Soda conversation in my house goes like this:
Wife: Empty calories.
Me: Ok, I'm going to ride my bike a little more.

I guess if my son becomes an addict it will make me rethink things. Especially when he goes to the dentist.

I actually lost weight after getting married, put it on during her pregnancy when she started wanting ice cream and stopped cooking, and am slowly working it off on the bike now.

I know that it would be damn near impossible for me to stop drinking soda when I go out to eat, largely because I have no motivation to do so, but I was surprised at how easy it was for me to stop having soda around the house. I've recently decided that ginger ale and Hansen's Natural sodas are acceptable, so usually have those in the fridge, but I went about five years without anything carbonated (other than tonic water for cocktails) in the house and I barely even missed it.

Yeah, I don't drink much of it around the house, except as an occasional caffiene boost (can't stand coffee). I usually order Arnold Palmers in restaraunts anyways, but still nothing beats a cold Coca-Cola in a glass with ice.

I would like to find a diet drink I can handle instead, but diet Mt. Dew is the only thing I can tolerate on the diet side.....and that still isn't very good.

I usually stick to caffiene-free pepsi at the house, and that's very rare. I used to love soda but have gradually stopped drinking it besides out to eat. Even then, I usually just get water because it's cheaper or some sort of iced tea.

Once in a while, I'll get a craving for a nice ice cold pepsi or dr. pepper.

I've given up a lot of food I love (I haven't had a fast food burger since I don't know when), but I flat out refuse to give up my soda. I switched to decaf diet, but I must...

have...

carbonation...

I can't stand cola in any form. Never have liked it. I used to like Seven Up. Now the only mainstream soda I drink is root beer and I only drink that on occasion.

When I want something sparkling, I like Calistoga's sparkling juice, usually in the health food section of the store. Fruit juices aren't a real good choice for avoiding too much sugar, but Calistoga is one of the few sparkling drinks with no added sugar not even cane juice, which a lot of "health" foods add.

Most drinks advertised as juice drinks have a ton of added sugar, too. I have trouble with triglycerides, a precursor to possible diabetes. Excess sugar is converted to triglycerides in the body. If you exercise a lot, you probably burn off the sugar, no problem. Otherwise....:(

I do love coffee, though. I limit that to one mug a day (probably two cups..a traditionally measured "cup" of coffee is 6 oz) I find it hard to go with out at least some coffee, even if it's only 6 oz.

I find as I get older there are fewer and fewer things I understand about our society. Can someone please explain to me who are the Kardashians, and why on earth do they warrant 2 TV shows? All I now is one of the daughters was on DWTS a couple of years ago, and that Bruce Jenner married into that family. And who is Kendra, and why was she indoor skydiving topless?

Aren't they the daughters of Robert Kardashian, one of O.J.'s dream team lawyers? The reason for their popularity? Well, that's up to someone else to explain. I still can't figure out why Paris Hilton is worth talking about...

I'm with you and Proph. The only answer to why these people get attention and TV shows is that, apparently, enough people out there are interested enough to make it worthwhile to whoever is paying for these things. Or maybe some people just like watching rich people make fools of themselves.

I guess enough people actually care enough to watch. Or like watching rich people have a stupider and more trivial life than than the watcher. "I may not have money, but at least I'm not that stupid." Or maybe its like the "can't look away from the train wreck" response. ;)

Try Pepsi Max.

Reality TV = the bane of my existence

My wife watches some of that crap, and while the contest shows are somewhat bearable, the rest of it? Just following some random person's life, because they're a celebrity? Puhlease. I could see a documentary about a sports figure, because that might be relevant to to a sporting event. But watching Denise Richards decide if she's going to do a Playboy shoot? How is that entertaining? Ugh.

Supes - There's a very active TV draft going on right now and you just outed at least one of the shows I've got on my list to be drafted. For that reason, I edited your post. Yes, I know it's a blatant abuse of mod powers, but this is a DRAFT we're talking about!!!

I tried this when drinking a Pepsi would get you a free song for Rock Band, granted I only had 3 or 4 of them, but overall not bad for diet. Diet Dr. Pepper was supposed to be a standard for good tasting diet but I disagree. The only other diet drinks I could handle were Tab (100x better than Diet Coke imho) and Pepsi Light (the 70s/80s version with lemon twist).

Yeah I'm also trying to collect those yellow pepsi caps, but none of the stores in my area are selling them in packs. I only could find them in checkout counter fridges (where the price rips you off). They are so rare to find I had to buy a Pepsi Zero. If any of you happen to purchase one with a yellow cap and have no use for the codes, I'm accepting code donations please (unless PDX gets to them first) ;) or if you live in the area let me know what store you got them from so I can pick some up.

When I was little, I remember being given a polio vaccine on a sugar cube...

Yes, I really am THAT old.
Me too! :p True story...My brother absolutely hated sugar. He wouldn't eat the sugar cubes and asked for the injection instead. He got the shot and was very happy he didn't have to eat that nasty sugar cube. :D

I seem to remember sugar cubes being at the bank in the waiting area with the complimentary coffee. I'm not that old, but just thinking about it, it was a completely different world then.

Dang! I was thrilled when (after my mom walked all 7 of us over to the school where the vaccine was administered) they gave us a sugar cube. I about passed out from relief.
