"Lonely Teardrops" - Jackie Wilson (1958)
[yt=Jackie Wilson - "Lonely Teardrops"]2nEfuE8Pw4U[/yt]
This was the single that propelled Jackie Wilson's solo career and became his signature tune. One look at this performance and its easy to see how he got the nickname "Mr. Excitement" and how his stagecraft influenced everyone from Elvis to Michael Jackson.

Man It takes a long time to get back to me.:( Next song I am picking is from my favorite singer/song writer. He is in my opinion the best singer/song writer ever. Yes I mean EVER.

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around
And desert you

Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie
And hurt you

Since we are using Youtube for this, it seems natural to expand the parameters to include any live performance found there. Do I hear any nay's?

Actrually...yeah. Or rather nay. Just as a violation of premise.

Argument being: The youtube thing was just a way to increase transparency and let everybody know what songs were what and avoid some of the "who the hell was that?" of the album draft. If we start opening it up to "oh I am taking the ultra cool 1974 Stockholm show where Lars laid down this killer solo" then it kind of becomes a Youtube draft ratehr than an Ipod draft, and a contest of who can come up with the hottest youtube clip, when not everybody is even that comfortable over on that site.

Sounds good to me.

I call dibs on starting the youtube clip draft thread right here and now. You are stranded with an I phone........

By the way, a Blink 182 pick this early......very interesting. I mean, I could see some, but "Feeling This"? What about one or two of their huge early 00's hits? Do you just like Feeling This better?
yea i thought i might get some reaction like that .. people like alot of there 'older stuff' but something about this song ive always liked .. i listen to it consistently and have since it came out.

next selection ...

The Verve Pipe - The Freshman

Awesome Song ... I dont know how popular it actually is, i dont think ive herd it on the radio and this is the only song i know by this band but ive liked it for as long as i can remember .. if i knew how to post videos i would ...

Jerk.

That was probably another real reach, but you just happened to stumble across one of my middle round 1-hit wonders. :cool:

As for how popular, I guess you really must be young -- that was a huge smash back in '96 and had a whole underground debate about its meaning going on (until they finally came out and said it was about an unplanned pregnancy and subsequent abortion).

Yeah... rather than comment on this song, I'm just going to go ahead and call myself a commie. That way, I can cut out the middle man. :p

No no no GGG -- not liking the Boss revealed you as a commie, not liking this song just reveals you as tonedeaf. :p

So now you are a tonedeaf commie. :D

Alrighty...after saying I was going strategy free this draft, I have reached a dilemma because I have a song I know I should take now, but I just shuffled my ipod to have it tell me what song to take um..in a magic 8 ball sorta way.

I'm going to stand firm...and do what ipod just told me to do...

Ain't Nobody - Chaka Khan- Epiphany: The Best of Chaka Khan Vol 1.

[yt=Ain't Nobody]ZgnNdNDzhgo[/yt]

This song is actually from an album by the group Rufus & Chaka Khan, but I have the single from her greatest hits CD, well...because I like greatest hits compilations as the one stop shops they are.

Not sure what it is about this song that I've always liked - musically it sneaks up on you, there is rich bass in it, and Chaka kicks $$$ with it....it actually has been topped by another song of hers as my all time favorite vocal performance from her. I saw her in concert and can't remember if she did this song or not, she was an onery handful so she barely sung stuff people wanted to hear anyway so it wouldn't surprise me if she didn't. But I love this song immensely which is why it's on the playlist loaded on my ipod now.

I notice that Kings Faithful didn't link to a version of Thriller; he should have totally used this one:

haha yea, wasnt into the radio when i was 6 .. ( 18 now .. )

So for pick #2 I'm solidifying an all time favorite. This piece is perfect for those dark days when you're like "WTF, I'm stranded on a deserted island, in the middle of nowhere, all alone, by myself. Rats...This kinda makes me mad..." I pick: Another Brick in the Wall, Pink Floyd (The Wall)

Missed out on this album from the album thread, so...

Undone (The Sweater Song) - Weezer - Weezer (The Blue Album)

[yt=Weezer - Undone -- The Sweater Song]wqgN0T6f1kg[/yt]

Remember the first time I heard this in college. I thought it was just weird and I loved every minute of it. My roommate and I used to stand up and play air guitar to it whenever it came on...good stuff. I could have chosen any song from this album and been happy...well, except for one HEAVILY overplayed song...

Man, Rivers looks young...I guess that makes me old...

What a good pick D-Mass. Had that down my list a bit, I wondered if it would last.

On that note, I don't know if this is a reach or not, but I don't want this draft to go on a 90's streak between this and my next pick and miss out so...

[yt=smelly]kPQR-OsH0RQ[/yt]

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana - Nevermind (1991)

Not my favorite Nirvana song, but at the very top. An instantly recognizable song that changed a generation. Voted by several different mediums the best song of the 90s. I'll take it while I can.

I am going to take my obligatory Young American Primitive pick here.

Considering Kingzrool's earlier comment:

"These Waves" is the best house track ever, period.
I will leave that for him if he likes. Personally, I like this one bit better anyways:

Trance Formation - Young American Primitive - Young American Primitive

OK, so I got inspired and put this together in a few minutes for all you heathens who have never heard it before. ;)

Youtube is still processing it, I guess, but it should be available soon.

Unfortunately, I can't find an audio clip of this anywhere for anyone who doesn't have the album to listen to. If someone else has better luck, please let me know.

Edit: OK, so I found this:

And it is the 5th song down. Looks like you have to sign up to hear it though, sorry.
