[NBA] Comments that Don't Warrant Their Own Thread (Playoffs?)

I really didn't think it would be this easy for SuperFriends... I'm honestly torn between utter hatred for what they did and wanting them to win so it is addressed in the CBA and the team dismantled.
That's a really good point actually, maybe I'll have to rethink things. What kind of change do you think could be made to the CBA to actually make them dismantle the team? A hard cap could be one, but I'm sure they'd try and dump Bosh before splitting up LeBron and Wade if they possibly had the option to keep 2.

Would it be possible for the CBA to state that no team should have more than 1 player making more than $X amount, for example?

I think it would have to be some kind of hard cap, obviously they'd have to field a team so I don't know quite how it would work when all is said and done, but yeah it would mean shipping at least one of those guys out, and also something to prevent vets for signing under market value to fill the rosters of these super teams. It just needs to be nipped in the bud and something that won't allow the Heat to grandfather in. When the NHL had their last work stoppage and massive salary realignment it meant a lot of stars with bloated contracts got sent packing. That may have to happen here.

Or we can have a 4 team league down the road. I don't know how that would appeal to most fans though. At least in European football there is promotion and relegation, derbies, championship leagues, etc. to keep fans of the have-nots interested. In the NBA there is the draft lottery.

There's no reason to dismantle them. They really aren't as good as it seems. The only reason they made it so far is because Boston, in addition to making an unbelievably stupid trade, became old and injury-plagued, and Chicago became the second coming of LeBron's Cavs - overly dependent on one star and one offensive play. I don't know what will happen in the series with Dallas, but there is no way this year's Miami could've beaten last year's Lakers or Celtics, and for that matter they don't beat the vast majority of championship teams in the past 30 years (Magic/Kareem Lakers, Jordan's Bulls, Dunkan's Spurs, Thomas/Dumars Pistons, Bird's Celtics, Kobe/Shaq Lakers, Larry Brown's Pistons, Big 3 Celtics - I don't see them beating any of these teams in a best of 7 series).

Ew... I have to root for the Mavericks, now? Dallas, Miami and the gd lakers were the only three teams I was actively rooting against winning the championship, and now one of them has to win? Blech!

Interesting. The best matchup for Dirk quite clearly is Udonis Haslem, who's given him fits before, but I can't actually find a way to keep his rebounding averse behind on the floor...
A guy who is 8.1 rpg for his career is "averse" to rebounding? How does that work, exactly?

I only partially disagree with you, but let's put some things in perspective. Miami is this good in their first year together. They've only lost 3 times this whole playoffs. The defending champs lost 4 in one round. Let's not forget how much Boston struggled their first year together in the playoffs after they got the number one overall seed in the playoffs. I'm not ready to put this team in the same category as some of those teams you mentioned above, but let's at least wait to see what happens during the finals to make judgements.

The primary reason I dislike Miami is the collusion thing. I 100% believe that it never would have happened if they did not plan it all out years in advance. If they just handled their free agency's themselves separately even if they did want to team up, I think chances are 2 of the 3 would have ended up in Chicago or New York and the third one would have went to wherever paid them the most. It's frustrating when despite whatever your team does they never really had any chance to do it.

Yes I hate all 3 players now, and I'm not going to say I'd still hate them if they were on my team, I'd still have some dislike towards them (except maybe Wade) at least initially, but I would have accepted them as members of my team. Boozer was one of my most disliked players in the league before he joined Chicago. He's now one of my most disliked members of the team, but I still like him more than the majority of the league.

I definitely think this Bulls team with a little more experience can beat these Heat, unfortunately they will be playing against a Heat team that also has more experience and possibly better role players.

The reason why I dislike the Heat is the same reason why Americans dislike China for undervaluing the yuan. When James Wade and Bosh play for as little as they are playing for, it undermines the competition in an unfair manner.

They aren't playing for very much less than they would have received on full max contracts. It's basically $2.5 million less per year, and it's actually more than they would have made if not for the sign-and-trade deals that got them the sixth year on the contracts. The idea that they are undermining competition is unrealistic. It's not about the money, in this case.

