GoSACtown - Yes, you can. You can move to Sacramento.

;)

Seriously? While the vote itself is confined to Sacramento County residents, you can certainly talk to anyone you know who is a Sac Co. resident and support this proposal.

Bball - It will be built at the railyards.

People will vote on election day, which is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in Nov. That will be Nov. 7, 2006.

im in Stockton, i cant do anything huh?
It was buried in my first post, but I'm willing to volunteer to work on the campaign, if they'll let someone from Yuba city do that.

Something to keep in mind about sales tax

I think people need to stop and think about how much they actually spend on sales taxable items and where most of their income goes. Typical big ticket items for any household:

mortgage/rent
car payment/transportation
insurance
food
utilities
medical care/prescriptions

Not one of those items will be affected by this tax increase. How much do most people have left to spend after those items?

(My pet peeve is paying sales tax on an item I buy from a secondhand store. Ever wonder how many times some of those items may have been taxed?)

It's funny because when you look on SacBee.com you see the article. I always scroll all the way down to see the comments and all I see are the same users with their negative ideas.

Anyone feel like getting together groups of people to stand in front of grocery stores, and hand out papers on the issue?

This is where us as Kings Fans have to try to influence people that this "sales tax" will not affect us in the way that paying a quater more for a fast food burger will.

I'd be willing, but I do assume there will be a pro-campaign organized on the issue. I hope so. I really want to see the details, even tho I can't vote. I do care about my hometown and if the details are right, I think this is good for Sacramento and the downtown area.

People who live out of the area can send an annual check to those of us who do to cover our tax costs. :)

Look at the "Railyard Links" thread for details on the location. The Railyards are just north of downtown Sacramento.

Absentee ballot, Ryan. You can apply now and have it sent to you. All you have to do is make sure you return it in enough time.

Election day is in NOVEMBER, not December.

I sure hope the Maloofs become better salesmen on this entertainment center than they have been in the past. I remember a game interview with Jo Maloof where he said a new arena was needed because the seats were hard in Arco.

...

He was laughing and joking when he said it. And he went on to say he was joking and pointed out some of the structural problems, the lack of an upper concourse, etc.

Awesome!

Wow.. there are going to be some pissed off anti-Kings fans responding to this one. *puts on helmet*
Meh, most of those are Laker fans and even they want a new building here so they don't have to drive to Oakland just to wear their yellow leisure suits.

Oops, I meant november! I'm regestered as absentee, but I wasn't sure if I could do it from outside the country

Near sactown, the new arena will be near the old one?
If your driving to Downtown lets say from Woodland.. right about Richards BLVD gander to the left, its the area with a bunch of piles a few old buildings

If your comming from stockton on I5 exact opposite. Its on the right.... After Jstreet but before Richards. Same thing bunch of dirt piles and a big metal building.

I should say Anti-Basketball fans will be pissed off. I think some people will vote NO just to laugh in our faces.

Some people ALWAYS vote no. Let them. "Ha ha ha. I'm gonna vote no so the entire region doesn't get a new facility for concerts, tournaments, etc. That'll show those Kings fans!"

Do not suffer fools. It's too hot.

;)

lol i don't think people will vote no just because of that. Mostly lack of education, lets see what the Maloofs put forth. They said 20mil like right now to get design and all that hammered out.

I think its going to pass. Need to hear the entire package but there may be enough in there to make this actually work. I am very excited about it.

I'm glad to hear something has been hammered out. I'm disappointed that Sac city/county are going to shoulder all the tax burden. Outlying counties, including mine, really should have been minor stakeholders and supporters in this deal. I'm interested to read the details of the plan and see what kind of media blitz is executed on its behalf. I expect there will be some pretty solid resistance to the plan and tax increase, and a tough uphill battle for passage.

Hang on, this is gonna be an interesting ride.

The car payment would be affected, though mass transit wouldn't. If you've got a $500 a month car payment, you would be paying $1.25 a month extra in sales tax. And you're right about all the other stuff.
