Mister Slim Says: Kings get another chance to win their first regular season series this season, having already won in Miami. The Heat are on the second night of a back-to-back, and playing their third game in four nights. If you actually watch the games hoping for the Kings to win, this game has all the makings of an Ackbar Special™, so at least the pro-tanking crowd should feel good about that. There are at least five active referees that have more experience than this crew combined, so who knows how this plays out.

Play. The. Kids. Like, all of them, not just Raynaud and Cardwell (but play them, too).

Final poll option modified, since there was some quibbling over my use of "forgot."

Okay, so maybe Care Bears only resonate with me because I have sisters but, seriously, Underdog doesn't ring a bell? Woody Woodpecker? Bloom County? You gave positive feedback to @Löwenherz's pick in the Video Game draft, so I figured you should have known that one, too.

is one of them Alperen Sengun's brother?

but seriously...

kings lost to portland sunday - blazers were on second of h/r b/b... kings rested

kings play miami tonight - heat on 2nd of r/r b/b - kings rested

tomorrow both teams on b/b (but raptors is r/r - kings are on 2nd of h/h b/b

is the schedule maker favoring us?

for a moment, this looked like a 7-0 homestand

(i did not check first four games of homestand)

I watched some Underdog and Looney Tunes. I'm at a loss for penguins, Underdog was a side character? Rarely read Bloom County so I would not know the name but I do recall a penguin.

feeling totally clueless

Super Mario, Ron Francis, Jaromir Jagr and The Penguin ...

Underdog had his own show. Tennessee Tuxedo appeared on the Underdog show.
oops that's what I meant but yea. I don't know if Underdog was bundled with something else or if we didn't get it then. I definitely watched a lot of the morning cartoons until probably 81 or 82 when my mom made me do children's theater so I wouldn't spend all Saturday watching cartoons.

I usually don't do this, but it legitimately never crossed my mind that none of these characters would resonate with any of you, so here's a quick legend:
  • Pete Penguin: Mascot for Youngstown State University
  • Cozy Heart Penguin: A Care Bear Cousin
  • Icy Penguino/Chill Penguin: Maverick Reploid. Boss of the Ice Stage in Mega Man X
  • Tennessee Tuxedo: Star of the "Tennessee Tuxedo and his Tales" shorts that appeared on the Underdog cartoon show
  • Opus: Character in the "Bloom County" comic strip
  • Mumble: Protagonist of the animated movie "Happy Feet"
  • Chilly Willy: Star of the "Chilly Willy" shorts that appeared on the Woody Woodpecker cartoon show
  • Iceburgh: Mascot for the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Tux: Mascot for the Linux kernel

huh. We switched from SGI to Linux workstations when I was in LA at the same time Surf's Up was ramping up. I kind of washed Linux from my memory by the end of the decade though. I'm surprised I didn't put that together.

I suppose the risk with polls that provide no obvious route through is that the audience simply won't be familiar enough with the options to answer in a straightforward way.

I saw Happy Feet years ago, and it was a lovely little confection of a film, but I only saw it once, and possessed no recollection of the protagonist's name. The rest of the choices remain obscure to me, and I'm hardly an uncultured fellow. That said, while I don't have a favorite fictional penguin, I do have a favorite non-fictional pronunciation of the word "penguin":

I was previously unaware that was the mascot's name.
Huh. I wish I was: my ex-wife is from western Pennsylvania. There's a whole lot of trivia about pre-2000s Pittsburgh sports floating around in my head, against my will. I know way more about the 70s Steelers than I ever cared to learn... She even made me take her to that detestable Van Damme movie for a date night one time, because the Penguins were in it.

Opus was my choice (followed by The Penguin), but I literally knew none of the others, at least by name.

Good poll limited by my ignorance.
