Thing is, Kevin will be there, but really...is that a really great thing now? We know what he can do. I'm sure he will go score 20 in the summer league again. But all of a sudden we have at least 3 young guards, Cisco, Douby, and Price, and 1 SF (Monia) who could use those minutes more than Kevin could so we could see what they can do. Relatively speaking, Kevin is already established.
Kevin might just be there to bing experience and leadership... fun experiment... put Kevin in a new role and see how it fits.

I'm flying out to Vegas July 9th to catch two of the games over the weekend. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to share. I'm not very familar with forum etiquette but someone on the Cav's forum did a lot of research to find some Quincy Douby video's. It's the only video's that I was able to find.

I don't know if any of you have seen, its good stuff. I wanted to give the Cav's guy some credit instead of just copying his post. My impressions from the video, Douby can flat out shoot. I'm excited to see what he can do in summer league.

OK, we now know about:

Justin Williams, Wyoming
Rod Benson, Cal

Any other scoop on non-current-Kings on the roster in Las Vegas? I can't find anything on the net.

Saw an article saying the Kings got Louis Amundson and Yemi Nicholson.

"Among others not drafted, the Nuggets invited to camp University of Denver center Yemi Nicholson and Nevada-Las Vegas forward Louis Amundson, who played with Monarch High School in Louisville. Both will join the Kings, who offered guaranteed money. "The Nuggets had a chance to draft me (at No. 49), and they didn't," Amundson said. Amundson and Nicholson were disappointed at being undrafted. "I still have an opportunity," Nicholson said. "I had a good workout (with the Kings)."

There's two articles from Denver papers stating that the Kings have invited others to camp, but the articles are not that clear. Take them for what they are worth.

Here's the first one:

That's why they call them "mock" drafts.

Monarch High School graduate Louis Amundson of Nevada-Las Vegas and two-time Mountain West Conference defensive player of the year Justin Williams of Wyoming were no worse than second-round projections before the NBA draft Wednesday night.

Neither had his name called in New York when it counted. Ditto for the University of Denver's Yemi Nicholson. But the center who became the Sun Belt Conference player of the year with the Pioneers accepted the Sacramento Kings' invitation to play for their summer league team, according to his agent, Andy Miller.

Here's the second one. This one isn't all that clear as whether the Nuggets or the Kings have invited this guy.

Both will join the Kings, who offered guaranteed money. "The Nuggets had a chance to draft me (at No. 49), and they didn't," Amundson said. Verrry interesting. Like to see Benson, even if he is from Cal :p . Most I talked to thought he might make a better pro than Powe because he has a more NBA-ready body.

I woudl be stoked if we had both Yemi Nicholson, and Justin Williams invited to training camp this fall. Both are monster defenders, and rebounders. Both can block some shots as well.

I'd say he needs a little more weight to be an efffective NBA body, but here's a post from bleachermob.com back on June 26:
______________________________________________________

Former Cal player, Rod Benson, has been extended an offer to be on the Kings’ roster for the summer league in Las Vegas, a source close to Benson said on Monday.

Benson, a 6’-10”, 220-pound forward/center, recently was invited by Geoff Petrie for a workout session and sufficiently impressed to receive one of the coveted invites to be a summer King in Las Vegas. He had also worked out for Chris Mullin and the Golden State Warriors. If he is not drafted (which is expected), Benson will play for the Kings in Las Vegas.

Benson was Cal’s leading scorer and rebounder as a junior, averaging 13.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg for the Golden Bears. He shot 54% from the field that season.

In his senior year, however, Benson was struck with the injury bug twice. Early last season, he suffered a stress fracture of the left heel and followed that with a torn meniscus in his right knee. Benson had successful knee surgery last January. He went on to post modest numbers on the season (4.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg) as a reserve, taking the court in only 10 games. Benson played alongside sophomore forward Leon Powe, a 2nd team AP All-American and projected late first or early second round NBA draft pick, on the Cal front line.

Benson, a Political Science graduate, is currently playing in the Sacramento Professional Developmental League and entered this week with averages of 21.6 ppg and 14.6 rpg.

The San Diego native appears to be fully recovered now from his injuries and displays great quickness and athleticism, especially around the basket. Benson can bury the 18-foot jump shot and mix it up inside on the post where his athleticism, quick moves, and superior leaping ability gives him a distinct advantage over most players. Benson also runs the floor well on the break.

He is a solid rebounder and tends to be in the right place at the right time position-wise, thus complimenting his athletic ability to grab boards. Cal Coach Ben Braun touts Benson as “an active and athletic defender.”

Benson would clearly add more athleticism to the Kings front line in 2006-07, but the question of whether he is NBA-ready is still a long way from being answered.

NOTE: There were two threads running about this, one in the main forum and one in Personnel Moves, so they have now been merged.

I hate being in NY during the regular season, i only get to watch a few games. I think this years Vegas team will show a lot of promise and improvement from last years. I want to see what Price, Douby and Monia can do together and Williams also.

Love this quote.

Basketball in the summer is really picking up steam. It is a great thing for all us junkies that love to get a look at our young talent. I am really excited about our summer league team now for the last 3 years. It's somethign that definitely gets tivoed.

The Las Vegas venue has quickly become the premiere location for NBA summer league action, as its inaugural six-team event last season has blossomed into a 16-team competition this year.

Teams scheduled to appear in Vegas this summer include the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, New Jersey Nets, New Orleans Hornets, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards.

Hmm, not that I really care, but I wonder if that means some of the others -- Long Beach, Rocky Mountain etc. are going to collapse? Over half the teams in one place doesn't leave much for the rest.

I'm not all that gung-ho about Martin being on the summer league team. He's proven himself already, and the last thing the Kings need is for him to get injured. This league is all about 2nd year players, 11th and 12th men, and rookies, and Martin does not fall in any of those categories. He can work on his game at the practice facility as far as I'm concerned. No more need to prove himself. Besides, we need to let the other guys (Monia, Price, Williams, Douby, Garcia, etc.) eat up the minutes.

Kevin seems to want to play in games. The tournament back home, the SPDL, etc. Guess I'd rather he play in Vegas, if he's going to try and get in games somewhere. I'd have to think this is the last time GP will clear him to go, tho.

Besides, he can get hurt at the practice facility. Heck, Kings players don't even have to leave their homes to get injured. ;)
