To someone who has the time, I'd like to know the combined playoff experience the fakers played this year. It really couldn't have been a lot. Jazz barely have any, Rockets hadn't gotten out of the 1st round in 12 years or so, and the Nuggets hadn't reached the WCF in 25 years? Magic in 12 years as well. I don't think any player that played a significant amount of time against the fakers had playoff experience other then Chauncey Billups. Seems like the easiest road to the a championship in recent memory.
While I hate the Lakers, this is a flawed argument.

Ron Artest has been in the ECF
Kenyon Martin, mulitple Finals with the Nets
The Jazz were in the WCF just a couple of years ago
You mentioned Chauncey..

And I know I'm missing some.

The Magic would be the only "lack of experience" advantage I would agree with.

The Nuggets choked. The Rockets were injured. The Jazz weren't strong enough.

There was no joy in Mudville... I knew that the law of averages was going to catch up with Orlando, and seeing the Finals only annoys me that it happened now, as opposed to two weeks ago.

Sports is largely about matchups and, as well as the Magic matched up against the Cavaliers, they matchup equally as poorly against the lakers. I honestly believe that every other team to make the playoffs in the east would have given the lakers a better series than the Magic, even Detroit, simply because of matchups. Does that mean I think that any other team could have beaten the lakers? No; I'm subject to think that the only team that could have beaten Los Angeles was a healthy Boston team, but I also think that there was no other team in the playoffs, in either conference, built the way that Orlando is built. I mean, they don't even have a good running game; even Atlanta has, at least, that. And when you have a team that lives and dies by the jump shot the way that the Magic do... come on, who seriously thought that they could sixteen games?

As much as I dislike the Lakers and most of their fans (not all). I respect Kobe Bryant's game and although I didn't want to watch this game, I did. And I felt Kobe deserved this.
Why? And what makes him more deserving than Dwight Howard? Or Turkoglu? Or, for that matter, what makes him more deserving than Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony, or Yao Ming and Ron Artest? Or Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer?

Congratulations to the Lakers, and hopefully we'll be there in a few years to compete against you.

You can argue all you want, I know I'm going to get crap for this. Just some respect.
Props.

Chill. I'm not trying to offend anyone. Did I say he was more deserving than any of those players? No. I'm just saying he deserved the championship. He played hard. Just because i'm a Kings fan does not mean i'm going to try and find reasons why the Lakers don't deserve it. They do.

He just won a championship, fairly. You can't argue that. He's a great player, why wouldn't he deserve it?

First off, what do you mean by "chill?" Chill with what? Asking questions? Who said anything about being offended? It was a question, nothing more. I know that Kings Fans in general hate the lakers, and I'm not exception to that, but how about doing me the courtesy of actually accepting the question at face value, without reading any form of ulterior malice into it?

Secondly, the concept of "deserve," as it pertains to professional sports, is one hundred percent subjective, in my opinion. I don't believe that there's any objective criteria whatsoever; it's not as though there is any sort of checklist (metaphorical or otherwise), whereby if you are able to check off "X, Y and Z," that you "deserve" to win a championship. Was he somehow promised one? Was he somehow cheated out of one? Doesn't he already have three? Why does he "deserve" this one?

Again, why is he any more deserving than Dwight Howard, or LeBron James, or Carmelo Anthony? I'm not "trying to find reasons why the lakers don't deserve it." What I am doing is trying to figure out what does what you attain have to do with what you deserve?

Hey, I called it in 5 too. Didn't I?:D
I don't know. Did you? I was referring to the people who voted in the poll...

As far as the Lakers winning, I don't care. If anything, I resent the fawning and worship I know is going to dominate ESPN for way too long. And bottom line? If freaking Laker fans (with a few obvious exceptions I don't think I need to list) were not so blasted annoying and disrespectful to everyone else who chooses to root for a team other than the Lakers, I wouln't feel that way. I'm tired of Laker fan egos; I'm more than tired of Laker fan arrogance. They take the CL out of CLASS...

And I'll repeat my question of earlier...I wonder how much of Los Angeles the "fans" will destroy tonight as they celebrate. ...

Blech.

Okay... I just skimmed through that. Sorry you just came off as offended because you questioned me when all I was doing was congratulating a player and team that won a championship.

But i'm not going to argue. Simple and plain... Deserve to me means he deserved it. That simple. I don't know what others think about the word or how they choose to define it. To me it means exactly what I grew up thinking it meant. To deserve... To claim... To be worthy of...

The fact is he claimed, was worthy of, qualified for, and to me deserves this championship because... well he won it. He beat the competition which was all those players you named above.

I really don't want to get into detail about what this or that means, or who deserves what. Just my simple answer to your question. And a congrats to Kobe.

This was a foregone conclusion so I'm fine with it. Just wish the Magic hadn't gotten hot when the Celts were up 3-2. Oh well. What a cap to a wretched season.

Maybe you should have posted it on a Lakers board?
You're probably right. But I know there are some Laker fans on this board too, who opinions I respect. And I would have to create an account and such.

Not saying I wouldn't, I regularly read different boards with different teams in both NBA and NFL. But a Kings and Chargers fan is what I remain.

I won't argue about our resident Laker fans, such as hoopsfan, Gargamel and even RKid, who root for their team and are still respectful here. I understand where you're coming from mm16. One of my very best friends in the world is a Laker fan - but we don't attend Kings-Lakers games and we certainly don't argue about basketball. He and the ones we've mentioned are the exceptions, however. The vast majority of Laker fans I've come across are arrogant, self-absorbed, shallow and in general reminiscent of the north end of a southbound mule.

I simply cannot bring myself to pretend to be happy for them. And I won't congratulate them. But I am happy that my friends are happy. That's going to have to be enough for them from me...

GO KINGS!!!

That's a... conveniently circular definition which you choose to work from... He deserves it because he deserves it?

The fact is he claimed, was worthy of, qualified for, and to me deserves this championship because... well he won it...
So... you're going with the "possession is nine-tenths of the law" defense?

whatever, being a kings / celtics fan you can imagine how much I dislike the Lakers ( I try not to use the word hate=] ) but I cant help but feel a happy for Lamar Odom, after going through all he went through with his son a person like that needs some happiness in his life, and while Im sure it doesnt take away the pain from that situation, if winning the championship can help him with that then good for him.

Now that I can agree with.

This is going to go back and forth. Yeah I think he deserves it because he deserves it, haha simple as that. Because deserve to me already has an obvious meaning in my mind and I don't really feel like dissecting it. I stated what I thought it meant already.

I have my opinion, you have yours. And i've made my statements and you have as well.

The fact of the matter is, we're both Kings fans and rooting for this team. So i'm just going to say, Go Kings! and be done with this.
