LOL saw adelman pix in the front page of espn... Hope he really gets fired. But if he does, who will replace him....

It will be a blessing once RA is fired I'm so sick of his coaching it's getting old already we need a new fresh coach RA is done.

I wouldn't mind seeing elston turner take over and then get Mitch Richmond to coach. No. how about we get terry porter back, i loved it when he got up and started arguing with a portland player in the middle of a game cuz he said something to him. THat would be funny if that player was bonzi wells.

Yeah, the Adelman era has sure been a disappointment, what with the winning and exciting teams and all. Clearly if he can't coach this mediocre team he should be fired.

You're giving this team a lot of credit.

;)

I don't see the Maloofs getting rid of Adelman during the time that Bonzi and Peja are injured. Having to sub 2 guys from the worst bench in the league into the starting lineup will be the reason why we continue to flounder rather than anything Adelman does.

You know how it goes, coach never wins. The team wins, the players are great, the team loses, the coach sucks.

I know there are people that have always hated Adelman. I'm not one of them. I do think it is probably time for the team to move on but I don't see the point in making a midseason replacement unless we want to write off the season - which isn't to say that a coaching change couldn't turn the season around, but in all likelihood we're not going to get a coach that will make us championship contenders either. And if the new coach does turn the season around we'll feel compelled to keep him around even if better coaches are available.

I'd like to see us make a decision on the direction we're headed with any major roster moves before bringing in a new coach. Once we've determined our new core we can better pick the right man for the job and then fill in the holes.

Lord knows I've vented my frustration with RA on more than one occasion. But now would not be a good time to change, if we change at all. I think it's a foregone conclusion that there's not enough talent on this team for a coach to do much with. Now, if there was a lot of talent and we still were floundering then, yeh, make a change. But what's needed is a change in players and RA just might be the best coach to have for some of the players we may end up with.

I agree. I hate the way adleman always played favorites. I want a refreshing coach. But I admit I think petries made some total a$s signings this year. Bonzi and shareef were okay but we got no bench. Petrie is supposed to estimate that players will be good. That's his job. He estimated wrong. I can't blame adleman our terrible bench play.

Man Adelman has not won a championship in 8 years about time he needs to get fired.
That means all coaches are terrible except PJ, Larry and Pop? So who are we going to get that will clearly be an improvement over RA? Personally, I can't help but think that RA can't wait to get out of Sac. Plenty of teams will want him. Honestly, I think RA deserves better than what he's gotten this year, so far.

Here is the complete Insider Article.......

Only the coldest of cold-hearted NBA owners would fire a coach on Christmas Eve, which is why it never happens.

Sure, Tim Floyd left the Chicago Bulls on that very day four years ago, but that was a resignation -- Floyd gave himself an early Christmas present by ending his misery after compiling a 49-190 record over three-plus seasons.

Last year, Jeff Bzdelik lost his job in Denver three days after Christmas, and in 2001, Dan Issel was fired by the Nuggets just one day after Christmas. Also, Lon Kruger lost his job in Atlanta on Dec. 26, 2002, so there's definitely a trend at work here.

This has been a relatively tranquil season in terms of coaching changes, especially compared to last season, when nine teams (Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, L.A. Lakers, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Knicks, Magic, Trail Blazers) made midseason changes. Nobody has been fired, and only one coach -- Miami's Stan Van Gundy -- has resigned.

But remember, at this point a year ago, only one team -- the Grizzlies -- had changed head coaches. Lenny Wilkens lost his job in January, Flip Saunders and Rudy Tomjanovich were goners in February, and Don Nelson, Paul Silas, Johnny Davis and Maurice Cheeks all bit the dust in March.
In other words, plenty of time remains for someone to get the ax. Who will be the first to go? Insider handicaps the strongest contenders:

Adelman

Rick Adelman, Sacramento Kings. Odds of being the next coach fired: 2-1
The Kings seemed to be turning things around when Bonzi Wells' buzzer-beater gave them their third straight win Dec. 13, but that victory was followed by three straight losses to Detroit, San Antonio and Charlotte.
If Thursday night's game against Dallas ends in a loss, too, we can safely put the Dec. 26 home game against Portland in the "must-win" category for Adelman, a lame duck in the final year of his contract. The Kings have already lost seven times in Sacramento, which used to be the toughest place in the NBA for opponents to win. Geoff Petrie's friendship with Adelman might have bought him some time, but the Maloof brothers are running out of patience.
Who would replace Adelman? Just a hunch, but Don Nelson has a relationship with the Maloofs and even bought a condo from them in Las Vegas.

Weiss

Bob Weiss, Seattle SuperSonics. Odds: 3-1
The Sonics were 19-5 and the surprise of the league at Christmastime a year ago, and now they're 11-13 with the league's most porous defense. The Sonics also rank last in rebounding, and they've already had three three-game losing streaks, matching last season's total.
Asked about Weiss' job status a week ago, general manager Rick Sund was not exactly oozing warmth.
"You support your coach and you work with your coach at all times until he is no longer your coach. You don't put a timetable on it."
After home games against Dallas on Friday and Boston on Dec. 26, the Sonics will play seven of their next eight on the road. The most winnable game in that stretch is at New York Jan. 8, two nights after playing at Detroit. Could Jan. 7 be Weiss' day of doom?

