Tropical Island IPOD Singles Draft Thread - Pending playoffs

Hmm...my list is starting to finally take a hit. Bullet With Butterfly Wings is a great song.

I also like it because you can tell between people who really know their music and who doesn't by this song. If they don't know what they're talking about, they'll probably call it "Despite all my Rage" or "Rat in a Cage" or some other stupid name.

And for your link, are you only coding in the part after "v="? If you are, maybe Canadian YouTube just doesn't work.....Canada is kinda backwards :D

Ok, now people are beginning to zero in on my general singles list, if not the core ones I am looking for in this draft.

Well, except for he wonderfully quirky (and accordingly non-threatening) Bozz. ;) We need more like him.

Great song. Too bad that album, in general, marks the beginning of the suck.
Well, as a major fan of the Pumpkins, I generally agree with you on that...their earlier stuff was far better. However, the Machina album from 2000 was one of my favorites.

Oh, and as a side note, never attempt to sing Bullet With Butterfly Wings while doing karaoke. It CANNOT be duplicated, no matter how much alcohol you drink.

:eek:

Mellon Collie isn't as good as Siamese Dream just because of the filler in it. However, the best songs on Mellon Collie are just as good, if not better, than Siamese Dream's.

And while they have gone downhill, what 90s alt rock band that is still together hasn't? Maybe Pearl Jam is the only one I can think of, and while their new stuff doesn't suck, its no where near Ten or Vs. quality.

Also, who didn't like the use of The Beginning is the End is the Beginning in the Watchmen trailer? That was a perfect song for that.

Unlike you guys im going with the go with the flow aproach. I don't have a list set up in my mind, i just choose as my turn comes around. As of now i have no idea who im going to pick ....Its a good thing thoe because then i can never be dissapointed when someone chooses who would have been my pick! ;)

Okay, have to laugh at the quality of stuff I am leaving on the board to do this, but I would be annoyed if somebody nabbed this one before me:

[yt=Everclear -- Santa Monica]FLFVs5vXlyE[/yt]

Everclear -- Santa Monica -- Sparkle and Fade (1995)

Possibly my favorite song from the entire grunge era, it was the crank it up sing along party song of an entire (very good) spring/summer back there in the mid-90s. That hook just never gets old.

Well, I'm still basically the only person picking R&B, so my next real pick is probably safe; in the meantime, time to throw you guys another curveball... With my fifth pick, I select:

[yt=This really dramatic music]tTaOvzZKRxA[/yt]

Also known as Kashmir by Led Zeppelin from the Physical Graffiti album.

And what a curveball. That was gonna be one of my next couple of picks.

My pick will be up in a little while, still deciding on what direction to go

I almost went with a more recent song, but I figured that would be available a few rounds from now, and this wouldn't. Therefore...

Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who - Who's Next

Baba O'Reiley was my first choice by The Who, but I'll have to "settle" for this one instead. Great song

Well in since Slim is off in R&R land, someone has to go this direction.

Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) - The Jacksons - Destiny

This is back when Michael was still black. If you watch the vid, you can see all of the best qualities of Michael Jackson. This groove is infectious. I love Shaggy's "Dance and Shout" which heavily samples this song.

This is the single version, but I had to use it because of the live performance aspect.

The Pot - Tool - 10,000 Days

Testing, Testing.....yay it worked. Yeah i think 10,000 days is one of the best rock albums to come out in the last 5 years. And that song rules.

My next pick is:

Some Hearts - Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts

She's showing some of her rocker side here and like Brick's Kelly Clarkson pick in the album thread, this is an American Idol done good. I almost picked this album in that thread, too.

Great pick by Kingsfaithful. One of the truly great recent hard/prog rock songs to come out. Went way earlier than I expected it.

I'm still gonna keep rolling off my classic vibe, for now. This is my favorite Rolling Stones song, I'll take it now.

[yt=Ironic for some of you, maybe?]qzz1VEN1SEk[/yt]

You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed

I almost wanted to let this drop and drop a few more rounds until someone inevitably took it, just for pure irony. But, screw that.

Well, I'm on a 14.4 dial-up connection at my grandparents' cabin south of Mendocino, so the YouTube clip will have to wait...unless, of course, a mod wants to find the music video for me and post it...

I'm picking this since a few of you are starting to scare me with your picks...and I'm pretty confident that the remainder of my classic rock selections are safe.

Today - Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

Truth is, I could take any number of Pumpkins songs and be perfectly happy. This song pretty much carried them into the mainstream and featured one of the most delightfully weird videos I can remember from this era. Gotta have it on my island.

My apologies here -- Jespher is away for the weekend and sent me his #5 and #6 picks, and I just forgot he was up after DMass. So here is Jespher's #5:

[yt=Sweet Emotion -- Aerosmith]6yGCHPmfqT0[/yt]

Sweet Emotion -- Aerosmith -- Toys in the Attic (1975)

Atomic Dog - George Clinton-Computer Games

[yt=Atomic Dog]LuyS9M8T03A[/yt]

I'm taking the original, tho to get the full effect I could have taken an extended version as well..but I only have the album version on my ipod at the moment.

Sorry guys , I'm in Florida so it's hard to get my picks in but anyways my next selection is ...

Coldplay - fix you

Don't have the time to type out why but I could totally fall asleep to this song ..
