Scared by the Kings lately? Check out this Maloof production

Judah Friedlander, who plays Beer Guy, gets ready to shoot a scene of "Feast," a film that's partially bankrolled by the Maloof family, owner of the NBA Kings and the Palms hotel and casino in Las Vegas.

The creatures are stars of their latest project, a horror film called "Feast" that will be featured beginning tonight on the Bravo channel's documentary series "Project Greenlight."

"It's one of the goriest movies I've ever seen," said Sacramento Kings owner Gavin Maloof, who along with brothers Joe and Phil is serving as an executive producer of the film.

"Feast" is the first major film project for Maloof Productions, the family's movie and television enterprise, said president Andrew Jameson. It will premiere late this year at the Palms in Las Vegas, which also happens to be owned by the Maloofs.

"Project Greenlight," a critically acclaimed documentary TV series created by actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, will focus this season on "Feast." The series shows the entire filmmaking process, from script to screen, from the points of view of aspiring writers and directors.

Written by first-timers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, "Feast" takes place in a remote bar ravaged by cannibalistic creatures. Horror guru Wes Craven, director of "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream" fame, is leading the team of producers. Newcomer John Gulager is the director.

"It's not for the faint of heart," Jameson said of the film. "These creatures are vicious and predatory. They have big teeth. They're very big and they move very quickly. It's very scary, but you also have an element of campiness and fun. It's a great, entertaining ride."

The film, which cost less than $10 million to make, stars Krista Allen, whose credits include appearances in the TV series "Baywatch" and feature films "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and "Liar Liar," and Balthazar Getty, who appeared in "Ladder 49" and "Natural Born Killers," among others.

The Maloof brothers have spent plenty of time on the movie set in Los Angeles and have weighed in on almost every aspect of the creative process, said Jameson. But they will not be making their acting debuts in "Feast."

"That's not our thing," said Gavin Maloof.

They will, however, appear in the "Project Greenlight" series.

"I think we're in Episode 3," Maloof said.

Two previous "Project Greenlight" films, "Stolen Summer" and "The Battle of Shaker Heights," bombed at the box office. But Jameson said "Feast," which will be marketed toward "late teens and college kids," has moneymaking potential.

"It's a quality production," he said. "It holds its own against films funded at twice or three times the amount of its budget."

Jameson said "Feast" will be the first of many film projects for Maloof productions.

"We're ramping up really quickly on the film side," he said, adding that the company is working on projects with producer Penny Marshall and others.

Maloof said he and his brothers are jazzed about their prospects in Hollywood.

"We love the business," he said. "Making this movie was a whole new experience for us and it was terrific. It was a lot of fun." [font=verdana,geneva,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]
