Was at the game and the crowd was amped for that 3rd quarter, one of the loudest of the season. The second half was great effort and defense. If Doug can get the guys to play like that, we may have some light at the end of the tunnel here.
I loved seeing Domantas Sabonis hit the floor multiple times to scramble for the ball under the basket.

Really nice to read the positivity in this thread. Well...from halftime on, anyway.

The change in team culture will take some time but sparks are flying. A fire cannot be far behind. There is just too much talent waiting to be ignited.

Speaking of that, Monk needs to go back to 6th man status. He is an igniter himself, an initiator, a game changer, a shot in the arm (ok, enough). As a starter, those traits don't fit as well as they do when the team need an energy and performance boost at some point in the game. Monk's statistics as a starter and the scoring hole the team finds itself early in some games might be alleviated with Ellis or Carter being utilized to stifle the opponent's offense. And it is not as if Ellis and Carter (projected) are liabilities on offense.

Hopefully, Coach Christie sees this and is not forced to play Malik for reasons unrelated to on-court performance.

Agree. I’d like to see Ellis start again over Monk. He has been so chaotic as a starter. Had a few good games to start, but 6 TOs last night and could have easily had another 1 or 2.

Going back to the Denver game (the seemingly start to the collapse of the season), he has had 26 TOs in the last 7 games.

I like Monk, but just think Keon helps give us what we need in the starting group next to Fox, Sabonis, and DDR. He and Keegan are a great defensive duo. Add Fox in when he is locked in on that end. Can help make up for Sabonis and DDR.

Actually I would like to see DeRozen tried comming off the bench. When he was out with foul trouble last night the team fought hard. It was a good change of pace when he came in and got a couple of ISO buckets.

I just can't get excited for a fully loaded team having to scratch and claw their way to a win against a team missing Luka, Kyrie and Klay.
Don't forget they were missing Lively & Marshall as well (and we were playing at home)! But yeah, this is about where I'm at after this game. I'm obviously happy that we won, but I would have hoped this would have been one of those games where we blow them out by 20+ points and rest our starters the last half of the 4th quarter.

I think it will be more telling to see how we play against PHI and MEM the next 2 games (both who are playing very well).

We sorta did that from Q2-Q4. 87-63 during that span. We just decided to spot them 14 points in the 1Q, for no apparent reason.

Hopefully Doug figures out very quickly that in order for this team to survive, we're going to need A LOT of Keon and Carter in the rotation.

Can't help, they drag us through a roller coaster ride.

Speaking of Monk, I'm wondering if this collective shooting slump beyond the arc is a starter thing. It looks like his 3pt shooting % has dropped, or if Deebo is throwing a monkey wrench into the offensive flow.

It seems that there was no DPOG after yesterday's match, I don't know if they will stop it or it was because either we played "a bunch of G Leaguers" or "nobody tried in defense", cant find any sort of announcement in social media or google.

I have faith in Doug finding minutes for a rookie that has the dawg in him, like Devin seems to have.

I think if Brown was still coach, Devin wouldn't see much time on the court this year.

If Devin can put in some quality 2 way minutes off the bench this year, he could be the shot in the arm the Kings needs to propel them into a second half surge.
Brown litteraly started Murray as a rookie. Where is this coming from?

And hence why this is a meh win for me.

Let's see what we can do against some better NBA teams.
For sure. Team has to go 30-19, just to get to 44 wins, which *may* get you a play in spot. Pretty big hill left to climb.

But I will give them credit for rebounding after that 1Q and not just quitting. That easily could have been just us fully falling off the ship, if we got blown out by the DAL F squad.

Murray was a consensus top 3 or 4 pick in a very strong draft. Carter was the 13th pick in a weak draft.

Brown has been hesitant to give young guys like Davion, Kessler Edwards, Keon, Colby Jones, Orlando Robinson consistent minutes, preferring fringe veterans like Chris Duarte, McCaughlin, Alex Len and JaVale McGee.

Lets see Carter play an NBA game before we add him to regular rotation minutes. Remember how good Colby Jones looks in Stockton.

That’s fair but Devin was a lottery pick and Colby went in the second round. To me it’s a near certainty most of his game translates. The shooting is a question mark until it isn’t and his handle is not super great either so he will have to watch the turnovers.

I agree with that and also ready to buy into Carter, but my generalization is that people are too eager to anoint someone "King" on one performance. I need to see him more than once to get excited. I need to see the Kings win more than one to think we've turned the page, so to speak, as well. All that said, I am eager to see Carter play and see what direction Christie has to offer.

HISTORIC! Doug Christie joins Rick Adelman and Mike Brown as only the third coach in the Sacramento era with a .500 or better record :)
Jordi has too, when MB had covid or something.

I think it's possible Doug Christie gets the "DPOG" to mark his first win.
I don't think they count that though. Remember Walton got boned that one year when Kerr was out haha.
@SacTownKid is correct. If a head coach is FIRED mid-season, his replacement (i.e. the "interim" head coach) will get credit for all remaining wins and losses. However, if a head coach simply misses a few games due to various possible reasons (i.e. "injury", sickness, personal matters, suspension), then any wins and losses accrued in his absence still gets credited to him, and not to the individual who steps up in his absence.

Nah, if they think he is who he is he's got to step in immediately. No reason to wait, he's not raw or that young. They gave Keegan the chance and honestly Carter is actually a better prospect considering his on ball potential. The thing with Carter is he has role guy qualities that very rarely fail to translate on the defensive side. That along with him being as strong and athletic as he is provides major needs on paper that Colby never did. This is what made him a top 5 pick consideration at times vs. being a 2nd rounder. Even if Carter doesn't put up 29 ppg, you instantly become more athletic, more physical, have another pick and roll handler, get rebounding, defense, etc. Obviously you ease him in but even the competition isn't there with the performances of some of the other guards.
