Frank Zappa - Bobby Brown

OK, first off, Zappa is one of those artists who got screwed in Albums draft - he doesn't have one great album that you must have on a desert island, but he does have a body of work that requires me to at least tip a hat in his direction.

Warning: Explicit lyrics. Link provided to subtitled Youtube video (thanks to some hard core German fans), just in case you're thinking your ears are deceiving you. Frank Zappa - reason no. 10267352 why I love America. Zappa's "Bobby Brown" reason no. 2 why I'm glad I understand English.

Ah yes, American cultural hegemony at its best. :p

No wonder the French hate us.

What the hell, I'll try one of those random jobbers that some of you are doing. My Sansa picks:

[yt=Rockin' After Midnight]Y9gZEjtJuNI[/yt]

Rockin' After Midnight - Marvin Gaye - Midnight Love - 1982

Not a bad thing when an alternative would be for the...

No wonder the French hate us.
...to make a three hour movie out of a three minute song and:

a) be all serious and dour about it with requisite 2 minute scenes of "Bobby Brown" just pouring over his coffee, or smoking Gitanes until his fingers burn etc. and generally being all existential about it.
b) graphic visuals, for which they'd have to use American actors.
c) call it art

At least we know Zappa was just taking a p***.

;)

My next pick is:

[yt=Kryptonite]jERdZt54S1g[/yt]

Kryptonite - Three Doors Down - The Better Life

Wanted to take Semi-Charmed Life here, but this is a fine replacement.

PS, the video is......weird

Kryptonite - Three Doors Down - The Better Life

see- this is where randomization leaves you...one of my more listened to songs ends up on someone else's island..:mad:

I'm gonna go with:

[yt=Friends in Low Places]7_5XIusA5Ng[/yt]

One of my favorite country songs and apparently the first Garth Brooks song taken - wow. Slipped pretty far.....

Er, have you noticed this being much of a fiddles and funny hats crowd? ;)
Isn't that the first piece of country music selected at all? In both music drafts so far? Just seems like it, I dunno, not gonna go check.

Time to uh, take a great song. I'm hating double up so soon, but I will probably even have one more pick from this band and why not...they're the best ever.

[yt=A Day in the Life]gZez_k4vAzU[/yt]

A Day in the Life - The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

I wasn't trying to pick something I picked in the album draft, but my 2 other favorite Beatles songs are gone and this is the best available. Regularly in top 20 song lists of all time, for way too many reasons than I could list here.

I drafted country in the first round of the album thread. Also an Elvis record comprised mostly of Sun stuff that is rockabilly but borders on country. And I drafted Dwight Yoakam here. Plus there's been Dixie Chicks.

I consider all of these artists to be more country than Garth.

Also I believe Alan Jackson and Rascall Flatts have been drafted.

I drafted Hank Williams, Jr. in Round 8... That's not only country, it's second generation country!
Right, I knew you had drafted at least one other country artist. Even though Hank Jr. sometimes does the silly stuff that isn't really country he gets a pass because of his lineage.

There is a Hank III song I want to draft but I can't even get the bulk of the title past the swear filter :)

Next up, y'all...

Drive - The Cars - Heartbeat City

[yt=The Cars - Drive]uBLGlb-MOGg[/yt]

Probably my favorite song from The Cars, although I'm a fan of most of their stuff. The song is sung by the bassist and the video stars Ric Ocasek's future wife, Paulina Porizkova. Been hearing this song a lot on the radio lately and it reminded me that I needed to pick it soon.

Pick #15 time, and here's another island must have. I think I'm getting a bit rasta heavy, but hey, we did say it was a tropical island right? Here's another gem by the Wizard, Bob Marley.

Pick #15:

Bob Marley - Redemption Song (Uprising) 1979

alright, Im up .. havent made a pick in a while.. not to sure what to pick here but oh well ..

[yt=Busta Rhymes Ft. Linkin Park - We Made It]unjx8yE_Dho[/yt]

Well, My only real explanation for this pick is that Madden 09 came out a few weeks ago and ive been spending alot of time with it, this song plays ALOT in the backround and I started to really like it, thats all ..

Why hasn't this been picked yet? I keep meaning to and getting sidetracked and then hoping it will make it back to me.
Let's Stay Together - Al Green (Let's Stay Together - 1972)
[yt=Let's Stay Together]WAOOFk549fw[/yt]
I don't know why the youtube features the wrong album cover.

I don't really know what to say about this one other than that its the best romantical song ever.
