American Idol - And the weeks go on (merged)

I thought about comin' in here last night - but, I was too disgusted with that awful display of a sport we call Basketball

Okay - back to the topic at hand ...

Last night was THE WORST NIGHT OF FINALIST I've ever been witness to. What is it with the songs these people picked ??? Here's my ranking of last nights performances:

#1 - Katherine - Not great - but good enough to go on
#2 - Elliott - Bad choice of music - still an excellent voice
#3 - Paris - struggling with song selection - but she's trying
#4 - Mandisa - Just cuz you love a song - doesn't mean do it
#5 - Taylor - he'll survive
#6 - Kellie - SUDS - never heard the song
#7 - Chris - I am now totally bored with this guy
#8 - Ace - better start showing that talent
#9 - Bucky - only prayer is Lisa did worse
#10 - Lisa - yuck !!!

#62
Lisa - buh-bye!! No way she is going to be staying around after last night. She really just shot herself in the foot just with her choice of song. The contestants should never, ever pick a song that has been popular recently, and especially by someone (Clarkson) with such a more superior vocal range than Lisa has.

Ace - that was a really good song choice, but he butchered it. He really made a big mistake by not singing the whole chorus, that would of been a good opportunity to show off some vocal range.

Mandisa - I liked her performance. Course I'm biased because 'Praise You' is one of my favorite Christian songs. The contestants were told they could pick and musical style they wanted, so that is what she did.

Paris - another bad song choice. Her performance was good, it just could of been so much better with a different song.

Everyone was subpar, but I think Taylor did the best out of all of them. I think the fatigue of their busy schedule is really starting to get to them.

Here are my thoughts from last night's show...

SHOW PRODUCTION
American Idol should consider expanding their one hour shows once they get into the Top 10 to 90 minutes, because the show felt very rushed. Seacrest was rushing, the contestants did not have enough time to work through their songs which I think made for a very poor production and a mediocre at best night of performances

SIMON COWELL
Simon seemed to contradict himself last night on two issues. Last week he said to Chris that he was the very first Idol contestant to not compromise who he is and stuck with what he does best. On last night he told Chris that in so many words he was becomming redundant and needed to show another side of him (which I completely agree about Chris).

Earlier in the season, Simon said to Paris that she was a little "too granny" and needed to sing more songs that reflected her youth. And then once Paris got her groove on and completely and effectively showed her youthful exuberance, he said she looked like a little kid trying to be like Beyonce WTH!!

BOTTOM THREE PREDICTION
Lisa - she is so vanilla. Time to go home.

Pickler - Second coming of Ellie Mae Clampett. It is wearing thin. Plus singing about some Suds in the Bucket may have lost America. Her vocals were average.

Ace - Showing your nasty scar does not compensate for a terrible performance. He is much better than that. But his Hollywood looks will keep him around for a little while longer

BEST TWO OF THE NIGHT (in no particular order)
Paris – Her rendition of “Bouncy’s” Work It Out was hot. She sang it well, she moved it well and her personality was on display.

Elliott – My man is back. Although his look is not condusive to the Idol image, he can sang. His song I did not know, but what ever it was, he sang it very well.

THE REST OF THEM…

Chris – Creed is not for American Idol. He has got to show that he can do more than rock it out. Nothing wrong with rock, but you can not always do Pearl Jam’s version of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” every single week.

Mandisa – I love me some Mandisa. I am a huge fan of Mary Mary. And I am absolutely in love with God. But what she did last night did not do it for me. She seemed to scream her way through the song, and also rushed through it. Hopefully it will be better next week.

Kathrine – In the words of Randy Jackson, “It was just al’ight fro me”. She too has to show a little bit of versatility. Stop trying to be sexy in everysong, it ain’t working.

Bucky – I thought he was better last night than he has been in the past. I still think his talent is inferior to the rest of the group and every week it shows.

Taylor– I like Taylor a lot. He seems to be running out of steam and enthusiasm. Oh, he will be around for a while, but I hope he gets back to the Taylor of old.

Elimination tonight - Lisa

Absolutely agree about the contradicting messages from Cowell, but I almost thought tho that Cowell was maybe being a little backhanded when he made that statement last week. When he made that statement previously – that he really had the needle stuck in one position no matter what anybody threw at him almost seeming to say he was stubborn. I was with Chris after his Fuel performance, but I’ve been done with him since the RHCP rendition of Higher Ground. If he does bust out a love song that sounds like he really can do something remotely different sounding then I may look at him differently.

I’ve been on the Elliott boat for a while but didn’t fully appreciate how much I like him until last night.

I’m over Ace. Katherine and Mandissa were bleh. Pickler needs to go soon. I’ve had a complete turnaround re: Taylor – I thought he was gimmicky previously, but he’s grown on me the last few weeks. Bucky, your days are numbered.

Last night was horrible. Several times it actually physically hurt my ears to listen.

Taylor-Best of the evening. I enjoyed the fact he just sang it. He has a fantastic voice and he is already a pro.

Mandissa-Great vocals, but didn't like the song. Not my thing, but she was good.

