Enter Sandman - Metallica - 90's

The 90's looks to be a tough decade for me - harder still now that somebody has already take Creep (which I had my heart set on so kudos)... so I guess I gotta get while the getting is good for this decade. While not necessarily so for their real hardcore fans, for most of the world this is the quintessential song for this great band who were key in evolving the popular heavy metal genre. Heavier, crunchier, riffier than what had gone before. Proud to have it as my first choice.
Looks like we're gonna be in competition with each other for the majority of this draft. I shouldn't have a problem with the 90's though, it's the 80's that I'm worried about. I haven't made a list though so I dunno. I missed out on Creep in last year's draft so I didn't wanna risk losing it again this time around. I'm not a Radiohead fan but that song is awesome

From the 70's, I select:

More than A Feeling by Boston (1976)

I am using the awesomeness - irritation test to select my songs meaning, the song has to be awesome but if it is irritating to listen to over and over, it loses value on my list. More Than a Feeling by Boston is the top of my list, I can hear it over and over and over (and have) and it is completely awesome!

Lots of 90's peeps in here...better grab me some...

BETTER MAN - Pearl Jam (1994)

[yt=Pearl Jam - Better Man]6kV8g2av2nQ[/yt]

I really could be happy with any Pearl Jam song, especially from the first three albums. But I'd like this one. Enough said.

this is actually harder than i thought, because i realize now that we're limited to those 3 decades and a lot of songs that i like are in the 00's.

i guess i will go with:

michael jackson - pretty young thing (P.Y.T.) (80's)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P.Y.T._(Pretty_Young_Thing)

i actually hadn't heard this song until recently, and what really, really made me like this song is the remix and dance routine done by america's best dance crew (season 1) jabbawockeez:

Still drawing from the canon of big time early 90's hip hop and we have:

Juicy: by Notorious B.I.G. (90's)

[yt=Juicy clean version]4SgcCtU704U[/yt]
No justice in the clean version. But this song is about growing up in the ghetto selling... not good stuff, and staying gangsta to keep your family fed and remain alive. Then ya boy blows up and gets to put it in the past.

Plus "Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis," is a kick a** opening to a multisyllabic rhyme.

For my next pick I am taking it way back. This song is one of my favs and I am very glad it is still here for me to choose. I think this song pretty much speaks for itself.

From the 70's

WHAT'S GOING ON- MARVIN GAYE 1971

California Love - 2pac

Given the run on 90s songs recently, and especially hip hop, I better get an essential in before it's too late. So, with my second pick overall, and first pick from the 90s:

California Love, by 2pac.

While my hip hop taste has largely grown out of gangsta rap, this song is still one of my all time favorites. Definitely for California and West Coast pride, but it also has not one, but two shout outs to Sacramento. The video was pretty unique for the time, too. Simply said, this will be my island's party jam. And, as far as I'm concerned, it's the last good use of auto-tune, which has ruined popular rap today.

Okay, the board is caught up. Sorry, but life got in the way today...

Please remember to send your PMs to the next person on the list. thanks.

Kingzrool is on the clock with Francisco d'Anconia on deck.

Excellent. That is the first one I have to scratch from my personal draft board.
Thanks! Hopefully one of these days one of my TDOS drafts will outdo yours, but so far you've been tough to match.

Good pick.

Though, I must admit I'm such a South Park nerd that I can't even listen to this song anymore without Eric Cartman creeping into my head and singing "California-a, super cool to the homeless."
I must have missed that one, what season is that from?

My favorite Cartman cover is still "I don't want to wait for my trapper keeper to be over."
