Wait, back up; the rules indicate ten picks per decade, but there are only twenty-four numbers assigned to each drafter; what's the deal?
As SacKings7 said, there was a discussion of how long this draft might take and I decided to err on the side of caution and revised it so that each decade would have eight songs instead of 10.

"Alright stop what you're doin'..." you know the rest

Okay, from 1990, I select, the Humpty Dance by Digital Underground

This has to be my all time favorite rap song. Socially important? Nope. Dramatic? No way! Complete awesome and a song I probably cruised in my car a million times? Oh yeah!

Also, this is a RAP VIDEO, so me forewarned.

About board guideline stuff: Uhh yeah, that was probably me. I'll change any of my picks you would like. I had a feeling my list would stir that up.

Ah, so. The Humpty Dance is probably my favorite rap song of all time. Of course, since I took it in last year's iPod draft, there was no threat of me taking it again.

Took "Today" by the Pumpkins last time around...this year it's:

CHERUB ROCK - Smashing Pumpkins (1993)

[yt=Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock]t1N_qX_r4Iw[/yt]

So many Pumpkins songs to choose from, but I'm going with their first mainstream hit from one of my favorite albums of all time.

Nah, don't worry about it... Let's just say these old eyes were a bit surprised when the album title for NoBonus' pick came up on Wikipedia when I was trying to verify the date.

That does lead me to one request: Please, folks, make sure you link to either Wikipedia or allmusic.com so your pick can be verified.

Thanks, all.

:)

Nice! I was gonna take this one as well since I took a different Pumpkins song last year. Nice pick. Was gonna take Even Flow too, nice choice by whoever took that.

It's amazing that we're only thru 4 rounds and there have been many songs taken that weren't taken in last year's 30 round draft

This was going to be my pick had it not been for the number of GNR picks that went before me. I actually made a CD of 80's movie music that I listen to quite a bit in my car. Eye of the Tiger is track 1. If you can't get pumped up listening to Eye of the Tiger you are dead.
Lol for sure.

FYI, Welcome to the Jungle is actually my favorite GNR song. I didn't pick it because I picked it in last year's draft and I want my list to look different than last years (even though I already took Hotel California again)

I'm not going to take any songs that were on my island last year. I'm also trying not to take many songs that others drafted last year too, as to avoid the same material being highlighted over and over again. Great draft so far everyone :).

I wasn't in this draft last year, so I'll probably end up stocking up on the songs you guys pass up 'cause you took them last year! :D

I should clarify. I'm not a fan of the Rolling Stones, calling a group "the next Rolling Stones" is a glorification given to a group that incredibly and permanently alters a type of music. Outkast ( who I'm sure were influenced to a great extent by our very own influential local golden boys Mac Dre and E-40), was the first reason to take seriously Atlanta dirty south, crunk, hiphy, whatever you want to call it, as a mainstream subtype of hip hop.

Alot of the new hip hop has been in this vein.

Thank you so much for your generous offer NoBonus but I think I have got it all figured out! :D

Wanted to get a couple of songs to make me think of my Hubby while I am on my deserted Island. Listening to this song will make me smile! :D

Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers (90s)

Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers (90s)

[yt=Under the Bridge (live)]-pVHwlQO0-w[/yt]

I was holding off on this one because both 90s rock and the Chili Peppers are so deep, but in the 5th round how can I not take a gem like this? The perfect song for a lonely beach campfire on the island. What--this song wouldn't sound good with just an acoustic, you say? Nonsense!

Allmusic link here. Some interesting facts about the song: the band's label wasn't sure what single should be next until some reps attended a Chili Peppers concert. Singer Anthony Kiedis screwed up the lyrics to "Under the Bridge" and was mortified at having done so in front of the label reps. The reps, however, were impressed because the crowd covered for Kiedis and sang the lyrics themselves. Needless to say, Under the Bridge was the next single and the rest was history. The song's success alienated guitarist John Frusciante (who wanted the band to remain "underground) to such a degree that he intentionally altered his playing during performances (including Saturday Night) to screw up everyone else, and he ended up leaving the band until the late 90s. The choir at the end of the song is Frusciante's mother and some of her friends. More from wikipedia.

FYI:

LoungeLizard is on the clock and will time out at 2:54 PM.
When the clock runs through the night and into a work day, I'm really hesitant to jump the gun on timing people out. I don't think we have to be in THAT much of a hurry.

:)

I'm really getting annoyed at LPKingsFan picking directly in front of me :p

Alanis Morissette: You oughta Know 90's

[yt=You Oughta Know]OSfGmMmWXyA[/yt]

I know this is kind of a "chick anthem" but its a great song and I love listening to it. I couldn't find the official video so this will do.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Oughta_Know

Thought this was funny from the wiki article:
the lyrics of which are rumored to describe Morissette's fouled relationship with Dave Coulier of Full House,
Somehow I just can't picture her with "Joey"
