Accord reached!!!

I'm glad to hear something has been hammered out. I'm disappointed that Sac city/county are going to shoulder all the tax burden. Outlying counties, including mine, really should have been minor stakeholders and supporters in this deal. I'm interested to read the details of the plan and see what kind of media blitz is executed on its behalf. I expect there will be some pretty solid resistance to the plan and tax increase, and a tough uphill battle for passage.

Hang on, this is gonna be an interesting ride.
Just go buy something in Sac County to help the cause....it's a Sales tax after all.

I actually think this will win in a landslide......

Volcano's in Amador right? Not sure just remember from a trip that way once...

Tax increase will be tough to get over. Thats just a plain fact but if the facts are laid out there I think enough people would say okay I can support that. X amount is going to.. x to this x to that x to the arena which is also going to create X in additional tax revenues, growth etc...

It's such an easy topic to start bashing either side but that will get us no arena ever. Need some numbers and facts and I think those will come shortly.

Yep, Amador.

I get that there are only so many ways to raise the funds. Sales tax increase is as decent as any, and is based on county boundaries. One of the question in Sac will be... is the tax equitable for everyone given that 50% of the proceeds will go for the arena that may not be used by everyone? What detractors will probably ignore is the huge revenue generating engine the arena and surrounding, supporting business will be.

I'm hoping against hope this thing passes somehow. It will be a shame if it doesn't!

How could anyone here possibly know?
Perhaps it might have been mentioned in the news conference I didn't see?

It was mentioned on news 10. So, not being that news10 didn't misrepresent that fact, I asked if anyone else here had heard anything about it.

It's just a question for crying out loud.

You could easily have just said "I don't know" or refrained from jumping on me about it.

Ah, sarcasm.

When I asked for confirmation, the facts had already been hastily told on news 10 but were not yet posted here. I merely wanted to make sure I heard correctly.

My thought was that someone else had a link or had seen something on TV that I had missed. And happily, someone was able to provide me with a link to the information I sought.

Since there obviously were ways people could know, the "Well how could anyone here know" response seemed a bit of unnecessary snark.

I-5 goes over the American River, where the American and Sacramento Rivers meet, and is parallel with the Sacramento River. Unless you go northbound from Downtown then I-5 turns westward to the airport, crossing the Sac River and continues west into Yolo County and Woodland.

I didn't appreciate the scornful "Well how would we know" response.
It wasn't scornful. You're way too defensive. It was merely questioning how anyone here, who was relying on the same information you had heard, could know anything different.

We are not going to do this on the board again. If you want to have a pissing contest, send me a PM.

This issue is much more important that your fragile ego.

I've had my say and you've had yours. I'm going to ask another moderator to simply delete anything either of us says to the other in the future. That way, there can be no accusations of censorship.

Peace...out.

EDIT: And thanks for editing your post as I was replying.

Hey, this just in from News 10! If the arena passes the first event that will be held there features a steel-caged death match between Wert and VF21.....IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME!

Perhaps because I'm not omnipotent and realized that folks could have seen something I didn't.

And it turns out, someone did have the information I was asking for, so it's clear that the question wasn't in vain.

Thanks for not insulting me with that "You're way too defensive" crack.

Nah, you'll just ignore them as you have in the past.

It's great to know that you would never continue to insult me by drawing attention to my "fragile ego".

It's not accusation. It's fact. You've deleted stuff from me (and interestingly yourself) in this very thread. And I'm guessing a few people in this heavily trafficked thread saw those posts before you sent them off to the cornfield, so no use denying it. :)

All this could have easily been avoided if you could have found it in yourself to refrain from unnecessarily (and rudely) chiding me in this thread for simply asking an innocuous question.

I'm available by PM if you want to chide me privately. :)

--And now we all wait to see if this post gets a good solid bonk from the censors hammer.

I'll be really interested to see how the marketing for this this goes.

I don't know if having the maloofs be visible in the marketing is a plus or minus.

Do you guys think it has a chance in the ballot?
I'm not sure if this has a chance or not, however, I think I'm going to hold my excitement until it does pass on the November ballot. I just don't understand why everyone is excited. Yes, its good news that they finally reached an agreement, but I'm just not so sure how if it will be good enough to pass.

What type of person votes against this kind of thing?

I'm just curious.

Is it the 30 dollars a year?

Is it buildings going up in an empty railyard that will cause traffic?

Is it an EFF YOU to sports fans, regardless of the other 600 million to the communities?

Any tax increase proposal has almost no chance of passing by referendum in California. The Sacramento community is very liberal and not oriented towards professional sports. Too macho. That said, I think we have a chance. There are a lot of Kings fans in Sacramento, and probably a lot of casual, part-time (special hyped games), Kings fans. If Kings fans mobilize all their friends and relatives to actually vote on this issue, I really believe it can be done.

Voting participation in off-year elections is typically low around here. That give focused and organized zealots an advantage. Basically, we would have a 2:1 advantage if our people vote. If 95 percent of all serious and casual Kings fans actually voted, and voted affirmatively, we could have an new arena. It is really that simple.

I think this will require focus, long-term focus and effort.

This Arena Forum needs to be linked to a popular thread in the Kings Forum to pick up strays.

Easy answer nebs. Listen to the radio and you will get the answer to that.

This is a very very politically charged area. Look at the contrast of areas between Davis and Woodland a few miles apart. Sacramento is the same way lets say Carmicheal & North Highlands

I think this has nothing to do with sports or people that hate sports. There is a general attitude in CA and espeically here that life will continue on. If your not a Kings fan this is were the education comes in. How can you expect a non-kings fan to support this right now? Well before, now that numbers will come out I think you will see popular opinion shift.

Rock- Agreed but the excitement is the fact this is actually going to happen now. Up until now nobody could proceed, "save our kings" could not proceed with any movement.

Man, that's about the 5th poor generalization about liberals I've seen in the past few days. Plus, aren't liberals usually more open to tax increases?

I have a feeling that the opinion will be increasingly more positive now but I still want hear the argument why this is a bad thing. I think I'm listening to the wrong radio stations. ;)

Why are people excited?

Perhaps because - for the first time - we've seen something tangible and positive come out of this whole arena issue.

I was excited about the Kings coming to Sacramento before they ever got on a plane, too. It's kind of the same.

It's the people who are excited right now that will do the most to make sure this proposal passes.

The Arena forum is directly linked from the SaveOurKings.com site. The New Arena forum is listed prominently on the Index. If people can't find it, I submit they really aren't looking very hard.

I'm very happy they've finally reached an agreement but as an outsider, do you guys think it will pass? I know you can't read minds, but I'd be interested in opinions.
