Sansa selects another favorite, courtesy of the neo-soul-sy, bluesy, Billie Holliday-esque, divine Ms. Badu:

Otherside of the Game - Erykah Badu - Baduizm

Sigh. Music is all taste of course, but that song, and really that whole genre...I just don't get it. Never have. Just can't hear it. I hear those big soft bass notes, the tinny little drums, the horn here and there and I'm thinking lounge act and getting sleepy. I miss the point so much I can't even tell what is supposed to be a good song in the genre from a bad one. Erykah Badu seems to have a lot of fans in these drafts, so I'm going to assume that was the good stuff. But...just can't hear it.

If it makes you feel any better, I can't "hear" Dylan or the Stones, either. At least Highway 61 has interesting lyrics, though; most of the Stones' catalog is white noise to me, no pun intended.

Yeah, same here. Unfortunately for me (when voting starts), I seem to also have a taste in music that lies somewhere outside the "norm" (on this board) as well.

Well, inspired by Slim's last pick I decided to go for something out of the same genre:

[yt=Mother - Danzig]wuK0f-Zur9A[/yt]

Mother - Danzig - Danzig (1988)

Given the sophistication of the various choices I am considering for my next pick, I decided that now was the time if I were going to do this. One of the most estrogen-proof songs ever written (I remember the reaction of my law school friend who introduced me to the Barenaked Ladies when I reciprocated by introducing her to this: "That's not music!" :D), this song is as subtle as being hit over the head with a sledgehammer. By Conan the Barbarian. Repeatedly. Given my attitude issues, how I ever managed to escape my pumped up youth without criminal incident while racing around blasting stuff like this from my car radio I have no idea.

I almost dreamed we would get through this whole thing without One Headlight being taken.
It's actually one that is semi heavy in rotation on my launchcast. :D
It's one of 3-4 that kept playing in between my turns..I was very relieved to have it come up finally.

I'd already lost If I had a Million dollars due to randomness.

Surfin' Bird - The Trashmen (1963)

Watched Family Guy and got it stuck in my head - again. First time it was when I watched Full metal Jacket. It took forever to un-stuck it.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

OK first I owe my pick to my late step dad. He was the one who introduced me to to iron butterfly. Since I first heard this song I loved it. It took me awhile to find the full version of the song. It is broken up into 2 because of length of the song (17 mins). If you have never heard of this song do yourself a favor and listen to it you will not regret it I did not.

[yt=Because the Night - 10,000 Maniacs]cN8peJxUOhA[/yt]

Because the Night - 10,000 Maniacs - 10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged (1993)

I mentioned in the album draft that I considered the Maniacs appearance on MTV Unplugged to be the absolute high point of that series (Clapton and Nirvanna were also excellent), and this video from that show gives you a good idea why -- they've got a whole frickin' orchestra up there backing them, and the result was an incredibly rich and nuanced sound, and of course topped by one of the most powerful female vocalists in the biz. Great adaptation of a Springsteen song that considerably tops the original I think.

Haha! No way did you pick that. That first act of that Family Guy episode was golden, but I don't know if I even want to hear that song again, let alone for the rest of my life!

Maybe it would remind me of that episode and I would get a chuckle...other than that....

Damn what the Sansa says; I'm going with another personal favorite. With my twenty-seventh pick, I select:

[yt=Addicted to You]27Fp9FTB7Tc[/yt]

Addicted to You (Up-In-Heaven Mix) - Hikaru Utada - Distance - 2001

With all due respect to my brother in infantile bias, Distance is better than Ayumi Hamasaki's entire catalog. In fact, I submit that this one song is better than Ayumi's entire catalog. This is the song that made me into a Hikki fan from the time I first heard it, six years ago.

Alrighty...I listen to a nice bit of rap, so I'm going with another fave here. I wouldn't be surprised if I decided to go with another 1 or 2 either. Anyway, my #27 is:

[yt=D.R.E.]ykP-ti8RzYA[/yt]

Still D.R.E. - Dr. Dre (Feat. Snoop Dogg) - 2001

Another favorite instrumental song of mine:

Toss the Feathers - The Corrs - Forgiven, Not Forgotten

Here is a live version - awesome work and these gals are absolutely beautiful as well as being great musicians:

I figured that must be killing you grunge boy. ;)

But I rather respect that song more than I really like it I think. It was just so overplayed when it came out.

A whole bunch of monster songs like that still out there though. Which is a good thing withg people nabbing lower tier favorites instead of just #1s.

I see that I need at least one punk song on my list....and I have a few in mind. Wow, there are some bigs ones left out there. I'll take my pick of that next round, for now, I have to get a Pac track. Can't believe I don't have one yet.

[yt=Until the End of Time]a7JuArhpTB8[/yt]

Until the End of Time - 2Pac feat. RL - Until the End of Time

Using a sample from Mr. Mister's hit that you've all probably heard, "Broken Wings," RL beautifully sings (yes, singing on a rap track, and good singing at that) the hook to this tune while in between 2Pac lays down the verses the way only he could. Maybe my favorite hip hop track of all time.
