Just as surely as I love harmony, sometimes I just want to hear a tight-*** beat that I can nod my head to. With that in mind, with my twenty-third pick, I select:

Blaze of Glory - The Neptunes, featuring Clipse - Neptunes Present: The Clones - 2003
i think this makes it my turn again, i'm nowhere near my launchcast, i'll pick this evening. if you wish to move on, do so. :D

I'm not gonna turn down an opportunity to make a pick :D. Our lists are very different anyway, so I doubt it even matters.

Now then, time for some Zeppelin

When The Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV

Mango Pickle Down River - M.I.A. with the Wilcannia Mob

I suppose some of you know that M.I.A. is the daughter of a Sri Lankan Tamil Rebel Leader and spent most of her childhood in exile in London. Her more known song is Paper Planes, you may have heard it. Her production is pretty original and she basically made it through the internet and not the music industry.

In looking for a good Christmas song, I also wanted to add a singer that might not make it on my list otherwise but I still wanted to represent, so I was happy to find this by Jewel:

Brick's pick got me thinking, and I realized I had completely left any rap/rock/rapcore songs of my list. That's really unacceptable. Plus I've been in the rock drafting mood lately, so here's a goodie.

[yt=Renegades]tqWP1rsAMrw[/yt]

Renegades of Funk - Rage Against the Machine - Renegades

I really could take anything of their cover album, Renegades. Its probably my favorite thing the rap rock genre has ever done. Their covers of The Ghost of Tom Joad, Street Fighting Man, In My Eyes, How I Could Just Kill a Man, and Maggie's Farm are all excellent. I contemplated taking each of them.

But, I think the fusion of rap and rock is best on the title track, which is a cover of Afrika Bambaataa's 80s funk jam of the same name. Rage's version is better a lot due to Morello's memorable riff (which is usual in Rage songs), and De La Rocha's delivery of rap and rock that few can pull of so well. Its great that this band is back together, I hope they still have some creativity left in them because they I'm sure they still have the talent.

Oh, and this song lists so many people in it a Wikipedia page was made about it.

Take the Long Way Home - Supertramp - Breakfast in America

[yt=Take the Long Way Home - Supertramp]7u-qwaGQzoI[/yt]

Not sure why I love this song so much, but as long as I've listened to classic rock, this song has been a big part of my collection.

Pick #23, and Finally I'm going to pick the song I originally had as my #4 pick. I figured it was safe, but wow. D-Mass gave me a bit of a scare several rounds ago, but this is probably off people's radar. Anywho...I think this is a wonderful song, especially if you are stuck on a deserted island away from the person you love.

Pick #23: When You're Gone (The Cranberries) To The Faithful Departed 1996

I apologize in advance for the corny video...

Candle In The Wind - Elton John - Live in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (1987)

So I thought there really was no other more appropriate way to follow up a rap/rock/punk country stomp song than with...a beautiful piano ballad. :p See? I am civilized. Truly beautiful song, and I'm taking the original Marilyn Monroe version rather than the IMO inferior Princess Di redux. I'm also specifically taking the 1987 live performance that forms part of the backdrop of the video I've attached -- one of the best live performances of any song I have seen, and arguably even better than the original version from back in '73.
Won't get any argument from me on this...this was a must have album on my island. This is definitely a much much better version of this song than the original. Very nice pick

Sorry about the wait .. internet wasnt working right yesterday ..

My Pick :

MIA - Paper Planes

[yt=MIA - Paper Planes]7sei-eEjy4g[/yt]

I saw someone else took a song by MIA so I thought I'd snatch this up before someone else takes it. Its actually pretty popular right now, but I feel a little special because I knew about it before it got on the radio or on Pineapple Express commercials . I wish I knew why I liked it, I was hangin out with some friends once and one of them got on the computer and downloaded it and we listened to it .. first reaction was wtf .. Then it was on repeat for pretty much the whole day .

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

Ok, well looks like in between my last post and a meeting that ran a little long MKF made his pick :)

So I will go with one of my favorite punk tunes that I'd be hard pressed to take an entire album of in one of these drafts:
"Bloodstains" - Agent Orange (1981)
[yt=Bloodstains]QR8UcVruNgE[/yt]
Short and sweet at under 2 minutes but manages to pack in a great shouted chorus that is always a hit with the crowd and a guitar solo that "may" have inspired the Offspring's breakthrough hit a decade later.

"Born With a Tail" - The Supersuckers (1995)
[yt=Born With a Tail]tLbnlgaBZ38[/yt]
The Supersuckers are one of my favorite bands that are still active today, though this is an older tune. Still closes the show after their patented fake encore.

Public Enemy - He Got Game

[yt=Public Enemy - He Got Game]LGzztvsnSRc[/yt]

Awesome song from an okay movie. Props to Ray Allen for helping my celts win another championship this year. I was torn between this and the origional buffalo springfield song but I went with this, enjoy.

itunes wants me to select...

American Woman - Lenny Kravitz - Greatest Hits (2000)

[yt=American Woman]JBJHszCsc2g[/yt]
this clip had better sound.

More from MBF's guitar and great workout songs collections. Great cover and if I'm gonna just have one representation of Kravitz on ipod island this is a good one to have.

an original video

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
I briefly considered adding that song to my list before I relaizxed how tight even 30 songs were going to be, but not including the main vid with GGG's Ms. Graham dancing around in it as the "American Woman" is just criminal. ;)

Pick #24, and perhaps my favorite accapella song of all time. Here's an 80s favorite that still brings a smile to my face everytime.

Pick #24: It's Alright (Huey Lewis and the News) Single

[yt=It's Alright]YMdn4JzIgkc[/yt]

Rock Lobster - The B-52's - The B-52's

[yt=Rock Lobster]szhJzX0UgDM[/yt]

This is an odd little tune, but one that I never get sick of. Pretty ahead of its time, too, since it's first release was in 1978.
