2010-11 Draft position watch

It's far from being silly. If you don't agree with it, I can't help you. You can stick with your opinion and I can stick with mine, that's perfectly fine with me.

You can have whatever opinion you want to have. That's fine. You can hold the opinion that the moon is made of green cheese. My point is that it's not a particularly well-informed opinion.

As a matter of fact, let's take a look at your subsequent statements:

The whole percentages thing you can throw out the window come Lottery day because regardless of how much percent the worst team has to get the number one pick, history shows that it just rarely happens that way.

Here you say that because the team with the best chance doesn't usually win, it's a conspiracy.

Now, if Cleveland were to win it this year then I would be thinking conspiracy in my head and with good reason too. To me it seems, at least....is that the team with the worst record gets punished so they usually end up in the 2-4 range, it's not bad don't get me wrong, well 3 and 4 is if you need a top 2 pick but that's beside the point.

Here you say that if the team with the best chance were to win, you'd consider it a conspiracy, because they usually don't.

If A is true = conspiracy.
If A is false = conspiracy.
Basically, your conspiracy theory is unfalsifiable in your mind.

I'll submit a concurring opinion with Vlade and Warhawk rather than repeat what they wrote.

Stats or not, I will stick with my guns based on history repeating itself. Let's bring this thread up come May shall we and see who was right.

You mean the back room that has representatives from every lottery team as well as members of the media? You mean that room, where "anything" can happen? How do you expect people to respect your conspiracy theory if you don't even know basic facts about the lottery process?

History of lottery results does not change the likelihood of the odds in the draft. Just like if you flipped a coin 10 times and 8 times it came up tails. That doesn't change the odds from 50/50. I can't believe people are so ignorant of basic statistics.

Why would you call me ignorant? Are you mad?

No, it is silly. I don't know how you could sit there and think that the current system would be rigged. You think the Kings would sit there and say, "Hey, you know what? We are perfectly fine giving up draft position just to award it to team X." Really, you think that is what happens???

No, it's not silly.

Quote away sir, that won't help you.

Kingsboi, you sound exactly the same as a person denying evolution. I'll just say it's not an argument you are going to win.

Your right, I'm not. But I still like to keep going on even if I have nothing else to argue about because it's just more fun that way =).

well, when cleveland and toronto get top picks this year, i'll have a good laugh. it's a bit ironic how washington got it last year after arenas screwed up.

Maybe its a case of 3rd time lucky for the Kings! :)

I don't think its rigged because there are so many things in place that makes it impossible for it to be rigged and not made public. There are representatives of each team in the room as well as media representatives when the draw takes place. Chances are that from SO many people in the same room, if it was rigged there is NO WAY they would all keep quiet about it.

And are you telling me that 2 or so years ago when we had the worst record in the entire league and a bleak outlook on the future that the Maloofs would just sit there and let NBA hand the Clippers #1 pick and us ending up with the worst case scenario of being 4th! Please!!! Knowing how impulsive Maloofs are, **** would have fit the fat in a matter of miliseconds!

What precisely does that mean? Nobody here (outside of you...maybe) is making predictions. But I'll grant you one thing - if it comes out that the May lottery, or any subsequent ping-pong ball lottery was actually RIGGED, you win. If there is no evidence that the lottery is rigged, everybody else was right. I'm pretty confident.

Well, I'm not quite sure how else to read "we shall see who is right". Obviously I made no predictions, but you certainly seemed to think that some result of the lottery could make you "right".

No professional league would dare rig anything AS A LEAGUE POLICY because if they get caught, they would destroy the sport. Individuals rigging a game or shaving points is one thing but NBA management knowingly allowing one team to move up or down a few places is not worth the chance of getting caught and destroying the credibility of the sport.

What could possibly be worth the chance of destroying a multi billion dollar venture?

I guess this thread is due for an update.

1. CLE 12-52 .188
2-3. SAC 15-47 .242
2-3. MIN 16-50 .242
4. WAS 16-47 .254
5. TOR 17-47 .266
6. NJN 20-43 .317
7+: All others have at least 23 wins, and are above .350

I hereby yield the floor to Captain F., who is more than welcome to take this thread and run with it.
---
P.S. - Before I go, I'll add that I'm sticking with my prediction of 4th place, + or - 2 positions. Three months ago we were a .250 team, now we're a .242 team. We may not be consistent from game to game, but when the numbers are large enough, our true colors show.

I'll even slightly narrow that now, and say 2nd-5th, because I really don't see us catching the Nets, period.
---
With our loss last night to the Magic, we were officially eliminated from the playoff race, so it's probably time to start a little Lotto Watch as a distraction from the more important things going on. I'll try to keep this updated more or less daily in the hopes that I can get myself as excited about this draft as I have been about the last two.

Kings record: 15-47
Kings max wins: 35
Highest possible lottery position: 14
Minimum lottery combos: 5
Possible draft range: 1-14
Next team to pass: Utah Jazz (34-31)
Current Competition:
Cleveland Cavaliers (12-52)
Sacramento Kings (15-47)
Minnesota Timberwolves (16-50)
Washington Wizards (16-47)
Toronto Raptors (17-47)
New Jersey Nets (20-43)

An argument with Kingsboi is like arguing with your girlfriend about why your relationship is going down the drain and she's completely addamant and convinced that the reason they don't have sex anymore is because the boyfriend is always on his period.

Ouch bro! Why you gotta attack me like that? I didn't say anything in this thread for a while. Harsh times?

Cool. I actually kind of forgot about this thread - didn't mean to steal any thunder away.

I'm actually delighted. I've been doing these threads for -- I forget how long now, but it's been at least 4 years. I've felt responsible for keeping them updated and so on. This year had become a dilemma because I still felt responsible, but had lost interest in the outcome. Thanks much for resolving that for me!

And, to those who do still care, congrats on that slide into uncontested 2nd.

LOL. I was wondering when this thread would be created. Now we actually have something to be excited about! Sad thing is, none of it matters. If we end up with the worst record, we'll end up with the 4th pick anyway. :(

If you are working on the premise that the NBA lottery is NOT FIXED, and that those behind the door diliberations that are done to select the ping pong balls that are supposedly pulled to determine draft order, then his kind of thinking is defeatist! Lets go on the premise that the NBA Lottery is NOT RIGGED. If so, we may end up with the #1 overall pick! With all that is going on with the Kings, there is a good possibility that they do finally get a #1 overall pick. I do know that if the team moves and they get a #1 pick, I'll be convinced it is rigged all the way and I will ignore the NBA like I do women's golf! Lets hope that 1) the Kings somehow get the #1 overall pick and #2) they stay in Sacramento for years to come. Could you imagine our team with Kimbo Walker at the 3???

Kemba Walker is probably less than 6' tall, and he's a SG in a PG's body. Combo guard at best. Don't know how you get the idea that he's a SF.
