Kings Select in the 2008 NBA DRAFT??

If Lopez would drop to us, which I doubt, you have to take him and figure out the rest later. Put both big guys on the floor together. It doesn't matter what you call them.

I really hope we can nab Dorsey in the second round. This kid is very athletic and a much needed rebounder. He probly wont get pushed around down low. Although I think he maybe a little undersized and his offensive game is horrible, I think we could develop him into a Ben Wallace type of player wich may not be so bad. If we dont end up getting a PF in the first (We probly will but who knows whats going on in Petrie's mind) I think this kid has major potential and we should get him if he is still there.

As for the first rounder. I dont like Speights that much I think he may not be ready to play in the nba. He has very poor shot selection, he is really not as conditioned as well as we would like him to be. He in my prespective would be a risk. If we were to pick this guy I wouldnt be mad, nor dissapointed or angry. He would be good for our "development process" because he needs sometime to develop. He's what you call a "late bloomer".

I would love for us to get Augustin or Westbrook, but I dont see that happening so I guess the best choice for us is to get Randolph.

Co-sign. If we get someone like Randolph or Arthur in the first round I wouldnt be surprised if we go for someone like Mike Taylor with one of the second round picks as well.

I would say Speights is probably more ready than Randolph. Randolph is going to get pushed around a lot more than Speights right from the beginning.

I find myself, more and more, disliking the guys who are slated to go around #12:

DeAndre Jordan: Very athletic but no skill whatsoever. I see him as the next Adonal Foyle/Kwame Brown.

Anthony Randolph: let's be clear, this guys is a SF through and through, even he said he's a SF. So essentially, he's a wing player with good size, handle, and athleticism but can't shoot. Meet the next Darius Miles.

Maresse Speights: He's not a star but I see him as a solid 10 and 9 type of player. I think he'll always be a poor defender and bad decision maker. Kind of like a bigger version of KT9 (Adelman era).

JaVale McGee: somehow I just can't shake the feeling that he is just "too good to be true." Athletic seven footer with skill and star potential that can be had in the late lottery is... well, probably a fool's gold. Athough, if we're going to gamble, this is the guy I want to gamble with; simply because his ceiling is the highest, even if his bustibility is the highest too.

Darell Arthur: I can't believe I'm saying this, but Arthur may just have the best combination of safe pick + talent. He's not a star and barely a starter, he will be owned by most of the PFs in the western conference, and he's never going to average more than 7.5 rebound a game. But at least you know what you're getting with Arthur: good motor, plays within himself, and a rotation player.

Roy Hibbert: I seriously doubt we're picking him at #12, but if we do then we draft the next Brandon Haywood.

So in conclusion: I really hope GP pull a surprise and pick a diamond out of the rough, someone not on the list I mentioned above. And if he did pick someone from my list, I truly hope I'm wrong about that player's ability.

And I'm assuming Alexander, Augustin, Gallinari, and Westbrook will be long gone.

For a surprise guy, how do you feel about Ajinca? I don't even think we've worked him out but I like his potential from what I've seen.

I honesty don't know what to think of Ajinca. I saw some game footage of him where he didn't touch the ball much and is basically a Mikki Moore type screen setter. I thought he is just a role player, but maybe he was under-utilized.

It wouldn't trouble me if we pick him though. At worst he have a replacement for Mikki Moore.

How about my dark horse, Jason Thompson. I really like this guy, and I think the Warriors will take him at 14 if someone doesn't take him sooner.

I'm not positive, but I think he was at the multiteam workout the Warriors had. Hard to comment on someone I haven't seen play. I'm sure Chad Ford will fill us in..:D

Well, those are all pretty much worst-case scenario projections and while it's likely that the truth of the matter might turn out to be close (looking at past #12 picks certainly suggests so) it's also likely that one or two of those guys will actually live up to their potential. The trick is finding the right one though.

Given your projections, I think Nicolas Batum and Donte Greene should be in consideration because their worst-case is about comparable to the guys you listed with similar upside as well. Maybe even Brandon Rush, even though he doesn't fit our roster very well.

The only point in particular I disagree with is about Anthony Randolph. He is definitely a SF, but that doesn't make his upside Darius Miles. He's got to work on the 3 point shot for sure, that's the big thing, but with his length and athleticism he could be a solid perimeter defender like Tayshaun Prince. He's shown a knack for picking up blocks and steals in college and rebounds well too. Also, it's easy to forget this now, but Darius Miles was drafted third overall and looked like a star in the making his first season in LA. Looking back now, his failure to improve can be attributed mostly to his poor attitude and injury problems. As late as 2005 he was putting up pretty good numbers in Portland before injuries ended his career. Considering the comparison is regarding body-type and style of play not attitude or work-ethic, I don't think it's fair to assume Randolph's career will turn out like Miles' did.

I looked up the draft thread from last year... Heres some quotes after we officially drafted Hawes....Wow This Is Just Too Funny ! ! ! Im Bustin Up Reading All These Posts... I Cant Wait For Thurs ! ! ! Lol !

