Kings' Evans out one week with bruised jaw

SACRAMENTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- X-rays on Saturday revealed that Tyreke Evans suffered only a bruised jaw line and will miss at least one week of action, according to a text message from his brother.

Either way with the Concussion he will most likely be out for the entire 6 game road trip. Which works out for our Ping Pong ball hopes.

We need more talent so it's all good with me. My only concern is the ROY award which would bring more media attention to Sacramento. Either way his rookie year will come out to be in historic company.

I don't mind if he misses a week or so. But I hope he doesn't miss the entire 14 games remaining.

And its not just because of the ROY award. I think the guys needs more time to figure out their plays and roles and hopefully it all transfers to next season.

Good to hear hes ok. Now my concern is that he makes it back in time for the Boston game. The one time I get to see the Kings live every year, and I might miss out on seeing Evans. Get well soon Reke.

"Interesting" article by Jones in the Bee this morning. According to Jason Jones, "Evans suffered a concussion in a fall and went to the locker room..." (No link because I copied right off the front page of the Sports section and not online).

A fall? I could have sworn there was a collison with an elbow and/or forearm of Ilyasova involved.

Is it a big thing? No, not really but it sure is an indication of shoddy reporting IMHO. Good grief, am I going to have to admit to missing Sam Amick? At least he got those kinds of details right.

VF, seriously... we should all contact sacbee and you lead the charge. Not necessarily to get him fired, but at least let him know that people notice his "work".

Not that he was not convinced already, but this incident gives further reason why he needs to work on the jumper this off-season. Taking the ball hard to the rack just about every time you touch the ball will inevitably lead to some major blows to the head in this league.

BTW, I was at the Bucks vs Clippers game this past wed. Ersan Ilyasova does play with a lot of slaps and hits.. a borderline "dirty" player.

And really, I'm not saying this cause of what just happen yesterday. I was there with my bro and we were talking about Ilyasova being in there just for fouls and to rough people up. I'm not sure if he really elbow Tyreke intentionally, but he does mix himself up in situations.

Isn't he from LA? We all know he doesn't want to talk about anything related to elbows right? :p

Well to be fair, maybe he got the concussion when he hit the floor after he received the elbow to the mouth?

Yes, Jones is from LA, he's a loud and proud Laker fan, and he and I met during the pre-draft workouts. He took umbrage at my comment about a lot of Staples fans only being there to be seen and not understanding the game. His response was that the LA fans are the best fans in the NBA...

It was at that point that I realized the chances of us ever seeing eye-to-eye on anything involving the Kings, the Lakers, the NBA, Sacramento or Los Angeles were about the same as me dunking on Ron Artest. :p

My point was that Jones said Evans suffered an injury - what kind isn't important - "in a fall." He didn't fall. He was knocked to the floor after two separate contacts with various portions of Ilyasova's arm. The way Jones wrote it, it sounds like he didn't even see the play.

a) this happened on aloose ball scramble, not a drive

b) the absolute LAST thing you want to happen is for a guy to get scared and turn into a jump shooting wuss because he's afraid of contact. You win games inside, playing physical. If you can't take the pounding, then you cna just go have a nice soft career next to all the other jump shooting weenies sitting home in May. (This is not to say BTW that I don't think he needs to work on that jumper -- just to say that if he is working on it because he's afraid of contact at age 20 then he doesn't have the toughness needed to get the job done).

After watching Evans go inside against some of the best, I don't think fear is part of his makeup.

Incidentally, that's why I think he'll be back for the Grizzlies game. :)

Well, the Lakers were playing yesterday. He can't be expected to watch two games at once! :p:rolleyes:

Thank Goodness Evans doesn't have a broken Jaw! Finally, some good news for the Kings for a change!

I was very worried that if Evans has missed the rest of the season, that would be the reason that the voters would have been persuaded to vote for somebody else. Sad thing is, if you play on the Kings, any awards are hard to come by because of the Big City Bias and the East Coast Bias usually come into play and take away anything that is good or positive from Sacramento. Our fine city is treated like a one light podunk in the middle of nowhere. Forget the fact that we are the capitol of the 5th largest economy in the WORLD. But hey, those overpopulated crime ridden cesspools that the big cities have become are very sensitive and they must be catered to at all costs.

Tyreke will have to fight to the very last game to keep his hopes alive for the ROY. Missing one game against the Clips shouldn't effect Evans to much. But you can not be too careful when the Big city East Coast Bias comes into play. ESPN is notorious for being a cheerleader for the East Coast cities (ESPN = Eastern Sports Network). Every night they show highlights of everyone BUT Evans in the rookie race.

It's a good thing that the vote is by Basketball People and not fans, because you can bet a player like Taj Gibson, who is having an OK year for the Bulls (8.7/7.0/0.8), would be the front runner for ROY only because he is playing the East! That is what makes Evans's season that much more impressive. He has been consistently good all season long. In fact instead of hitting a rookie wall, Evans jumped over the rookie wall on his way to a +1 at the rim! He isn't slowing down, he is getting better as the season wears on!!

If Evans just keeps up the numbers he has now, hopefully he will win the ROY. And to all those that think it is no big deal for Evans to win the ROY, it is the ONLY way a team like Sacramento gets ANY respect! I personally do not think that Blake Griffin would have had better numbers or more impact on his team as Tyreke has had for the Kings. Tyreke is a special player and he has been on a team that so far has improved 6 games this season over last. I think a 13 game improvement would be real progress for the young Kings team (30-52). 30 games is a very good goal for this young team and I hope they make it!! Tyreke is the real deal, and he should WIN the ROY!

NO KIDDING!! Are we going to have to put up with crappy journalism from now on from this hack Jones, who is an admitted Laker fan?!? For the forseeable future we're going to be getting only biased Kings...I mean Lakers...news.