Mitchell

Sam Mitchell, Toronto Raptors. Odds: 20-1
Mitchell's situation improved in the past couple of days, first when CEO Richard Peddie said he was against making midseason changes (Translation: They'll probably fire Mitchell and GM Rob Babcock after the season), and then with the Raptors' victory at Houston in which they limited Tracy McGrady to seven points. The Raps play four of their next five on the road, where they're 5-8. At home, they're a miserable 1-12.

Woodson

Mike Woodson, Atlanta Hawks. Odds: 30-1
Ever since Woodson received a strong vote of confidence from general manager Billy Knight, things have taken a turn for the better, including quality wins over Boston, San Antonio, Cleveland and Denver. Hard to ever say the Hawks have an easy upcoming schedule, but nine of their first 10 post-Christmas opponents have losing records.

Sloan

Jerry Sloan, Utah Jazz. Odds: 45-1
Any owner crazy enough to walk across the court and berate his team during a huddle (as Jazz owner Larry Miller did Nov. 14 in a home loss to the Knicks) might just be unstable enough to fire a coach now in his 18th season with Utah. For two years running, there has been an undercurrent of frustration in the organization with Sloan's player rotations.
Others:
Eddie Jordan, Washington Wizards. Odds: 50-1
The Seattle of the East in terms of taking a big step backward after a surprisingly good year. Think they miss Larry Hughes?
Jeff Van Gundy, Houston Rockets. Odds: 75-1
Hey, Van Gundys don't get fired, they resign. Yao Ming's toe surgery buys some more time for Jeff, whose club is 13th in the 15-team West.
Bernie Bickerstaff, Charlotte Bobcats. Odds: 200-1
Look, he's got Kevin Burleson, Alan Anderson and Bernard Robinson on his roster, and Robinson sometimes starts.
Larry Brown, New York Knicks. Odds: 1,000-1
It's now seven straight losses for Brown, who is due to rip Isiah Thomas' roster any minute now.
Chris Sheridan, a national NBA reporter for the past decade, covers the league for ESPN Insider. To e-mail Chris, click here.

There are a couple disturbing things about the Adelman paragraph above: the Maloofs thought this team would be a contender? Really? And Don Freaking Nelson is a top candidate? Of course, if the answer to the first question is yes, I suppose hiring Don Nelson would make sense. They assembled a roster that could concievably score 115 points a game, and who better to produce those results than Nelson? Never mind that that approach has never won a championship. Cuban seems to have learned his lesson, what's taking the Maloofs so long?

Also, if Larry Miller does fire Sloan, the Maloofs should feel free to hire him instead of, oh, anybody else. Sloan is the one non-champion coach I would fully endorse replacing Adelman. Other than Sloan, what's the point?

I say we try to get larry brown, he seem to hate the knicks anyways... Y not put a big amount of money for him, and withdraw all the money from RA's bank account.. he's not worthit ne'more. Larry can improve r defense, but if we get porter or nelson, wer back to offense.... and we all know that offense cnt win the NBA championship

Um? Larry Borwn is currently mployed. And his coaching genius is producing maybe the worst team in the NBA, which wil be followed shortly by him starting to complain and publicly badmouth the team and organization. His schtick is old. So is he. And the Knicks are likely his last job. Thank god.

Ditto.

Latest chatwrap (I'm Gordon):

Gordon (Houston, TX): Chris, so few projected Sacramento failing so miserably with this lineup. How long until Sacramento makes a change? Will it be coaching or player?

Chris Sheridan: (12:25 PM ET ) As I mentioned in yesrerday's uplifting story about Who's the Next Coach Fired, Monday night's Portland-Sacramento game is shaping up as a must-win game for Rick Adelman. Not sure whether the absence of Peja and Bonzi will buy Rick some time, but Lame Duck Season opens the Night After Christmas. As for the Kings' players, the one guy I hear they're trying hardest to move is Kenny Thomas.

We can't get anything we need at the moment

That's for sure. Look, we have traded DOWN with every single roster move the team has made over the last two seasons, except perhaps for Bonzi. I put him on an almost even level with Christie, and certainly better than Mobley. I won't go into the bench issue other than to say we have traded away a terrific bench for one of the worst in the league. Miller is no replacement for Vlade. SAR does not come close to the value of a healthy Webber. Well, I have grown to like Corliss' game as he at least has some fight in him. Many teams in the West have gotten better. The Kings and the Lakers have not done so well. Not Coach's fault. I think he's frustrated with the Maloofs and with Petrie.

Lakers have probably the best player in the NBA, and a championship coach, and they have no chance ti win it all, at least this year. I say we keep Rick and give him some decent materia to work with.

Except that Adleman signed off on this roster. He approved each and every player.

well y'all know how it is with coaches THEY ARE OFTEN CRITICIZED FOR THE LOSSES AND SELDOM GET CREDIT FOR THE WINS.... nothing's change..

Well...according to the front office. And what exactly would Rick say anyway? I really don't like these guys? Rick has thrown out interesting little....flavors to some of his comments in the last couple of years that suggest he at least could see some of the problems coming. Always reminding everybody that the team had changed, that expectations should change too. That there were no guarantees anymore. Geoff and he are friends, but he's still just the coach, and a lame duck coach this year as well. No way he would make much of a fuss unless Geof went out and got a player Rick explicitly did not like.
