All Time Kings Draft...on a Tropical Island?

I would just like to take time to point out the exemplary manner in which R2D2 posts his guys' stats -- no need for me to look anything up, crunch numbers, or reformat. Good droid! :p

We're off the edge of the map. Here be Dragons :D

Alright, that last swing through the snake was really nasty, eliminating almost every single player I had targeted for this pick. And so onto Plan J:

SG Cuttino Mobley

'04-05 43gms 38.7min
17.8pts (.440 .424 .831) 3.9reb 3.4ast 1.2stl 0.5blk 2.1TO

Who better to fit in with my rough and rugged crew than the Man in Pink? Eh...anyway, probably the most prolific player still on the board, and I felt like I should get one more major offensive weapon before settling into tryign to build a workable team. Cat quick, deadly 3pt shooter, liked the big shot, could play a little point, and surprisingly even a little smallball SF with a surprising little postgame. Was even known as a Kobe stopper once and could play defense when he wanted to (which depended on moon cycles). Also an expert at making sure he got up his requisite number of shots each game. Was here for about 2/3 of one season, so falls into the same category of guys as the Landry pick or the Salmons pick, but his stats here were pretty consistent with his season and career stats as a whole, so wasn't a fluke. In any case, best weapon still on the board, and somebody for the bangers up front to give a wedgie to (which sadly Cat would probably enjoy).

Blast...Mobley was who I wanted with this pick...

Choice as soon as I make up my mind who I want...

Well, I wanted to choose a couple of different players, but I decided to go with the nicer numbers (And lousy defense)

The Wizard, Walt Williams. Season, 94/95

77 games, 35.6mpg, 16.4ppg (.446 .348 .731), 4.5rpg, 4.1apg, 1.6spg, .82bpg

As I said, I wanted to choose a different couple of players, but with the talent pool deteriorating as fast as it is, I don't think there are many more chances to pick up a guy who goes 16/4/4. I now have a group of players that are pretty effective at putting numbers up on the board. Now I just have to glue them together with the right role players.

The talent pool is almost empty...Let's see where it goes!

Just incase anyone got the notion that my team might be soft, or that there might not be enough grit, I'm gonna take a man who can be mistaken for neither.

07F.jpg

Michael Smith

The guy was mean, strong, and could really rebound and defend. Had a very strong body. He'll be my grit in the starting line-up. Every team needs a mean guy. We just got ours.

I'll take 96/97 Smith. He put u:

81 gms / 31mpg / 6.6ppg (.53 .49) / 9.5rpg (6.3 dr 3.2 or) / 2.4apg / 1.0spg / 0.7bpg / 1.6TO

I don't need him to score in my line-up, just need him to get garbage points. And he'll do that job nicely while rebounding and playing good defense.

Omri Casspi
omricasspi.jpg

1st half of the 2009-2010 Season
I can do that, right?

All right, so Omri hit a little bit of a wall during the end of the season, but he was still a solid scorer, and had 4 double-doubles this year. Enough scoring, decent rebounding, and just enough reckless abandon to work within the flow of my team.

77 gms/10.3ppg/4.5rpg/1.2apg/.7spg/.2bpg

Hmmm... draft talent pool has taken quite a downturn... but there are still a few diamonds in the rough. I hope.. pick upcoming.

For my 4th selection, I decided to draft based on potential rather than actual stats...

Gerald Wallace (2002 - 2003)

The stats weren't impressive blatantly due to the system and team he was on. As a starter, the stats became what they are today. He will fit perfect in this system. He will be my starting SF.

My PicK: For nothing else other than sentimentality, I pick Yogi Stewart. His rookie season. And I looked for 3 seconds for a picture, couldn't find one, so yeah.

I pick Coach: Gary St. Jean and Jawann Oldham season 1987-1988. Write up and stats will come later today.

Yes, I was looking at Oldham too as a shotblocking backup, but I am afraid that I can only allow you to take him if you post a link to his hilarious website (he is apparently Director of Basketball Operations for Dubai or something and touts himself as former NBA superstar Jawann Oldam. :p )

Coach: Garry St. Jean

Not a great coach, but took us to the playoffs, which is more than you can say about the vast majority of our coaches and probably is the last decent one around.

