Kelly Clarkson. Which is why I think Chris is going to do very well, he could be producing radio hits today.

Chris brings somewhat of an "already a star" quality. His rendition of Walk the Line gave me chills and I think would be a hit if played on the radio today. Remember I love country music and Johnny Cash. So without further JIBBER JABBER, the rankings!

In terms of vocals only:
I think Katherine has the best voice with Mandisa a very tight second if not a tie. I could easily entertain arguments for either of them as being the best but Katherine is just my personal favorite. I said from the auditions that I thought she was the best. I think Elliot is the best vocal male but he is really going to need to step it up, I haven't been impressed with him yet. Taylor could move up into Elliots spot but it's going to depend a lot on how the themes play out. He could move up if he has a very good week.

Katharine being gorgeous probably has something to do with being many people's favorites. She also has a cute personality, but she certainly is not lacking in the looks department. I wonder how many votes that will sway her.

Let's keep the power ranking thingy going. After Wednesday night's elimination, come back to the board and post your Top 9 and let's see how accurate we are as amateur music producers. On Saturday/Sunday I will tally the votes and post the results.

And funny looking over the stats I bet we are pretty close to right on. Each of us has our own favorites but any one of the top 4 will be there in the end. Don't need to be Simon to know that.

With this week sounding like its open season on basically any theme, I think it will really work towards the strength of Kelly, Chris and Taylor. Actually this would be the week I expect to see Taylor slap down a Michael Mcdonald type performance. If he doesn't make you go wow this week I will have to lower my rankings of him. I expect Chris to nail it as well as Kelly to do well on a modern country song.
 
American Idol Week 11 (Top 10)

Hey I beat ya FAL. I am not sure if we need a new thread every week so I will let VF decide that. I started a new one here because the other active thread is labled Week 10.

Interesting night, here are my thoughts and comments. This is not my overall ranking PR ... just the ranking for last night.

#1 Elliott - Definitely and by far the best of the night, he was just awesome. Now I see what everyone here was seeing in him. Great Great performance.
#2 Paris - I thought she was very good also, one of her best and one of the best for the night Although her being #2 is more an indication how I felt about the entire night. Very sub-par show.
#3 Katherine - She was #1 for the night until Paris and Elliott went.
#4 Kellie - I know Simon didn't like her but I thought she did a nice job and compared to the others... She has a little Dolly in her voice and I love that.
 #5 Chris - I have been very high on Chris the entire season, this week I dropped a bit. I actually thought the same comment that Simon did “Creed wouldn't be caught dead on AI"
#6 Taylor - Taylor, everyone’s favorite but I was not impressed. Need him to do some of his funky dance moves.
#7 Mandisa - She has good pipes but she is not the next AI - I didn't know were to put her to be honest. She probably shouldn't be #7, just not sure on her.
Bottom 3:
Lisa - This was the last straw for her, she is as good as gone.

Bucky - Butchered a great song, I don't see him being like Josh Gracin. JG has a great overall voice. Bucky doesn't have that range and is kind of 1-dimensional, when he leaves I don’t expect to see him on the charts.

Ace - Like Bucky he absolutely butchered a great song and one of my favorite songs at that. I love train and his performance/butchering actually P* me off. I wish you could vote off a person because he gets my vote. And his showing of the Scar, he stupid glare into the camera at the end of every song, I just wanna reach out and sock him.





 
Everybody was subpar. Only Taylor, Katherine and Elliott made it somewhat interesting (but even that was nothing too exciting).
