[Game] Kings @ Sixers 10/01/12

Why does everyone constantly make excuses for Jimmer on here? I'd love to see him succeed as much as the next fan, but let's face it so far...he has been bad. He isn't making open shots, he's awful on D whether it's on the ball, off the ball or going through a screen
Probably because he's a rookie, maybe? Kind of silly to point out how bad the rookie is playing when the whole team is playing like crud.

as fans we tried to sugarcoat the trade for Salmons as much as possible, but everyone deep down inside knew that we committed an ENORMOUS mistake by getting him back.

We added a blackhole and though the way our season has turned out isn't solely his fault, but my oh my does he not make things any better.
On top of it we'd still have Beno who we could really use right now

I dunno, it seemed top me like most people called the Salmons trade being a disaster right from the start. I was in the sugar coating crowd, but that crowd seemed to be the minority.

I just cannot understand the lack of common sense.

Cousins is an excellent post player. Passer AND scorer. For a team that is this bad offensively I don't see why he isn't getting 20+ post touches a game. Or does that make too much sense?

Cousins was a great passer last season. He still is a great passer, we just haven't given him any opportunity to make plays with his passing. Post him up and run plays off that. Cut to the basket, go back door, etc ..

That is where we miss Beno again. Underrated cutter and Cousins would find him in good spots all the time.

You'd think Jimmer is a rookie playing for a new coach on a bad, selfish team that he didn't get to practice with or something...

oh wait.
Jimmer isn't the typical rookie in my opinion. He isn't some freak athlete who hasn't cracked his potential and was poorly coached. He's seasoned, experienced, who comes in with a lot of skills. I just worry about his upside if this train wreck of a team ever does get fixed

On a seperate note, it's a shame that Doug Collins went this long between coaching gigs. How did GM's never give this guy a chance

Hopefully the coaches don't give up on him. He hasn't looked too hot lately... I don't think he has "sucked" (as some on this board have said), but he has not been playing "good" either. He was dealt a rough hand, but he needs to just endure, get over it, and improve rapidly. This team is in MAJOR need of a true PG.
i think the team needs a real system to play in. i watched the past few games and there doesn't seem to be any real set plays. i'm watching the opposing team move the ball around with a end result of a bucket. this team needs structure badly

No argument here. He seems to be the ONLY one setting anyone up. Jimmer has done a bit of it, Thomas too, but his minutes usually come when the game is already over.

Evans is leading our team in ASP with under 4. If things stay that way that HAS to be a record. And the problem is, I see no sign of our 'ball movement' getting better. I'm not saying it can't, just that there has been no improvement so far.
The ball movement is going to take time and it is unfair to judge the team this quickly. That said, I have my doubts we will get to the point we need to get to as a team with our current personnel. We still need a starting SF that can distribute the ball and/or hit 3s at somewhere close to 40%. That's 4 or 5 assists right there.

if pop or adelman is running the show, it's pretty much set that the offense would be run through cousins. i see MT and Reke do their dribble thing and chuck up a shot.

However, Reke NEVER passes the ball off on fast breaks. OK, that is too harsh, he HAS done it 6 times in his career. Other teams seem to instinctually know that you will get a better shot as a TEAM if you pass the ball around as you streak down the court.

The Kings have no one who would be a first option on a good team, maybe not even a second option on a good team.
See, I got accused of being a troll for saying that (to me) obvious observation.

Even having a discussion about the Kings and asking who would start on a good team was so heinous the thread was locked.

Well, this right here is what you get - a team that has no business competing on the court if even one or two players are out or having bad games.

10,000% correct. I never understood this acquisition. Why Petrie? Why?

I am neutral on Jimmer - absolutely NO preconceived opinion about him.

I can say, with serious objectivity, that there's something wrong with him.
He drove to the basket, brought THREE defenders to him, had TWO (not one - TWO!) Kings hovering on the 3-pt line, waiting for the clear pass, and Jimmer shot the ball. Well, tried to shoot - he got blocked by TWO defenders.

If somebody would have told me a professional would do that, in garbage time, it would be hard to believe.
I mean - Outlaw was right across the court from Jimmer - he HAD to have seen him standing there waiting for the pass.

Reke and Cousins would start for just about every team. Playoff teams for the most part have good coaches, and coaches who'd not only run a better offense than we're seeing, but use both more effectively.

I wouldnt call cousins an "excellent post player"... yet. Hes got nice moves but hes just not that great at finishing yet.

Any reason why Thornton got DNP-CD? Is he injured?

If Thornton was out, Smart should have moved Salmons to SG and start maybe Greene or Outlaw at SF. We have enough size at SF but we keep playing undersized Salmons in that position.

You mean 13% from 3pt range for the season for Travis Outlaw?

I get your point, but still . . . It was an absolute crap shooting night for the whole team tonight. Sixers made uncontested and contested shots alike. We played team ball for about a quarter and a half, total.

Donte actually finished a ****ing break with a dunk, and hit a wide-open 3.

That's all I had to see - start him over this in-a-funk Salmons. He's hurting the team WAY too much right now to overlook Donte THAT much.

At the VERY least, give Donte more minutes and give him a chance to show if he can do that when it matters.

The thigh thing left over from the Orlando game unfortunately. Listed as Day to Day.
