A great free agency idea!!! Must read!!!

It looks like the kings will probably lose dalembert but regarless of that we need to sign
MARC GASOL!!! He would be great next to Cousins. That would be a great Center/PF Combo!!! Gasol Reminds me alot of Vlade Divac. A Big Center who has Vision and can pass, but also is tough and smart and can Score. Plus his defense is pretty good. And as we saw With MEMPHIS he played great next to Zach Randolph as the Secondary Big man. So hes proved he can play great next to a guy like Cousins with his Attitude. And i Think he would make Cousins a Better player all around. PLUS HE WOULDNT COST A BOATLOAD TO SIGN!!!!

Welcome.

Hope you don't get too much heat. This has been discussed before. As much as I like Marc Gasol, I'm not convinced he fits well with Cousins although it wouldn't be a disaster by any means. Dalembert is the perfect or close to perfect complement to Cuz. One is offense and the other is defense to simplify what could be a longer argument. I think losing Dalembert is not likely and if the Kings don't get aggressive in trying to keep him, I personally think it will be a major mistake. I see other notes that we would be willing to take on large contracts to get this player or that. There are also arguments that we shouldn't pay too much for Dally. These points of view are inconsistent and perhaps voiced by different people.

As I see it, Dally as the perfect one to pair with Cuz and I see us paying him. If we are willing to take on other bloated salaries on people who have not proven themselves as being able to fit with the Kings, why not have a bloated salary on someone who HAS proven himself to fit? It may not even come to needing to overpay Dally but I am painting a worst case scenario concerning him and to me, I would rather pay too much for him than many others that people seem so willing to over pay.

First off, why wouldn't he cost that much? Either Mem will resign him to a huge contract, or we'd have to bid against numerous teams, which will drive his price up, and even then, Mem could probably match, but that depends on whatever CBA is put in place.

Second, why do you say we're likely to lose Dally? Do you know something the rest of us don't? We can offer more money than just about anyone, he and his agent wanted to come here well before the trade, he's playing alongside a future dominant big in Cousins, and he gets to touch the ball more on offense here than anywhere else. So again, I ask, why do you say likely? A chance we might lose him? Yes. Likely? No.

Third, while I think a Gasol/Cousins frontline has the potential to work better than some think, that's mainl on offense. There's two ends to the game. In no way, shape, or form does Gasol come close to doing defensively what Dally does. Dally can guard 4's, letting Cousins guard 5's. Gasol can't guard 4's, and you'd instead have Cousins out there chasing them around. Gasol is not a shot blocker, or a good off the ball weakside defender. He's decent, and a physical body, but again, nowhere near what Dally is, as one of the best shotblockers over the last decade.

Dally anchors our defense, and makes it possible for Cousins to guard c's while both are on the floor. Play Cousins with a natural center, and you lose that ability. Replace Dally with a non-shotblocker, who can't jump over a phone book, and our defense goes to s***. You have to remember, one reason a Cousins/Dally frontline is so appealing, is that it's versatile on both ends, especially defensively. With Dally's quickness and length, we can match up with almost every frontline in the league, and give them problems, while controlling the glass. You put a flat footed pudgy center next to Cousins, you lose that versatility on defense.

I KNEW I didn't need to say much. :)

I think what happens is that people see a player they really like, I like Marc also, and then try to shoe horn him into our team and overlook the bigger picture. If I had one center and the choice was Gasol over Dalembert and I didn't have a clue who the PF would be, I'd take Gasol over Dally. But that's not the way it is.

And in Dally's defense as a stand alone center, note that Philly is now looking for an interior defensive force. Ooops!

For some reason people keep thinking we have a chance to go after Marc. He will cost way too much, especially if he doesn't resign with Memphis and I don't see the need of a player like him because he's an offensive C just as DeMarcus.

@ Circa, I would rather Dally stay but lets be honest here, if a Playoff or Championship Caliber team makes him a good offer he will bolt in a heartbeat. Sacramento is a hard place to lure free agents to when u have the Bigger name teams that go after the big free agents. I hope he see's the Solid Young Core we have and decides to be a part of turning around the franchise but I think the chances are higher of him leaving rather then staying on board. Hes a Veteran and will go for the chance to win a ring if one of those type of teams really wants him. This isnt like Marcus Thorton, I believe Marcus will resign with us. We were the team that believed in him and traded for him. and he is not a veteran but definitly a rising star. If we get Thorton and Dally then that would be awesome but not likely going to happen...

Most if not all contending teams are over the cap and could offer only the MLE if it still exists after the new CBA. Dally is not at the part of his career where only a ring is important. Money is still important. He can play another 5 yars and make money and then go to a contending team for table scraps.

Money talks in this league. NBA Players like money. We have the most free money. End of story.

Who says we're losing Dalembert??

Miami Heat Intrested in a Veteran Center....Yeah sure were not losing dalembert huh?? hes gonna ditch possible ring and go for the money?? i dont think so...GOODBYE DALLY

We'd probably start negotiations at least 10M more than Miami could possibly offer. He could let that go but that's not insignificant.

I assume you mean $10M over the lifetime of the contract.

I agree with this sentiment. Sure, Dalembert might like the idea of going to Miami because of its proximity to Haiti and the opportunity to chase a ring, but he will certainly have to table a lot of money to do so. Of the teams that can offer substantially more than an MLE, none is an immediate contender. Sacramento will have a leg up in that race for the simple reason that Dalembert is (presumably) already comfortable here.

And think about the new CBA - if the owners get anything clsoe to what they want, the MLE will probably be a 3-year, $15M contract with teams allowed to go up to 4 years to resign their own free agents. We could easily afford a 4/$40M contract for Dally under that scenario - $25M more than Miami could offer. I mean, hypothetical numbers, but they're not unreasonable. What would Dalembert prefer, a good chance at a championship or $25M more to spend on helping the impoverished in Haiti? Miami's not such an obvious choice after all.

Can't it be both? I'd like to think so. Perennial playoffs over the life of his contract + the extra money certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility, especially given how the Kings ended the season.

I'm sorry, I didn't really intend to imply that the Kings would be lovable losers throughout the duration of a Dalembert contract. I do think that Miami has a much better shot at a championship than we do over the next five years. But yes, given the way we played at the end of last year, if Dally is back and Thornton is back and we find a nice draft pick and one more free agent, I do hope that we will challenge for the #8 slot as soon as next year.

I didn't think you meant it that way, either. For sure, Miami is closer to a championship than we are, but I don't think Dalembert is in ring-chasing mode quite yet, as I believe the OP opined.

Old news. And they can get in line with whatever little cash they and other teams like the Knicks have to offer. After the new CBA contract, their attention might be on how do they get rid of some players. Players don't play for free.
