All Time Kings Draft...on a Tropical Island?

With my pick I select:

Brian Grant
brian-grant-autographed-basketball-card-sacramento-kings1_4a0b2a8ce26f86b45004b6c8b366be2d.jpg

Season '95-'96
He can be listed at PF/SF for my team.

Great defender, good rebounder, could score when needed, probably deserved more minutes than he played. Left the team for Portland, which honestly was a bad fit with all of the injuries.

1995-96
14.4 ppg
.507 fg%
.732 FT%
7.0 RPG

See William Blake, more talent available to you at your picks than you might have thought. It all works out. :)

Thanks for posting my 1st round selection, Brick.

Since I had the 10th selection, I knew talent would be slim.. so I had to go in a entirely different direction. Good Coaches were and are rare in the Sacramento Kings history... So rare in fact that we pretty much have had 1 successful Coach in 25 years... And I'm picking him here.

Rick Adelman

rick_adelman1.jpg

Most likely, I'm going to have a bunch of scrappy, hard working guys at best on my roster, and I need someone to give them direction. Adelman can work with no names (09's Rockets,) or with superstars (02 Kings.)

Not to mention Adelman is arguably one of the Top 10 greatest coaches in history.

Adelman is key to making my team a success.

*** Brick - do I need to pick a year for my Coach? Or just a Coach in general?***

I think in general will be fine -- no stats to worry about. In fact...new rule. I'll just post the coach's all-time stats as a Kings coach for each guy. Would have been a thought with the players too -- just average oout al their seasons. But way too much work. Coaches is just addition though.

I like it- the ultimate market scarcity pick. You secured the only coach worth beans, rather than taking a mediocre player. Chances are, whatever player you were going to take will be available with your next pick (or someone comparable), but you got the only coach that really matters...

Yup, Adelman in the first round was a no-brainer. Who do you think is going to get more wins, a rag-tag bunch coached by Rick or a rag-tag bunch anchored by Briant Grant? (No offense venom, not trying to pour salt in your draft order wounds :o).

Hey man :D the dude was a phenomenal player. Hopefully I'm able to build the team I want to build, which I should be if William Blake does as expected and takes the one obvious pick left.

Also, 14 and 7 from your SF who played pretty good defense in that year is nothing to be ashamed of from a late first rounder.

I know, I know. I actually liked Grant a lot. He was high up on my board as well. Unfortunately I ended up with a different PF. :p

I see no obvious pick at this stage and I really had a hard time deciding who to choose.
By the way the PM in Italian was really funny :D

With the 12th pick of 2010 all time kings draft I select:

wayman-tisdale.jpg

Wayman Tisdale
Season 1989-1990
79 Games
22.3 ppg 7.5 rpg .525 fg%

Having two consecutive picks I had the chance to choose both a good inside player and a good outside player keeping the team balanced and the suckitude well distributed. Tisdale was the best post scoring option on the board and probably a top 3 all-time King in that department paired with Thorpe and that guy than no one has ever heard about.
I know 7.5 rebounds aren't much for your starting power forward and Wayman wasn't known for his defense and passing ability but was a very good presence in the locker room and 20+ points in the post are a luxury that only a few teams in this draft can afford, and we all know how much a solid low post presence, albeit only on offense, is important for a successful team.
And with the 13th pick I select:

oilemup.jpg

Reggie Theus
Season 1985-86
82 Games
18.3 ppg 9.6 apg 1.4 spg

Great scorer and great passer, no other point guard in Sacramento Kings history has put up numbers like those.
He is going to form a pretty decent scoring duo with Wayman. I sacrificed defense again because 20ppg scorers like the two above are going to be hard to find by the time that my next pick comes while some defensive scrubs will still be around.

