Tyreke's Mouth, Teeth, Concussion Injury Updates Thread

After watching Evans go inside against some of the best, I don't think fear is part of his makeup.

Incidentally, that's why I think he'll be back for the Grizzlies game. :)
Agreed on the fear part. Not part of his character makeup! This franchise dodged one big bullet.

ESPN is notorious for being a cheerleader for the East Coast cities (ESPN = Eastern Sports Network). Every night they show highlights of everyone BUT Evans in the rookie race.

The thing is I think the ROY race is really just down to Tyreke vs Curry. Tyreke will be fine as long as he goes back to his 20/5/5 self when he comes back.

Curry has missed the last 2 games due to a sprained ankle and may miss at least 1 more. So Tyreke is not the only one missing some games.
The only way Jennings has a chance is if he all of a sudden plays out the last month of the season like his first month. I don't think its possible considering teams already know what he's capable of and will actually defend him.

Considering the concussion should be only minor, he should be back in 1 week... or less. It'll all depend on how he feels on Monday. If he goes back to the doc and Reke feels fine and the doc clears everything, he may join the team mid way through the road trip.

BLAH BLAH BLAH EAST COAST BIAS BLAH BLAH
I'm sick of this "East Coast Bias" talk. I feel like its just an excuse for some Kings fans to justify some of the self-pity and inferiority they at times feel. The ROY race right now is between CURRY and EVANS, both of which are WEST COAST TEAMS. The "East Coast Bias" isn't going to result in a player like Taj Gibson receiving the ROY award. Give me a break.

Nobody deleted your lame post. I moved it to the discussion of the Clippers game since that's what it was referencing much more than the ongoing status of Reke's injury.
whoa whoa whoa...my post wasn't lame... nothing i say could ever be consider lame...

speaking of lame how many threads need to be openly talking about Evans injury... and does Evans injury and the affect it will have on the clippers game becoming extra lame not relate?

lame, lame, lame... :D

You're right. Let's talk about how weak Hawes is instead. There are never enough threads for that...

you are a mind reader!!! :rolleyes:THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!! actually i liked what Hawes did last night... he still needs to man up in the paint... just look at his shot chart compared to Bogut... lol! but Hawes was pretty good...

But lets remain on topic here... i'd have to agree with everyone here that Evans injury sucks...

It was at that point that I realized the chances of us ever seeing eye-to-eye on anything involving the Kings, the Lakers, the NBA, Sacramento or Los Angeles were about the same as me dunking on Ron Artest. :p

Now I would drive 500 miles and pay good money to see that. Hopefully it would match my vision....:D

Oh, my bad. I automatically jumped to the conclusion my post had been deleted; I have problems understanding the whole thread topic concept.

The simple answer is that, unfortunately, the Bee is the only source of Kings information for a lot of fans. And when they consistently hire and/or use sub-par reporters, it gets to be more than a bit aggravating.

Good writers like Mark Kreidler and Scott Howard-Cooper have gone on to much bigger and better things after being dismissed from the Bee in cost-cutting measures, and while subscription costs are rising almost daily, the quality of the reporting on the Kings has continued to decline.

Print media is a dying business. Only the strong will survive and those who are willing to address what their readers truly want. Those who say nothing deserve the product they end up with.

that's where the internet comes into play... any kings news found in the bee can be found faster online...
I know this may come as a shock, but not everyone is dependent upon the Internet. And it doesn't excuse poor writing on the part of the Sacramento Bee, which attempts to serve both media. Jason's article is a case in point. Quality should stand on its own; his article was misleading and the fact there is/was better information elsewhere on the Internet actually strengthens my point. He didn't do his job and I'm sure his editor wouldn't be too pleased to know that Bee readers were going elsewhere to find more accurate information.

Silver Lining

There could be a silver lining to this Tyreke cloud missing 6 games: he can probably really use the rest.

I posted it earlier, but there's no indication at this point that he's going to miss 6 games. The Kings issued a press release saying he suffered a "slight concussion" and would be re-evaluated on Monday. I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting against the Grizzlies.

Concussions can vary a ton. Especially when something is considered a 'slight' concussion. I know Lately, especially in the NFL, leagues are trying to get players to take more time off for concussions, which is great, but after seeing Evans run off the court under his own power, you could tell the concussion part of his injury wasnt too serious. Im still crossing my fingers he makes the trip to Boston.

