Actually I have always wondered a bit about this as the same rules don't apply to 2nd rounders as they do to 1st rounders. Can anyone explain? I don't mind being educated.

The QO is also listed on shamsports.com, which is my go-to salary site (he's got a source in the league office, I'm led to understand, so he gets the data direct off the contracts) but it doesn't update super quickly.

I'm curious how Outlaw is killing us every night. He's averaging 7.3 MPG while scoring 5.7 PPG on 46.2% shooting overall, and shooting 50% from the three. He's also been defending very well. On the contrary, I'd say the Outlaw has been one of the bright spots, however small!

Yes in this small window he has been playing okay but referring to BOTH sf's body of work as a whole with us as well as well as looking into players who could be part of a bigger picture with us.

Don't want neither. Shved forgot how to shoot, too weak to defend SG, too slow to defend PG.
Dwill doesn't have the skills to play 3. Or the size to play 4. And is downright ugly on defense at times.
We need difference makers. Not 2 guys with a ton of questions marks.

If Chad Ford said something, the exact opposite is probably going to happen.
He also said that he thinks we could trade "Jason Williams" for him. I suppose he meant "Jason Thompson" but that sort of typo doesn't really enhance my opinion of his reporting.
That said, has Derrick Williams been a complete disaster as a SF? I haven't watched enough T'Wolves to know if he's even being used there, or if he's a PF all the way. Positional fit was always a question with him but at this point I'm obviously interested if there's a chance to take a flyer on a SF as long as there's at least some chance it will pan out.

He's been a disaster at the 4, but played extremely well at the 3 when given minutes.

I am mildly interested in Derrick Williams just because of who he is. He's only 22. We've seen guys figure it out on their third or fourth stop. He needs playing time, and I think he'd get it here.
Look at Jordan Hill. Anyone could have had that guy a few years ago and now he's starting to show everyone he can play. He's salvageable.

Talent-wise, Minny would be the winner of a JT-Williams swap.
I'm a big Derrick Williams fan (much thanks to his ownership of Duke in the tournament + Wildcat alum), but his skills have absolutely not translated to the NBA for whatever reason. I wasn't expecting him to be an All-Star, but at the very least, a 15-pt/8-rebound PF with 3-pt range and great finishing skills. Passing and shot-blocking were never going to be his strong suit - but unfortunately, he has yet develop a single strong suit: his FG, FTA and 3-pt % stinks, rebounding is below-average, and he barely registers anything in the Assist/Steal/Block column. He's had plenty of opportunities with Love's injuries, has been surrounded by arguably the best passer in the league, and is coached by one of the best offensive coaches of our time...I'm having extreme doubts that he'll ever figure it out.
Now the question is: how can he help this team? Well, he'll free us from a couple years of JT's salary, which considering Thompson's production and the need for size league-wide, is fair value. He'll help us space the floor - but how much better is he than Patterson? Patterson has actually shown greater efficiency in his career vs. Williams - so not sure he's an upgrade. Overall, I'm not sure what our front office sees in this other than offloading JT's salary...I think we can do better. Unless they're pulling for Minny to break their playoff slump, that is...

I'd certainly do Hayes for D. Williams. He might just need a fresh start, and at worse, we'd be doing a one year tryout. Next year, and what remains of this season. Hayes is the same, next season and what remains of this season. Both are making around the same amount of money. So to me, its not much of a gamble. If we don't like what we see, we don't pick up his option following next season. It would leave us shorthanded at the center position, but N'Diaye would get a lot of work, and who knows, he turn out to be a serviceable backup center.
I wouldn't trade JT. He's too valuable since he can play both frontcourt spots. And by the way, I'd certainly try Williams at the SF position. As stated, he's still young, a good athlete, and he used to have decent shooting skills. Hayes has no future here, and who knows, Williams might. When we propose a trade, we need to put ourselves in the other team's shoes and see what they need. Last year Minnesota was looking for a long athletic shot blocking backup big man who could run the break and had to be able to complement Kevin Love on the defensive end in spot minutes. They drafted Gorgui Dieng. What are they going to do with Chuck Hayes?
I really don't get the attachment some people have for JT. To me he's symptomatic of everything wrong with Petrie's rosters. He's proven over and over again that he's not reliable as a starter which makes him an expensive luxury for a last-place team. If you can swap him out for young talent, you're really not losing all that much -- some size and guaranteed production maybe, but in exchange you get cap space and potential; a fresh look and help at a position where we have less depth.
What's more, we cannot afford to pay both JT and Landry the full mid-level for the next four years. Not while we're losing games in bunches and can't afford the transcendent talent we need to turn it around. We should be doing everything possible to get out from under one of those contracts. Considering the new regime brought in Landry, I think the writing is already on the wall for Thompson's future in Sacramento. An unproven player with one year left on his rookie deal is basically all you can expect to get back for JT anyway, and at least then you're giving yourself a chance at coming out ahead on the talent end, or at the very least opening up cap space for a key free agent.

I have to agree. I've been rooting for JT to take the next step, but he's essentially been the same player since he was drafted. Flashes of a jumpshot, post game, passing, handling, and shotblocking. As time has gone by, highs not as high, lows not as low.
He could use a change of scenery, and while I prefer JT to Carl, it's obvious which one is more likely in the FO plans. With 3 rotation PF's + Hayes on the roster, the team can afford to gamble.

JT doesn't do anything well. At least Landry excels at something: high percentage post scoring.