Elliott-Great. I personally like the arrangement. He has such a command over his voice. It was nice to see him sell it as well. I have not seen him sell a song until last night.

Paris-Fine vocally, but disturbing to watch.

Ace-OK. Like his higher belt. Wish he would do more with that, but he insists on this boy band sound that I can't stand. I like his falsetto and he has a great higher belt that he touches on now and again, but not enough. He needs to show his range more.

Katharine-I thought she was terrible. It hurt my ears to listen to her. Thought the song choice was awful. She sounded nasaly and all over the place. I hated it. Absolutely hated it.

Bucky-Whatever. Eh. Liked him better than Chris but that is not saying much.

Chris-Boring. Who cares. Sounds like everyone else on the radio who sings rock. Nothing special at all.

Lisa-Hurt my ears as well. Very pitchy the whole time. Not her competition. She will go tonight.

Kellie-Can't stand her. Grating voice and I can't stand the fake stupidity. Plus this is the 2nd week in a row she has said "I'm Sorry". She needs to go.

I'll tell you why last night's show was unimpressive (to say the least). Because EACH SONG WAS 90 SECONDS LONG!!!!! I understand they condensed the top 10 to an hour... well, that really cut into the quality of the performances. Dramatically. Ace barely sang four lines of "Drops of Jupiter", and then the song was over. No WONDER everybody was bad!! They had no time to shape their songs!!! How can you expect an artist to convey dramatic range and emotionally connect with an audience by singing one verse and then an ending?!?!

This show reminded me of me repeatedly clicking "Next" on my iTunes every 30 seconds or so to get to a song that I wanted to hear.

Oh, Lisa Tucker, hmmm... nah *click* Pickler... nah *click* Ace Young... nah *click* Mandisa...

Seriously. I can see what he's saying, but he's just confusing the artists with his words, and his criticism, which, as I recall, used to be brutal, but helpful, isn't helpful anymore.

I agree the songs were cut, but I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly don't think any of the ones who sounded horrible last night would have gotten any better with a minute or two more. I was grateful that some of their performances ended prematurely.

I actually think he's being honest at times and I also see signs of being disappointed. I also see him being non-judgemental and agreeable just to get the evening over with.

For a group of people that made it to the Final 12 - IMO, only 4 people are capable of having a promising career in the music industry.

And from what I saw last night .... I would've found it hard to give any of them a GLOWING REVIEW ... last night was horrible and painful and I think Simon just really wanted to get out of there.

He's acted that way in the past with some of his comments and I thought that was kinda odd and pointed it out to whomever I was watching with. Last night, they saw this kinda behaviour in Simon as well ... so I wasn't that far off.

IMO - Simon is disappointed in the way the Finalist are NOT PERFORMING.

I agree. I used to like Lisa. She was strong earlier in the competition but once it was down to the top 12, she has cooled down considerably. She can sing, but I think she has lost "it." Last night, the performance was just horrible! Poor song choice, too. Not really a fan of Clarkson and Lisa's voice really couldn't handle the song.

This is my first post about AI. I've been reading, though. I just wanted to know if people are as sick as I am with the whole "Hi, I'm Kellie, I'm stupid, vote for me." She's acting all "cutesie" and Jessica Simpson-ish. I hate it. The annoying thing, too, is, save for last night, after every song she gets like 20 minutes of one-on-one interview with Seacrest. She just gets too much airtime. Argh. She HAS to go.

Well, since it hasn't come on yet:

I agree with most everyone else, last night was bad. Disappointing. The song choices were puzzling at best. And to top it off I actually agreed with Simon on all comments!

How I ranked them from last night:
1. Katherine--perhaps the best all around Idol contestant. Has the look, the voice etc.
2. Elliot--Best male voice in the competition The song wasn't great, but he was trying to expand from what he's shown thus far but still sang it in his style.
3. Chris--I like him. I think he's been the best "rocker" AI has seen. The song might have been a bit too much for "mainstream America" though
4. Taylor--I don't like, but at the same time I kind of do. The song was ok
5. Mandisa--The song...had a specific audience, which doesn't really help in terms of attracting America as a whole. She can flat out sing, not doubt about that.
6.Ace--Vocally, he's not at the level to win this thing and the song wasn't doing much for me. In fact I think he made me dislike it. But he's so dreamy...;)
7. Paris--Couldn't agree with Simon more. She did remind me of a kid impersonating an artist. It was just way over the top. And add that to the fact that she has begun to annoy me.
8. Bucky--Well, I love the song but that's because I love Tim McGraw. It was good karaoke
9. Lisa--Just way out of her league
10. Kellie--I like the song. Its cute, but it works for Sara Evans because of the voice she has. Kellie managed to take a "cute" song and even with all the "cutiesie" gimmicks she has been sold on make the song annoying. Bad arrangement, bad vocals just all around bad.

Who gets voted off? Lisa or Bucky.

I wasn't surprised by Katharine in the bottom 3 last night based on the previous night's performance. Personally, I thought she was horrible on Tues. night. I was more surprised at Ace in the bottom 3. Where I was not totally impressed with his performance, I thought it was better than Bucky's ole stand by. Lisa was no surprise at all.