With Wayman Tisdale's pick at the 12th I thought this might be appropriate:

[yt=Tribute to Wayman Tisdale]dGa88SnutEg[/yt]

You are not forgotten.

venom_7 will time out at 12:48 PST. I can think of two reasons for that -- 1) William Blake as a newbie may have forgotten to PM him (and frankly I forgot to update the red arrow on the front page); or 2) venom was supposed to hopping an airplane to fly from Argentina to California (guess this thread was so important he wanted to come on up and make sure in person ;) ). Now I thought that flight would have been two days ago, but maybe I had the timing wrong. In any case, if its #2 he sent me his next pick, so I'll give him until the deadline to come on and make the pick himself in case he wants to change something, and if not at 12:48(ish) I'll make the pick he PM'd me about a couple of days ago when he mentioned his flight.

Maybe. But winners are mentally unstable...or so I keep telling myself. All good teams need a Samurai.

Scot Pollard F/C

2001-2002 for me, thank you very much.
A whopping 6.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg, and nearly 1 block per game. (OK, .9)

With my 2nd pick, I select:

bradwallpow800.jpg

Brad Miller

Year: 2003-2004

Career year for Brad in terms of rebounds (10.3) and blocks (86) not to mention 14 ppg and 4.3 Assists as well. Was named to the All Star Team as well.

One of the 2 best all time Sacramento-era Centers.

Brad played his best under Adelman as well.

I could've gone in a different direction here but felt this was the best available. Not to mention, just like Coaches... after the first 2 or 3, there's a major dropoff in terms of good centers.

With my pick I'm taking another integral part of the most succesful Kings team ever:

63.jpg

Doug Christie

Ultimate glue-guy and role player, this guy was a key part to the Kings success. Could handle the ball very well, pass very well, knew his role, and played excellent defense. He does the little things that winners do. Brings strong leadership to the team, which really helps considering I've already got another leader in Vlade. Probably the best defensive wing the Kings have ever had. Made all-defensive teams 4 times, and was top 5 in the league in SPG for 7 years straight!

I'm taking 01/02 Christie : 81gms / 34.5mpg / 12ppg (.46 .35 .85) / 4.6rpg / 4.2apg / 2spg

Darn you Dime Dropper...That is who I wanted, yet that was who I knew was getting taken.

Got's some thinking to do.

mwahahaha! :p

evil!

Im really wondering who I should take now...The absolute lack of anything decent in the big category wants me to reach, but there are a few other I have my eyes on.

And this draft is going to be stone-cold UGLY come round 4!
Yikes...

With my second pick in the Kings draft, SLAB selects...

Lionel 'L-Train' Simmons. (90/91 season)

simmons_sac3.jpg

90/91 -- G: 79 - Pts: 18.0 Reb: 8.8 - Asst: 4.0 - Stl: 1.4 - Blk: 1.1

Writeup coming.

I think the law of scarcity demands this pick for me:

Lasalle-thompson.jpg

F/C Lasalle "Tank" Thompson
'85-86 80gms 29.7min 12.8pts (.518 .000 .732) 9.6reb 2.1ast 0.9stl 1.4blk 2.3TO

I'll take advantage of my oldness here to take the last of the non-knucklehead high end (by Sacto standards) centers. Strong physical player with huge shoulders and arms (as seen in pic above), great rebounder, and one of the Sacto era's best nicknames. Pretty good physical post defender, perfectly willing to smack you if you came inside, but like too many Kings bigs, too stubby to be a great shotblocker. Just enough offensive game to keep teams honest, and can play some PF too which is nice for flexibility. Between he and Ron I have about as rough and tumble a C/SF tandem as you can get out of Kings history, and if nothing else I am well positioned to win any brawl we happen to get into.

Please remember as we head toward the top end of the snake, that the third round is the round where I decided to reverse the normal order to try to help compensate for the Webber/Mitch etc. factor. So after uolj picks, the snake will bounce back up to William Blake at #12 and head downward again (one time event -- afterwards it will start snaking again as normal). Just something that maybe might make a difference to your decisinmaking in your picks here.