"god Bless George Bush" Bumper Sticker... Even Better...
looks Like Brad Got A Huntin Budy...
miller / Rahim / Thomas / Hawes !!!!!
I Love That!!!!
oh For The Love Of God.

lol Hahhaha...this Is So Pathetic Its Becoming Funny. What Did We Ever Do To Deserve This?
great, Espn's Notes Say "must Improve: Rebounding". Fits Right In To Our Current Team. Is Petrie Trying To Construct A Team Consisting Of 6'7" Tweeners And Slow White Dudes? Because That Don't Win Championships. Highly Disappointed That We Haven't Seen Any Trades Go Down Yet Either, Though Maybe That Is Asking Too Much.:mad::mad:
petrie Is No Longer A Genius I See.
if I Line Up My Monkey Paws, Chicken Feet And Squirrel Tails, Just Maybe
We Will Get A Trade.....here Goes Nothing

man i cant believe how angry i was to get hawes. hopefully he keeps up with developing and proves us wrong. i think i was really set on Yi, wright, and thornton and didnt want a brad miller clone. now that i know we have someone watching what we say, i better be alil more careful ;)

I said I wanted us to draft Hawes and I was one of his biggest defenders after the draft. It really helps to watch these players play, and not rely on some pundit, who is usually relying on some other pundit for his info.

I'll admit that I really didn't want us to take Hawes. I was hoping for Wright actually, and I seen him go to Charlotte, then GS. Then I was kinda hoping for Thornton or Julian Wright. But at least we didn't pick Noah

I was against the pick of Hawes. When the Kings took him, I punched my couch. But over the course of the year, I came around, and now I like him.

This year, I'm really hoping we don't take Hibbert. My couch is already cringing.

100% with you. Hawes flashed a lot of promise, but he still has a long way to go. For the record I wanted Thaddeus Young, who considering his age, had the best rookie year of anyone not named Durant or Horford.
I liked Young better than the other SFs and also wanted Jason Smith, who showed some flashes of promise early before kind of fading down the stretch. He and Hawes put up remarkably identical stats.

In any event, it's too early to judge Quincy Douby, let alone this past year's draft.

Last year I admit that I was against the Hawes pick, I wanted Noah and rumors say that so did Petrie. Who knows how that would have worked, just because he had problems in Chicago doesn't mean he would have here.

After he was gone I wanted Thornton or Wright, Thornton probably more. After seeing those guys I think they will be both be good but Wright is looking like a stud, I bet he starts this year over Peterson in New Orleans.

Not sure if you were referring to my post about Noah or not, but I wasn't referring to his "problems". I just didn't want to take him at this point last year.

A potential deal with Memphis and New York apparently has some legs. The Knicks, who have the No. 6 pick, would get the Grizzlies' No. 5 pick and give David Lee and other considerations to Memphis. New York would then select UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Italy's Danilo Gallinari with its No. 5 and No. 6 picks. If Memphis selects UCLA's Kevin Love, that is a strong indicator that the Grizzlies are keeping the pick.

doesnt change much for us, but interesting none the less.. if anything probly means we wont be gettin lee in a deal for ron, but those rumors have been dead for some time.

No idea why the Grizz would do that. Good as Lee is, he is not worth the 5th pick. Why not just take Love who will be better than him? It doesn't make sense. As far as I can see, it's a no brainer for NY.
If NY came out of this draft with Westbrook and Gallinari, that's a very good draft. Things would be looking up for the Knicks future, taking into account they'll be adding some more young talent the next few years in the lottery.

Kings really need to get into action. Try to acquire picks, youth. Just try to trade some of our older guys. Not easy to do, but Geoff really needs to be proactive instead of reactive. Last few years we've just been making our pick and going home with nothing happening. This is the year, with such a deep draft, we need to be acquiring another mid to late 1st rounder. Problem is, we don't have alot to offer.

Does anyone think it is a steal if Kings can finally pick Anthony Randolph
He's very intriguing, but also very high risk high reward. Could be a bust, but I'd love to nab him. We need some guys with star potential. He's definitely a SF, but I don't see the problem with a tall, athletic SF.

Even if he's there, not sure GP makes the exciting pick. He likes his solid players, not "raw" ones, and he's said he won't take anyone he hasn't seen workout. Didn't Randolph refuse to workout for us?

Well, I heard Cardinal's contract would be going NY's way.

Hard to believe. If this deal goes down then I know for sur' David Stern is the puppeteer behind the Grizzlies giving Pau to LA and now the #5 pick to NY.

Does anyone think it is a steal if Kings can finally pick Anthony Randolph
The Kings are very unlikely to pick Randolph - he reportedly would not work out with us despite working out for Indiana at #11 and Portland at #13. After that, there's almost no likelihood that Petrie will pick him even if he is available.

That said, I'm thankful. Randolph is my pick for this year's biggest draft bust. He's tall and athletic, sure, but he's just not a very good basketball player. He's too skinny to play PF, and doesn't have the shooting touch to play SF. And yes, the attitude of "I won't work out for team X" (for whatever reason) is a red flag to me. I'll gladly let somebody else "steal" him on draft day.