Really tough injury for Reke I was excited to see him and the guys play on fri against Boston, had the tickets since XMas hopefully the tough sob suits up and tries to get a good run in against the Celts for my sake of course:eek:

a) this happened on aloose ball scramble, not a drive

b) the absolute LAST thing you want to happen is for a guy to get scared and turn into a jump shooting wuss because he's afraid of contact. You win games inside, playing physical. If you can't take the pounding, then you cna just go have a nice soft career next to all the other jump shooting weenies sitting home in May. (This is not to say BTW that I don't think he needs to work on that jumper -- just to say that if he is working on it because he's afraid of contact at age 20 then he doesn't have the toughness needed to get the job done).
I think you may have missed my point. I do not think that Reke is scared or will turn into just a jump shooter. However, he cannot continue to play like he has in his first year and expect a very long career.

A prime example of how jump shooting can not only expand your game, but also improve sustainability would be MJ. When he came into the league his game was all about flying through the lane and right over defenses. As time went on, he began to shoot more and more jumpers. He could still go the hole like no one else. However, now with the jumpshot, his lanes were more open and he ended up taking fewer falls, hits etc in the process.

I think it would behoove Reke to do the same or he may be done by age 28.

I disagree a little bit with what you said. You brought up MJ as a comparison. He was a highflyer. Same as Wade. Same as Kobe. Tyreke doesn't play above the rim like those guys. He's not risking career ending injuries the way he's playing. He's not an above the rim player.

A jumper will open up his game for sure. More experience will also help. But he got elbowed when going after a rebound, not attempting to jump over a defender. It was more of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being on the receiving end of arguably a dirty elbow. In reality, the way Tyreke attacks the paint is similar to CP3 and DWill. He's not relying on athleticism, but quickness, size, power, and the ability to break his man down one on one.

It's not Tyreke getting hit I'm worried about. He gives out more punishment than he recieves. It's getting hit in midair when trying to jump over defenders which would concern me, and that isn't part of Tyreke's game. If you look at the falls Wade had during his first few years, crashing over defenders and slamming into the ground, they are completely different than the majority of the falls Tyreke has taken. One is above the rim, the other is below.

Why Kings Fans are not happy with the Sacramento Bee !!

why does everyone here continue to badmouth the bee? if you dont like the writers there is a very simple solution... DONT READ THE BEE!!!!
I quit reading the Bee seriously when they got rid of Marty Mac. I didn't always agree with what Marty Wrote, but it was always insightful, well thought out, and were important to continue the dialog. I canceled my subscription when they shoved Sam Amick out the door. The reason everyone hates the Bee right now is that the Sports Editor is an IDIOT named Bill Bradley. I have sent him numerous emails, regular mail, and letters to his boss asking WHY some actions have been taken to the Bee's sports reporting staff with NO RESPONSE AT ALL.

Bradley is gonna run the Sports Section his way, even as that plane makes it all the way to the crash site and creates a big crater! He has fired or pushed out the door so many good reporters that have gone on to prominence elsewhere. He just doesn't seem to have a knack for keeping good journalists. And the "reporters" he does keep are flat out LOUSY. I won't name any names and really dont need to because everyone here knows what "reporters" (and I use that term VERY LOOSELY) I speak of. The loss of Sam Amick was a huge loss to Kings fans, and although I didn't agree with Sam often, he had intelligent insight on the Kings and how the community and the Kings interacted.

So to answer your question, people here hate the Bee because it's the only paper in town, they have a Sports Editor who is incompetent and unresponsive to say the least, and the beat reporters assigned to the Kings now consist of a Hate Monger and a LA Faker fan. The reason I found THIS BLOG was because I got tired of the Poor Reporting of the Bee and was looking for better solutions to get my Kings Info. I FOUND the Reporting HERE to be far and away better than the Bee. So I canceled my sub to the Bee and here I am for better or worse. I'm sure many here wish I'd go back to reading the Bee because my posts are always too long :D But I am a passionate Kings fan, and I want the best news and insight on the Kings and that can be found HERE. Thank Goodness for Kingsfans.com!

I canceled the paper back in the RE Graswich sports days. But they also had issues in other sections. A few too many cases of plagiarism where Dennis Love, Jim Van Vliet and Bob Wisehart were all fired for their offenses.

Graswich should have been fired for some of his poor fact checking on the Sac State incident where a man fell from the bleachers. And another lady columnist who's name escapes me wrote some heart wrenching story that got a lot of national attention - and it was later found out to be made up.

Why did all the good reporters go? Simply put, the Bee, like many other newspapers are not surviving the media shift to the internet. They can't afford to pay the talent any more unless the subscription and ad revenue is enough. It's a long circle around the drain, but it is one that is going to continue.
