There's pretty much no reason.
I heard a interesting snippet on ESPN 1320 today, and IDK who it was but they were saying that the Kings should get 2 free agents in the 2009 class (they said i.e. Marion, etc.) instead of spending a monster fortune on 010's class.
I only caught like the last 30 seconds, so I'm not sure if there was much more to the conversation, but it was pretty interesting.
There are a couple of problems with that "plan"... First, you have to get free agents willing to come here. There's no guarantee we could do that. Then, to make it worse, you have to be pretty sure they'll make enough of a difference to alter the rebuilding not even one year in... There's even less of a guarantee that will happen.
I honestly think Petrie has a plan in mind, but he's not sharing it. He has actually been quoted, however, as mentioning 2010 more than once. I think we have to limp along, waiting to see what happens. It's not pretty but look at what the Cubs fans have done for so long.
I hate watching these guys lose night after night, especially when the current team is built in such a manner that almost precludes regular wins. And, because of that, I feel sorry for them because I know very well NONE of them dreamed of coming to the NBA to be in a situation like this. There are just too many problems with our team right now for them to be successful. They can steal a win once in a while, but for the most part they're out there knowing full well they're going to be on the short end of the score at the end of the night.
Our Kings of days passed also lost a lot of games but no one expected anything more. We hadn't seen THE TEAM and we had no idea how intoxicating it could be to root for a team that actually won not just one game but groups of games.
Watching right now it's heart that's keeping Garcia, Jason and the others going. It's not their fault they're being forced into roles they're simply not good enough to fill. None of them are superstars and some of them certainly wouldn't be starters on the good or elite teams in the league. We're expecting the impossible - we can't really fault them too much when they don't deliver.