With their 2nd pick and the 20th overall pick in the 2010 All Time Sacramento Kings Draft the “Droids for Clunkers” select...
91770801.jpg

Kenny "The Jet" Smith, PG, 6' 3'', 170
Season: 1988-89. 81gms 38.8min 17.3pts (.462 .359 .737) 2.8reb 7.7ast 1.3stl 0.1blk 3.1TO
For the younger fans amongst us – the guy in the picture is indeed the guy from TNT…with hair!

Once you have got your first player picked you need to start working around it. And during this draft you need to do it quickly. So I was on a hunt for a distributor, and say what you want – this guy could pass the ball almost as good as anybody (sadly J-Will was not available). 7.7 APG. I will take that every day and twice on Sunday. Best guy we had this year averaged 5.8 APG (but we all hope he will get much better in the years to come…). Obviously “the half empty glass” guy can point out the “defensively challenged” issue, and also the fact that his stats were achieved during yet another debacle year for the Kings (but nowhere as bad as 2008-9…). Still let me remain positive: Kenny was actually one of a few good players in a bad team. He proved it later on (and this is where I get another nice bonus) when he paired again with Mr. Thorpe, when they won the title in the mid 90’s (Kenny actually has 2 rings), playing for the Rockets, and he was no “towel waver” material!
All in all, a perfect fit for my anchor player so I am as happy as a clam.

I've got a superstar to shoot the rock, now I need a player who can clean the glass. This guy does windows :). With my 2nd pick, I select:

Jason Thompson 6'11" F/C
2009-2010 - 75g 31.4mpg 12.5 ppg (.472 .100 .715) 8.5 rpg 1.7 apg .6 spg 1.0 bpg 1.85 TO/g

80944_Lakers_Kings__Basketball.jpg

Sure he's a bit foul prone and can be inconsistent with his offense, but he always goes after it with relentless tenacity. He consistently hits the mid-range spot shot, is developing his jump hook, and can throw it down in transition. Defensively he gets a block a game, and holds the other team to one shot with his dominance on the defensive glass.

Jason is one of the leaders of this young Kings team. His charisma is infectious and he's very active in the community. He has the size, athleticism, and skill to play 3 positions, and will man the middle, block some shots, and give our team 3+ extra possessions due to offensive boards. Jason is a very versatile, solid player.

I reallllly wanted Christie. Perfect guy to slide next to Evans. Still, throwing this guy out there every night should work out fine. With my second pick, I'll go ahead and take Bobby Jackson 2002-2003
bobby_jackson.jpg

28.4 MPG
15.2 PPG
3.1 APG
.464 FG%
.379 3P%
3.7 RPG
1.2 SPG

Bobby Jackson. Excellent chemistry guy, very good scorer, good shooter, decent passer, and a solid defender. I considered Udrih here, but I feel like we all already know what a Udrih/Evans tandem can do. On top of that, Jackson is a much better defender. Very quick in his prime, and with Jackson and Evans together .. thats actually an above average defensive pair at the 1/2.

As easy as my first round pick was, that's how hard this one was. No matter who I decided to pick, it always seemed to be the wrong guy. In the end I had to quit vacillating, and I decided that from the choices available my best option was a center who played good minutes and could rebound. Impersonating a member of law enforcement is only a bonus.

olden-polynice.jpg

Yep, Olden Polynice.

I'm going to take Olden's '94-'95 season because it was his year with the Kings that he was most offensively effective, and it was by far his best season for his advanced stats. Olden brings legitimate size and reasonable (though by no means great) defense down low.

Code:
Season G GS MP FG% FT% REB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS ORtg DRtg OWS DWS WS WS/48
1994-95 81 81 31.3 .544 .639 9.0 0.8 0.6 0.6 1.4 2.9 10.8 114 106 3.3 3.4 6.7 0.126

Arrrrrgggg!!!!

I thought for sure seeing as he is so disdained by most he would be my center come next round...

I have been foiled more than once already within a few rounds!
:p

You just said Arrrrrgggg!!!! about missing out on having Olden Polynice be your center.

This draft is evil.

And I thought it up.