I don't know if it's collusion for two (or three) players to say to each other, "when our contracts are up, we should try to all get together on the same team." Even if they are currently under contract.

If Wade went back and shared the plan with Pat Riley, and Riley made sure they had the cap space on the basis of that conversation, and then they all signed together, that's collusion. But there's no way to prove that, and it's entirely possible that LeBron James might have signed with the Cavs had they won the championship either of the last two seasons. There's also the fact that the Heat were actively trying to sign Lamar Odom in 2009, which would have hindered their ability to sign The Three. At the end of the day, there will never be a way to prove actual collusion, not without recorded conversations. Maybe 25 years from now, one of them spills the beans in a book or something, but other than that, can't prove collusion.

As a Bulls fan, you probably feel spurned by Wade and James, but I don't know if it's accurate to say that your team never had a chance. And even if you didn't, neither did a vast majority of the teams in the NBA. The Kings didn't get the time of day from any of these three players. At least you got some face to face meetings.

Gotta become a temporary Dallas fan now.

As for the Bulls I hope they manage to get Dwight and a real SG, can't make the finals when one of your starters is the worst at his position in the league. Hope Miami doesn't get Dalembert.
i wonder if the heat win it all, they might feel they are fine with joel anthony and not try to pursue dalembert

Not the way Riley works I'm afraid. He's probably breaking out in hives having a center position, HIS center position, filled by scrubs. This is the preeminent proponent of the big man in modern NBA history. He might overlook the PG spot. He won't the center spot.

I just hope whatever they come up with out of this CBA it squeezes the Miami machine a bit and slams the door on any more of this nonsense. Fundamentally bad for the league, and Miami has probably already upped the chances more franchises get wiped out in the next couple of years as CP3 and Dwight bail because they have no hope of beating the Heat on their own. Then it wil be our turn and the Clips, etc. I've watched the NBA for 25 years now. If that starts to come to pass, I will legitimately consider stopping.

I think the odds are highly in favor of the Heat winning a championship this year. And so, this new CBA couldn't come at a better time.

With the landscape set for both Dwight and CP3 to bail on their teams, you know the owners are going to be doing all they can to prevent them from leaving as well as reduce the chances that this can happen to other non-glamorous teams.

If this whole Miami thing were to have happened in two years, with a new CBA in place that didn't have as many restrictions, then we'd have to worry. But since we all can see what's going on, you know the owners are that much more aware of the problems, and should be doing everything they can to prevent themselves from being victimized and held hostage by their star players.

I'm expecting a lock-out and some missed games this year. But I'm also expecting that things will be put in place to prevent star players holding their teams hostage. Also, whether a hard-cap is put in place or not, I'd expect most of the exceptions to be removed, which should help with competitive balance.

We'll see how everything playes out, but I'm very happy that a new CBA is being negotiated right now, as it's the best things that could happen to help us keep our own star talent.

That's the thing. Do you really believe the NBA would institute a hard cap, or some other device, that would force Miami to unload at least one of their Big 3? I would love to believe that, but deep down I just think the NBA will sell out to protect Miami from doing just that. I sure hope I'm wrong though...

I won't be a happy camper if Miami wins this thing.

I'd prefer neither team win the whole thing, but if one has to win by default I would prefer it not to be Miami. Unfortunately for you, your probably about to become a not too happy camper.
I'm not a happy camper today. Not at all. I really think Dallas was tight. Dirk and Kidd especially. Dirk has got to start being much more assertive on offense. Kidd isn't doing much of anything except pass on the perimeter.

The Nets will have a side line including Beyonce, Maria Sharapova and Kim Kardashian. Now name their starting five off the top of your head.

Digging the box score: best case scenario for me is probably for the Mavericks to win with Stojakovic as a complete non-factor.
He lost some minutes to The Custodian.

Not sure what LeBron was doing at the end of the game. He killed the flow with those consecutive 1-4 flats followed by heaving up wild 3 pointers. Should have continued to let Wade do the pick and roll.
