Does anybody think Doug Christie is not going to be a good defensive coach?
Does he have the ability to be a good defensive coach? For that, I would have a resounding YES. He seems to lead by example so far and there is no better example as a defensive player than Christie. He asks his players to put out as much effort as he has actually demonstrated on the floor in his playing days. That has to be motivating and inspiring.

My concern is that he may be restricted in what he does by the front office. Play so-and-so, run this or that defensive / offensive scheme, set up trades by showcasing, those sorts of things are problematic. Yet he is a loyal employee, so will follow orders for "the good of the team".

His simplification of the offense and defense have yet to really be seen in full flower but it should come soon after several practices. The starting lineup in the near future will be the measure of how much control he has over the coaching decisions.

Coach Christie doesn't appear to be the kind of guy that will take into account personal feelings or give a pass to "pet" players. His emphasis on winning at all costs should elevate his status with the team and help the buy-in process that new coaches tend to have to develop.