The next 3 to go should be IMHO Bucky, Kellie and then Ace. Paris and Chris following quickly. This should be Taylor, Mandissa, Elliot and Katharine's competion.

#76
Of all the performances this past Tuesday, I thought Katherine's was at least in the TOP 3 ... in comparison to her previous performances, this one stunk - but in comparison to the others that evening, IMO - it was A ROSE IN A FIELD OF DAISIES.

I didn't see the show so I can't give my rankings for this week. I almost switched over on Tuesday but felt somewhat obligated to do the PBP. Next time, I may just switch over and do a PBP of American Idol. ;)

Can't say I'm sorry to see Lisa go. She had been getting on my nerves.

I'm merging this thread into the existing one. I'll fix the title... I like to be able to go back and see how people's impressions have changed.

Completely taken by surprise with Katherine in the bottom 3
I was very   , her being in the bottom is hard to believe but then again I said it a few weeks ago. I think she comes across with a weird personality. I liked Lisa and for only being 16 or 17 I thought she was great, anyway would rather have seen Ace go but understood Lisa.

#1 - Elliott
#2 - Katherine
#3 - Kelly
#4 - Taylor
#5 - Mandisa
#6 - Chris
#7 - Bucky
#8 - Paris
#9 - Ace

Okay my weeks overall rankings are all screwed up from last week and a little scewed from my actual show rankings. This past week was so bad I really don't know were to put anyone. I think I will put a little of this weeks rankings with some forcasting on next weeks Country theme.

**VF you have DishN right? Call them and get yourself a DVR, I think they will upgrade it for free and you'll never miss a show again during the Kings games. **

Waxer - I would have to buy a new receiver and those aren't free. And there's an additional charge per month. I'd rather just whine...

I actually was able to watch the whole show and take notes as I did. Here, for whatever they're worth, are my impressions (in order of performance).

1. Taylor - Take Me Home, Country Roads. Not the best song he could have selected. Taylor is NOT John Denver. He had a slow start but seemed to improve. Decent finish. Just not a performance to remember. 7.0
2. Mandisa - Any Man of Mine. Horrible song selection. She was off-key for almost the entire performance. Mandisa is to country what the Kings were (tonight) to defense. She should have picked anyone other than Shania Twain. 6.5
3. Elliott - If Tomorrow Never Comes. Pretty pitchy at the start. These singers are finding out that country is tougher than it seems. Garth Brooks doesn't have to worry. 7.5
4. Paris - How Do I Live Without You. Started off wobbly, then seemed to calm down but couldn't find a way to sell the song. Simon praised her but I cannot see why. LeAnn Rimes' signature song is safe. 7.5
5. Ace - I Wanna Cry. His voice isn't necessarily the strongest in the competition, but his interpretation of this Keith Urban song was very good. Fit him quite well. 8.5
6. Kellie - Fancy. Watch out, Reba! Tonight was Kellie's time to shine and boy did she! Regardless of what else happens, she had her moment in the sun. 9.5
7. Chris - Making Memories of Us. Perfect selection. He nailed it. The country ballad showed a side of Chris we hadn't seen before. Perfect selection, well done and solid. 9.5
8. Katherine - Bringing Out the Elvis in Me. Not the worst, but not the best. Her rendition of this Faith Hill classic was good enough to keep her around but not in the top three performances tonight. 8.0
9. Bucky - Best I Ever Had. Horrible song selection. This should have been Bucky's night but he was outperformed by Ace, Kellie and Chris. The song was just not the best he could have had and, quite frankly, he could have done it better. 7.5

I love country music so I really feel I was able to be pretty objective about these songs.

Here, therefore, are my rankings for tonight's performances:

1. Chris
2. Kellie
3. Ace
4. Katherine
5. Paris
6. Elliott
7. Bucky
8. Taylor
9. Mandisa

Did you hear Paula tell Bucky that he (and Kellie) stood out above the rest?!?!?! This immediately after she was leaning her head on Randy's shoulder for no apparent reason.

That comment did it in for me... now I am fully convinced that she is on something... prescription drugs... or non-prescription drugs...

Taylor: Hated it all
Mandisa: I was hoping she would pick something better. I love the song, but once again I love it for Shania. Espescially considering Mandisa previous connections to many of country's leading ladies (she sang back-up for much of Nashville), I would have expected more.
Elliott: It was ok. I would have picked a different song. Maybe something from Rascal Flatts or even Kenny Rodgers
Paris: for the first time since her auditions, I didn't find her annoying. I actually liked it.
Ace: I love the song and I love Keith Urban, but hated it tonight. It was bad, but he's so dreamy......;)
Kellie: It was good. I liked it.
Chris: It was ok, but if he was going to do Kieth Urban then he should have done You'll think of me--it would gave him a lot more emotion.
Katherine: I loved it.
Bucky: He ruined a great song:mad:

Tonights ranking:
Katerine
Kellie
Paris
Chris
Elliot
Mandisa
Ace
Taylor
Bucky

Who goes home? Bucky.