Jawann Oldham
('87-88) -- 54gms 17.5min 5.5pts(.476 .000 .678) 5.6reb 0.6ast 0.2stl 2.0blk 1.2TO

Jawann Oldham is the first NBA superstar to open a basketball training academy in Dubai. It is fantastic being trained by Jawann. People from many nationalities, different level of skills and ages are gathered together to being harmonized with a rhythm of Jawann's extensive experiences and his NBA knowledge treasury.
Seven footer, proved that he can block shots and grab rebounds at a very good rate in limited playing time, so I'll pretend that he would be a double-double guy given starter minutes ;)
You can easily see why he was the best frontcourt partner avaiable for Tisdale.

Sorry if my English is worse than usual :o

My Pick: Jim Jackson, 02-03'

One of my favorite players that season, he still contributed despite his age. He rebounds well enough to where I can start him at SF.

For my 5th pick, I select one of the great fan favorites in Sac-era history as well as a great great character guy...

barry_sac2.jpg

Jon Barry (99-00)

8 ppg, 46 % shooting, 92 FT%, 42% from 3's. 3 rpg and 2 apg. Great shooter and chemistry guy. Will fit in well with a pick and roll offense and the Adelman system.

He is also the leader of my BENCH MOB:

My next pick will be paired in the backcourt with J-Will, as he has played the position quite regularly this past year. He's done a pretty good job of it, too.
Donte Greene

ghy6679kingstimberwolve.jpg

2009-2010 8.5 ppg/3.1 rpg/0.9 apg/ 0.7 bpg

...and he's not afraid to play a little defense.

I need a PG. I'm surprised he's still on the board. I'm taking Larry Drew!

larryDrew2.jpg

Larry Drew

His best season as a King came in 1982-83, when he put up:
75 gp / 35.9 mpg / 20 ppg (.49 .13 .82) / 8.1 apg / 2.8 rpg / 1.7 spg / 3.6 TO

20/8/3/1.5 - I'll take that this late on.

I believe only his 1985-86 season is eligible - this is specifically a Sacramento Kings draft, not a Kansas City Kings or Cincinnati/Rochester Royals draft.

Otherwise, I'll be taking Oscar Robertson with my next pick. ;)

Darn you, I've been found out! Was worth the risk, thought I might get away with it! :p

Regardless, I'll take him. I need a PG and he still had a very solid season in 85/86. He put up 12 ppg / 4.5 apg / 1.7 rpg / 0.9 spg. This all coming off the bench in the majority of games whilst playing just 26 minutes per. As a starter those numbers will increase.

With my pick, the most tragic instance in Sacramento-era history.

90970801.jpg

Ricky Berry.

88/89: 64 games, 11ppg (.450, .789, .406), 3.1rpg, 1.3apg,

Sad, tragic story here...Don't know if I'll do a writeup because it almost seems disrespectful.

Team SF strikes again. :p

You do realize you are Geoff's idol don't you? You should autograph something for him. :)

Alright, I am going to invoke oldness on this one to get myself some extra defense:

Image01.jpg

F Terry Tyler

('85-86) 71gms 23.3min
9.5pts (.455 .000 .750) 4.4reb 1.3ast 0.9stl 1.5blk 1.3TO

A defensive minded dirtywork roleplayer who in his youth had once averaged 2.7blks (as a SF!), he wasn't quite as spry by the time he hit Sacto, but he was still one of the league's best leapers. In fact while researching this pick I discovered something that I had either long forgot, or maybe never even knew: Gerald Wallace was not the first King's SF to represent Sacramento at the All Star Dunk Contest. Terry Tyler, in the Kings' inaugural season in Sacto (the one I am selecting here) was one of eight guys selected to take part, including future King/tiny leprechaun Spud Webb(see pic above). Terry finished dead last. :p But that was appropriate -- could really jump, but his game was meat and potatoes, defend and do the little things, not show off.

Could play both F spots, and gives me a third decent shotblocking presence as well as a mobile option at PF to matchup with more perimeter oriented guys.

P.S. As you can tell from the photo, he was a real looker too, and should help me secure votes from the ladies. :p
