Garcia is a great 6th man and maybe a potential starter for us when Artest moves on but it may be worth it, it's a deep draft and we do need a PG...although I've never been super impressed with Jack.

LPKingsFan's semi-realistic wish: land either Randolph or Augustin at #12, then trade one of our SF's for a mid/late 1st and nab either Chalmers or Jason Thompson, in the respective scenarios.

Maybe. But most everything is a maybe at #12. At this point 19-year-old Bayless is more of a shoot first guard - thus a combo. He is an extremely talented scorer and excellent shooter. If if fell to the Kings I guess we take him since we just have to get a PG somewhere, somehow for next season. It would definitely mean the Kings just love those UofA guards with Bibby and Shakur Wildcats who had their shots in Sactown.
 
i still want joe alexander... his favorite player/team was jason williams and the sacramento kings btw...

Bayless has been projected to go #4 in a lot of drafts. The odds of him falling all the way to 12 seem slim to none to me.

But if for whatever reason he's there, we definitely would have to grab him.
 
If there IS a guy that falls, I would think it would be Eric Gordon. He's the guy where you think, ok, another Ben Gordon..... but how valuable is Ben Gordon?

Bayless at least you know can run the point. Might not be the best point, but you know he can hold down the position.

Eric Gordon on the other hand... talented, but probably destined to be a high-scoring sparkplug off the bench. I can see people talking themselves out of that pick.

I think Bayless has bigger bust potential than Gordon Actually. Bayless may be more of a PG than Gordon, but he's still gonna fail at PG IMO and he doesn't have the body to be a SG. Gordon has more tools to succeed at SG because he's excellent athletically, is very strong, and good enough length. Has has the physical attributes and skills to replicate Ben Gordon, but he's also got better strength on top of it. He's definitely a 6'3 SG, but I think he can stick there in the right situation.

Yep. That's why I don't get everyone going gaga how DEEP this draft is. For guards and especially true/pure points it appears to be one of the worst ever IMO (yes, Rose a PG exception and Mayo the upside thing). The bigs with maybe 4-5 sure bets are mostly raw and need years to develop - if ever. The swingmen as usual are most NBA ready. Since the Kings must have a guard from somewhere the list available on draft day as I rate them (could add a couple more, but so what):

1. Rose PG
2. Mayo SG
3. Bayless PG/SG
4. Gordon SG
5. Westbrook SG/PG
6. Chalmers SG/PG
7. Augustin PG
8. Lee SG

The Kings like shoot first point guards. And they don't like little dinkers like Augustin - at least Reggie doesn't. I think they'd snap Bayless up in 15 seconds.

Possibly, although I think Bayless has enough ballhandling skills to at least bring the ball up the floor in the NBA. He may never be a great passer or distributor, but at worst he could still be a good scoring-oriented point guard like Mike Bibby, or, best case, like Gilbert Arenas.

Gordon doesn't have that kind of handle, so he's a pure SG. And while he may have the athleticism to play the position and he may improve his ballhandling, right now it really limits his usefulness because you're always going to have to have a PG on the floor. He'd better score a ton of points because that kind of a lineup would get killed defensively.

And Bayless is no slouch athletically either -- 38" vertical.

I wouldn't say Bibby, I'd say Monta Ellis at best.

I don't doubt Eric Gordon is strictly a SG, whenever I hear him say he's going to be a PG down the line I laugh. I just think Gordon has a much better chance of succeeding at SG than Bayless has at succeeding at PG.

I know, but he's frail and has t-rex arms.

I disagree with the Ellis comparisons. I think he'll be better. And I don't think they're similar in style. I also think he'll be a PG, and a pretty good one at that. Just because he is a talented scorer, it doesn't make him a SG (not saying you're saying that). He's a good enough ball handler and passer to be a full time PG.

I don't think he's frail either. He's not a beast, but he's fine physically.
