Adelman Returns

Life is too short for petty crap.

The Maloofs acted petty. If it wasn't for Adelman we wouldn't have enjoyed so much success.

They need to grow up, but it's too late now. You can't acknowledge the most successful tenure in Sacramento franchise history? Can't show up for the game? Can't shake hands? No video tribute? No pregame camera shots of Adelman with Miller and the gang? WEAK.

Here's an idea... let's pretend Rick Adelman never existed. Tell Grant and Jerry to keep the Adelman talk at a minimum and pee off the fan base.

Shaq and Kobe put the past aside for a moment. Why couldn't the Maloofs?

There is no excuse whatsoever. Please do not make any excuses for these two.

Reggie showed class in talking to Rick before the game. I wouldn't be surprised if he was fined for it.

Well they did have a charity event or fundraiser in Hawaii didn't someone say so should they fly down say hey thanks for everything and shake his hand just so no one thinks there is bad blood?

Now if they were just at home and avoiding the game so they didn't have to run into him then that's another story.

I don't know, I don't think it's a big deal.

He didn't turn around the Kings immediately, either. Give him and the team some time.

He did not start out with Yao and Tmac in Sac either.

*note: I loved RA while he was here and would have signed him to another deal had I been the owner. Having said that, he now plays for the opposing team so I wish him many losses.

The censoring of Rick Adelman

There was a clear directive sent to all in-house media to minimize speaking about Adelman as anything but the opposing coach (I touched on it in today's game story). No acknowledgement of his eight seasons of success, no pregame interviews on TV or radio to discuss the old days, and certainly no Maloofs on hand (they gave their seats away for this one).

They could really use a good PG, tho.

Oh c'mon, what is wrong with the dynamic duo of james and alston? ;)

In all seriousness, while they do have PG issues I am going to wait to break-out my violin when they have Tmac and Yao.

....they could have picked-up Beno......oops - too late.

Adelman nowhere in sight

Although Sam Amick mentioned it in his article, I wanted to point out another bit of lameness as well: they deliberately didn't show Adelman at all during the game. None of the usual close-ups during tense moments, no shots of his face while he was talking with players or refs, nothing. I hadn't really realized it until I read it in Amick's note, but if you watch the game, it's true.

A couple of immature spoiled brats is what we have here.

This was mentioned in both the game discussion threads and the PBP, I believe. Regardless, the bottom line is that our owners chose, probably on some pretty lame advice, to take the low road. The fans in attendance at Arco spoke much louder, however, and it's been reported in several different spots that Rick Adelman truly appreciated the ovation.

Well, the Rockets did win 55 games last year so there shouldn't be much for any coach to have to "turn around".

I said this when he was hired that it's a difficult spot for him(sort of like what happened with Norv Turner in San Diego). Houston has been a good team and won 55 games last year and they still et Van Gundy go and hired Adelman who they felt would take them to the next level. If he doesn't get that many wins again it will be perceived as a failure.

Fallacious reasoning. Adelman wasn't hired to get the Rockets to sixty wins. He was hired to do the one thing that Van Gundy failed to do: get the Rockets out of the first round. If he has them playing their best ball when the playoffs come around, Rockets fans will overlook any difference in win total.

If Houston gets to the second round, Adelman will be seen virtually unanimously as a success, regardless of whether the Rockets win fifty-eight, fifty-five, or forty-nine.

I don't think the Maloofs were slighting RA, just avoiding an awkward situation. Like the official presidential congratulations of the Nobel Peace Prize this year. It was just weird seeing those people in the oval office together, and it is similarly so with Adelman and the Maloofs in Arco.

What about Webber? They dimmed lights for him, and played hmi a song..

Adelman got dissed.. I was watchin waiting to hear the standing ovation, but sure enough I saw a that ugly Wolco printer guy, than Grant mentioning how they gave him an ovation when they returned to the game. I was pretty pissed. Glad I got to see it on youtube. Thanks to whoever did that.

They don't have the score 1st PG with a nice J Adelman's teams need(Bibby/Porter)

Actually the Rockets do. Mike James is a perfect fit for that type. He just doesn't start and as we all know Rick doesn't like changing his starting lineup or rotation even when it is obviously needed. The Rockets problem is they don't have good cutters for that offense and that Yao at the high post is less effective than Yao down low.

They can't really run the Princeton as they are now. Most people say they need a passing point guard and that means something other than the Princeton O.

Mike James isn't a scoring PG, he's a selfish one. That's the problem there -- you can't run an offense with him, because he will chuck it up every time the ball hits his hands. Hence the 6th man role.

Stevie is of course an idiot. And Rafer just sucks but at elast tries to set people up sometimes. Its an ugly combo. One of those where if you add up all the players you go "ooh, good depth", but in reality it means "ooh, no starter". They really still need to make a move. Ironically, Beno really would have been a perfect fit there, but they already had too many bodies/contracts and so finders keepers.

Uh Mike James is a shooter/scoring PG, selfish too, but the passes/assists in that offense don't come from the guards.
