This is probably not going to be an interesting game to watch, but Unrivaled's season ended last night and FIBA World Cup qualifiers don't start until next week, so I've got nothing better to do.

This is a pretty good day but Billie Jean I think was another firestarter musical moment and those typically weigh heaviest in my heart.
 
PSH for best actor, mostly because I remain heartbroken that he's gone. Capote was absolutely not the best movie he'd been in, nor was it even the finest performance he would give in his altogether too brief career, but his work meant a great deal to me, so he gets my vote.

Apropos of only this, I am the only person who thinks of Jesse Plemons as "Discount Philip Seymour Hoffman"?
 
I went with "Stairway" in the poll.

Typically I do take into account the "context" of the poll options - for instance a "first live performance" doesn't usually mean much to me (and I'd be much more likely to vote for the release of "Runes" than this one performance) but I didn't find today's options very exciting.

I do remember a time, way back in the dorms, when a dormie said "OK, what's your favorite Zeppelin song, and don't say 'Stairway' because we all know Stairway sucks." I went with Stairway anyway, not because I couldn't name another Zeppelin song but because I truly believed it was their best. In the same way that if you mention Beethoven today your average person who could recognize any of his music at all is going to go straight to the opening bars of the Fifth Symphony, in two hundred years the default recognition response to "Led Zeppelin" is going to be "They did Stairway To Heaven, right?" I feel very confident about this.

I could probably see that, but Philip Seymour Hoffman was sort of a 1-of-1. Paul Giamatti might be the closest analogous character actor, but even then, I don't think Giamatti has ever quite been able to match the emotional devastation that PSH could deliver. It was just a marvel, the pathos he could wring from the grab-bag of sad sacks, misfits, losers, and posers he played throughout his career. He was also funnier than many of the funniest comic talents of our time, and knew how to be goofier than some of the biggest goofs. The way he put his weight to work on screen, while ping ponging from hilarity to menace to ruin and back again... it was like if Chris Farley walked off-set from Tommy Boy and onto, like, Raging Bull, but without missing a beat. I'm not sure there will be another like him, not even at a discount.

I guess if I squint, I can kind of see a purpose here. If you legit don’t care about winning games, but want to teach and coach defense, maybe keep him around through the rest of the season for influence purposes… that spot isn’t gonna change much of anything one way or the other anyway so there are

Understandable. But in the past, the guys who were cut in mid-season or at the end of the season were the ones with the worst +/- stats, guys like Isaac Jones (-27.7 in three games) or Alex Len (-13.3 in 36 games last season).

By the way, that includes Keon Ellis this season. He may be a gem, if used appropriately, but for the season was -10.1. It looks like an important stat for whoever makes personnel decisions in the front office; that has not changed since Monte McNair left Golden 1.
