All I Want is Defense

Malone had us playing hard and had us playing defense. Yes, there were some glitches along the way in the second year in that short span but they worked at it and played the best defense for any stretch of games in the last 10 years. By the way, the roster that PDA put together for Malone had about zero defensive players. And credit should go to Malone for challenging Cousins to become a better defensive player.

In the Sac Bee there was an article in the NBA roundup talking about how Isaiah Thomas has become a respectable defensive player. IT gave credit to Brad Steven' defensive philosophy and schemes.

There you go. If Coach Steven's can help turn IT into a good defender, then what the hell George?

Brad Stevens is an elite coach, but a very risky signing by Ainge. Karl was supposed to be a low risk signing with a low potential reward. We did sign him, because he always was able to get his teams to the playoffs, was a coach that demanded respect, because he won wherever he went.
And we felt, that we didn't have time to built something new. Problem was impatience and we are making the same mistake now, when we fire Karl.
We signed him, Vlade decided to stick with him during the offseason, now we have to find a way to figure things out.
I don't think Karl is the cause for ALL of our problems. He is part of it as much as every player.

At some point, we have to turn things. If we mess up another season Karl is 100% gone. But when this happens, our problems won't end.
We have to keep hin mind, that we need competence in the FO to find a coach, that fits and has the ability to move the franchise forward.
As much as it hurts, I have to say, that its likely, that Ainge is competent enough to find someone like Brad Stevens, a young college coach, that fits the franchise and the current playstyle in the league.
I don't think Vlade can do the same. I would expect Vlade so sign someone like Calipari, because he has a relation to DMC. But from my point of view, that wouldn't be the right way going forward.
Thibs would be an obvious choice, that every basketball fan could make. You don't need any GM skills to do this.
But is Thibs the right coach?
From my point of view Thibs had trouble to adapt to a new playstyle. He had trouble to trust younger players. He is mediocre, when it comes to offense.
It may be debateable, that Thibs is a better choice than Karl, but I'm not sure about that.
But the next coaching choice of this franchise needs to be a 100% fit, when we get rid of Karl.
And there are serious concerns with Thibs.

Can't believe the royals traded Robertson away...totally doomed this team. Cousy totally used him wrong and all we got back was Robinson and Flynn. Hi I'm living in the past kings fan and I am hoping Peja will suit up next game. Move on from Malone please.

Funny that as a means to justify that George Karl knows defense you bring up Gary Payton.....who is from the past. Your going back decades to prove a point that Karl knows defense....hahahaha. Deal in the present. Karl is a coaching fail at this point. Malone>Karl for this franchise

Young Karl knew fire and balls. I remember seeing videos of his locker room speeches in Denver, and he was very inspiring - I could not imagine a lazy person or a sissy feeling happy in his system.

So I figured he was going to bring that to Sacramento. Never mind the x's and o's.... I just ASSUMED he would adapt to his personnel where that was concerned (else how could he have won so many games).

But it was the fire, balls, machismo... I believed we were going to get $5M worth of THAT per year. And for that, I feel ripped off by the mute shoulder shrugging old man on our bench.

And that's a little of what Malone brought....fire. This version of Karl is disappointing.

No Karl is here not in the past. He comes as a coach with his whole resume. Malone is not here and won't be coming back so whether he would be better here is senseless to keep bringing up.

How do you feel about the defense this team is playing right now?

I thought he was still capable and willing to do this, but I guess not....

Moute sure would have been a nice piece. We had him...and I still don't know if we got the actual story of what happened. Seemed strange how it unfolded. Anyway, the Clippers are using him in spots right now

I'm glad in most ways. That was precisely the man I feared. He and Cousins would have had a fistfight by noon of the first practice.

But of course now the question emerges of how much coach is left after you remove the jerk from the coach.

The question to me is that jerk really gone? I kinda feel he stubbornly wants to run a system he knows Cuz doesnt fit in. Pushed to trade Cuz and got his hand slapped, and is now just metaphorically taking his ball and going home by mailing in the coaching job, collecting a check and inching towards his wins record.

Ive seen no fire, no in game or mid season adjustments. Its like he polished off his nuggets books changed the names to kings players and is coasting through the season on autopilot.

With the talent we have he might just be able to. But this doesnt seem lime much of a coaching job so far, just muscle memory.

That's my biggest complaint. George Karl isn't hungry. He wants to secure his legacy but he's already going to be in the Hall of Fame. If you could combine his knowledge with the drive of some of these y0unger coaches coming into the NBA, we'd really have something. And if wishes were horses...

I have watched every minute of every game except the hornets game. Something has become extremely apparent. We all know the defense switches, usually unnecessarily. Karl is looking to disrupt the offense, but it get's us caught with mismatches. What has become apparent is that they opposing teams game plan is to move the ball around getting thee switches looking for 3's. We have to be one of the highest teams in the league in having 3 point attempts against. Other coaches are seeing this and scheming for it, why can't we figure it out on our end?

We are THE highest in the league in 3pt attempts against us. Sacramento is #1 in opponent 3pt attempts per game at 28.6 3's per. We're in the middle of the pack as far as opponent 3pt percentage goes, but we're ranked #2 in opposing teams made 3pt shots (as in, only 1 team has allowed opponents to make more 3pt shots than us). Not good....

I remember how so many on here blamed IT for holding the team back, even more could not wait for him to be traded. Now that he is gone, the Kings still suck! and probably will continue to suck for a very long time. This team needs an entire culture change, starting with DC. He lacks the leadership and decision making this team needs, we can certainly become a winning team with DC, but not with him as the leader on the floor. East is much better than the West so far this year, and IT continues to play well. I almost forgot, we need a new coach!

You broke your self-imposed exile from posting for that? Hrm...

Not only that, we allow the highest eFG%. So, it makes sense this team should slow the pace and play smash basketball up front rather than playing at the league's highest pace and trying to compete with better shooting teams.
