While at Michigan, in the National Championship game, Chris Webber took a timeout that his team didn't have, resulting in Michigan losing the game. Doesn't really instill broad confidence in Webber's future in the NBA, does it?

Or maybe one mistake in an inconsequential game isn't really the best indicator of future success, I don't know.

At this point looking at the full picture, are you betting on Christie to have success as an NBA head coach? He's going to have a real challenge just making it through and past his second full season

I'm not betting either way. How do you judge a new coach with a terrible roster with a bad logjam at the SG, with no good defenders, and then losing his best players to injury? Let's see how he does with a good roster. Or, hey, fire a guy for not being able to transmute lead into gold, just don't fool yourself there's anybody out there that could have actually done it.

I find it cold comfort that I am relieved like many other fans to find out that the team was not intentionally trying to lose the game, but is really just that bad.

I’m not sure how the Warriors were supposed to feel good about barely beating a team that they apparently thought was purposely trying to lose so I guess they at least get a confidence boost

and if next season doesn't go well? That's still a relatively short period of time for a guy with no head coaching experience. So, extend him and give him more time to figure it out.....or actually open up a coaching search and find out who is really qualified and most likely to improve a rebuild?

The league's investigation determined that Christie mistakenly believed that the Warriors were not in the penalty and therefore instructed his team to foul in an attempt to stop the clock and utilize one of the team's remaining timeouts. Sources said Christie miscalculated that the Warriors were in the bonus and it would send Curry, an 86.4% career free throw shooter, to the line, despite more appealing options on the floor to foul if opting to hack a player.“

The decision in the fourth quarter not to rest any of the five players who led the charge to overtake the Warrriors was rather more suspicious. Raynaud only came in when Cardwell fouled out. Plowden did not see a single minute in the fourth quarter, even though he started the game and was shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc. Malik Monk did not play a single minute in the second half, while Nique Clifford played every single minute. Doug McDermott played the entire fourth quarter.

That seems more than just strange to me. McDermott was clearly gassed at the end, and missed two three-pointers in the last minute.

As @Capt. Factorial pointed out in an earlier post, this was just one mistake in a game that really had no meaning at the end of the day. Nothing about it screams "under pressure" to me enough to be concerned.

Pretty much everything about Doug's coaching other than his likeability has been a concern up until this point.

As @Capt. Factorial pointed out in an earlier post, this was just one mistake in a game that really had no meaning at the end of the day. Nothing about it screams "under pressure" to me enough to be concerned.

The team's overall record this season is reason enough to question Doug's long-term suitability for the role I'd say...

But yeah, a rookie coach making a mistake with a timeout is pretty excusable given how often the official score-keepers get these things wrong during the game themselves. I didn't watch so I don't know if that's a valid excuse in this case, but I've been to a lot of live basketball events over the years and in a large number of them I observed some kind of discrepancy on the scoreboard which needed to be corrected after the fact.
