what was the last movie you watched?

Do not see it! I watched the Disney version before I saw the new Alice, and I was sooo disappointed. And...what was up with the dance at the end? Are you kidding me?! They break dance in the 1800's?! No no no...I know Alice in Wonderland is supposed to be weird, but that was just over the top stupid.

I really was expecting something out of this world strange, but this movie is TAME compared to the Disney cartoon. It didn't really add anything to the "series", and I couldn't wait for the movie to end. Stick with the Disney version, it's the best one!

Where the Wild Things Are - The first 20 or so minutes were sooooooo slow I dozed off. The critics gave it a pretty good rating. I thought it was just ok.

I had to take my little sister to watch this movie and it was totally lame.

Repo Men -- Stupid? Yep. But there was some interesting sci-fi ideas under all that stupid (way, WAY under, admittedly), and the use of humor in parts was quite effective. Quite enjoyed it, all things considered.

Leatherheads - the football comedy set in the 20's with George Clooney. A pleasant enough film, funny in parts, enjoyable. Nothing that makes me say "go out and see this" by any means, but a couple hours of entertainment.

Have you seen Repo! The Genetic Opera which this movie was allegedly lifted from?

I was just so happy to find out it wasn't some lame rip-off/remake/sequel to Repo Man. :p

A musical with Paris Hilton? I like cheese, but even I have a few standards.

Know some people who have seen it, though. Even know a couple who are fans, so have heard endlessly about the plot thieving drama -- and, yes, it's drama among those who give a damn. From what I can tell, though, both films were shot at around the same time (this one sat on shelves for a while before release), but the new one was inspired by a short story long before the musical existed. Perhaps. Hard to tell. The fanboy buzz/hatred about this one is all over the interwebs, though, which is somewhat amusing to me considering no one has heard of the musical and the new one had a miserable opening weekend.

I couldn't make heads or tails of it either. Seemed interesting, but not in a good way. And with the big queue of blu-rays I've got accumulated on my bookshelf right now I'm not going to watch some not-quite-direct-to-video rock opera just to try and figure out why a bunch of fan-kids are in a huff.

Pandorum -- was mostly pleased with this one. Wavered a bit down the stretch, and had some holes if you went looking hard enough for them, but mostly a rare intelligent dark scfi piece that felt like it could have been smarter still if not pushed along by the action.

The Jacket -- small movie from a couple of years ago with Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley. Liked it for many of the same reasons I liked Twelve Monkeys -- set up a fantastic/scifi type plot, but played it so intelligently that it all came together and every loose end was tied up. Yet still left some room for interpretation and discussion. Probably never watch it again, but after you cut through the art, smart and kind of like a more disciplined Butterfly Effect.

In The Loop -- Incredibly smart. Incredibly funny. Not for everyone, but if you're interested in a wonderfully dry and absolutely brutal look at politics I cannot recommend this one enough.

Just saw How to Train your Dragon in 3-D. It was a fun, heartwarming story about a boy and his dragon. The 3-D was at times, pretty cool, but only so-so for the movie as a whole. At least I got to see a Tron 3-D preview.

I still haven't gotten around to seeing a 3D movie in the theaters since Polar Express but I'm seriously thinking about Clash of the Titans. I know its going to be an abomination of an abomination, but I quite loved that original abomination.

All the reviews indicate that the 3D was an afterthought and only done in the last 6 weeks. That may be enough to talk me out of it. I want a 3D gimmick fest.

I've got plans to see this one sometime after I get back from Wondercon, but I am a bit torn. Looks like a fun and popcorny remake, but I am of the opinion that remaking a Harryhausen film is sacrilege.

I haven't seen anything of note lately, but I watched Wolverine last night again. Had it on the DVR. Man, is that a bad movie. There's a couple of interesting notes there if you're a fan of the X-Men franchise, and Lynn Collins is incredibly attractive, but that's it.

I saw Wolverine for 12 bux on Blu at Target so I grabbed it then a week later it showed up on On-Demand. I gotta stop being such a sucker.

Everybody's Fine - A friend of mine recommended this movie. She said this movie was so touching. So, I rented it. Man, was that a mistake. You would think having Robert DeNiro and Drew Barrymore starring in the movie would be good. Well, it wasn't.

I was wondering about that one. Seemed like the preview was decent, but couldn't tell if it was worth seeing.

Went and saw Clash of the Titans in 3D today - the 3D effects were not nearly as well done as say in Avatar, in fact much of the movie felt 2D. Not that I like things popping out at me just to show the 3D effect, but I liked Avatar's use where it mostly enhanced the depth of vision with the jungle, etc.

Anyways, the film keeps moving, never feels slow, and is your standard "check your brain at the door" summer movie. Nothing great, but an enjoyable popcorn flick.

I feel bad for a lot of the younger folks in the theater. They were CLAPPING at the end. Must have no real idea what a GOOD film is like. ;)

That is because as I discovered when checking the reviews yesterday and mentioned in an earlier post they made the final decision to convert the movie to 3D a mere 6 weeks ago and rushed it through the pipeline of a novice company. Warner will be doing this with all their blockbuster type movies now to take advantage of inflated ticket prices. This will likely lead to the current 3D revival dying a premature death. Sad, because I quite like 3D and hope that all those 80s gimmick fests hit the home systems in the next few years.
