Okay. Me again. And time for more Atkins unfriendly foods.

Flat Breads -- Fresh and buttery soft. Homemade naan, tortillas, pita and more. An endless supply at my disposal. Simple as they may be, when made right we're talking serious foodgasm.
Grr...ouch. That sits right in the middle between two ideas I have had. There is a third route that's ok methinks. But...darn.

I Select...

Longevity

Longevity to see as time passes by, to gain the knowledge of a generation, to learn and fail, to be a part of history, to see your children grow up and become the great people you know they could be, and to see the problems of the world be solved.

more food to come later.. but this favorite has to come along

Fried Chicken

not the most nutritional dish but i'll be damned if i'm stuck on my island without it

I Select...

Health and Longevity
As Jespher suggested in the thread, these are two separate concepts and can't be made with one pick. Much as the case with the love and happiness pick we saw earlier, health and longevity are often seen as being somewhat connected, but since they are uniquely and individually defined I'm going to have to ask you to either pick just one of the two (for now) or submit a whole new pick.

The missed picks and timeouts in this thread are starting to make it hard to keep up with things. Since kings4lyfe32 had already timed out, SLAB went on the clock at 1:46 yesterday afternoon and has now technically timed out, as well.

However, as I have checked my private messages and confirmed that I did not send a PM notifying SLAB that he was on the clock (I thought I had), I don't know if he ever even knew about it. Therefore, I don't know how to proceed here -- not fair to SLAB if he's skipped without being notified, but not fair to the draft itself if we wait another however long to get going again.

I'll shape him up. :p

At the risk of having funding for my movie suddenly tied up in litigation for the next 10,003 years, this statement just begs the obvious question...

Have you had a chance to catch up the Movie Draft thread?

;)

Ever since we started the nifty linking stuff those updates are a real pain in the ***. :p

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Man please do just skip me if I keep timing out a this ridiculous pace.

I even tried to be diligent about it this time knowing I had a pick in the near future and still missed it.

Oy...Pick coming.

So I need some food. One of the coolest parts about visiting Europe is all of the micro cultures available in a relatively small area. Each region has its own rich history, unique traditions, and also its own culinary creations. With my 8th pick, I choose:

European Cuisine

European cuisine, or alternatively Western cuisine is a generalized term collectively referring to the cuisines of Europe and other Western countries. European cuisine includes that of Europe and to some extent Russia, as well as non-indigenous cuisines of North America, Australasia, Oceania, and Latin America. The term is used by East Asians to contrast with Asian styles of cooking. This is analogous to Westerners referring collectively to the cuisines of Asian countries as Asian cuisine. When used by Westerners, the term may refer more specifically to cuisine in Europe; in this context, a synonym is Continental cuisine, especially in British English.

The cuisines of Western countries are diverse by themselves, although there are common characteristics that distinguishes Western cooking from cuisines of Asian countries and others. Compared with traditional cooking of Asian countries, for example, meat is more prominent and substantial in serving-size Steak in particular is a common dish across the West. Similarly to some Asian cuisines, Western cuisines also put substantial emphasis on sauces as condiments, seasonings, or accompaniments (in part due to the difficulty of seasonings penetrating the often larger pieces of meat used in Western cooking). Many dairy products are utilized in the cooking process, except in nouvelle cuisine. Wheat-flour bread has long been the most common sources of starch in this cuisine, along with pasta, dumplings and pastries, although the potato has become a major starch plant in the diet of Europeans and their diaspora since the European colonization of the Americas.

Restaurants advertised to be specializing in generic Western cuisine in Asia tend to have menus containing a mixture of dishes mainly from France, the English-speaking world, and Germany. Since the early 1990s dishes from Italy and Spain have become more prominent on these restaurants' menus.
Cuisine involves the cooking traditions and practices associated with a particular culture. Having the food and beverages of Europe at my disposal I can have one hell of a party on my utopian isle/planet.

For example, just with breakfast I can get the Belgians/Swedish to bring the crepes, the French to bring the omlettes/crossaints/baked goods (and french toast :)), the Germans to bring the sausages, the Italians/English to bring the coffee/tea, the Irish to supply the potatoes, and the Spanish to bring the Juevos Rancheros. I've got German beer, French wine, Swiss chocolate, Spanish tapas, Italian pastas/breads, Greek pitas, Turkish kebabs, Russian vodka, Irish whiskey, Italian sodas, fondue, tirammisu, German chocolate cake, and sooooo much more :).

Sure there's some gross European foods/drinks too, but I've got some goats with me that will eat anything! :p

European cuisine?? I have never heard of that before, and I doubt that any self respecting Frenchman, Italian, Greek or Luxembourgian would admit to any suhc thing either. ;)

Great pick but I've got a news flash for you... You are NOT getting my Simpsons thermos. Not now, not ever.

Well, I guess for this one I'll just wrap up my cuisines (most likely) with:

Indian Food

And yes GGG I get to have some Naan too. :p And yes, I also suppose this is more the Americanized stuff than anything truly freaky they might eat in the hinterlands over there -- big bugs or whatever. But the internationalized aspects of Indian cuisine are fascinating. Unique spicing, odd textures (half of them look like diarrhea), but oh so yummy. Still have never had any luck trying to cook anything Indian beyond Naan -- can do Chinese, Italian, Mexican etc. But Indian remains a msytery. Probably increases its exotic appeal and always seems to be something new you haven't had before.

Coffee

It's one of those things that you don't miss until you miss it, and then you really, really miss it. Few times a year, I'll run out of the house in the morning trying to make early meeting, without having a cup of joe. Roads on North side of Chicago are never less safe then on those occasions.

have to admit to not being a fan of the seafood or indian picks.... bleh

up next:

Fruits

Watermelon, grapes, oranges, pineapple.. the list goes on and on

Just like in the movies draft, I won't be able to make my pick(s) until like 9 or 10 tonight. So if the draft comes to me before then just skip right over me. And if it ends up turning rounds, just skip me twice. :)

I'm not a fan of the Indian or Seafood picks either. Anyway, my turn to add to the food craze:

Appetizers

Wings, nachos, quesadillas, mozza sticks, shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops (yes I know the last 2 are seafood), potato skins, you name it. I could eat nothing but appetizers and be perfectly happy. I often find them to be the best part of a meal :)

PS Great pick atx, fruit is awesome

I need to get in on the food action too but rather than travel the world searching for the perfect meal I'm just going around the block.

I select the Classic Malt Shop and Soda Fountain.

Shakes, malts and floats with locally made ice cream. Soda from the fountain blended with whatever flavor you desire. Burgers, dogs and grilled sandwiches. The All-American meal. Counter service when you're just needing a quick eat or a booth when you've got a date. Checkerboard floors. Neon jukebox glowing in the corner pumping out classic rock and roll and doo-wop. Pink Cadillac parked outside. I may have already acquired time travel but nothing puts a smile on my face more than walking into one of these shops in the present day.
