I could care less about the signing but now instead of 2 ppl having to go it has to be 3 and I really wanted to see Amundson and Williams develope. I would be fine if some of the others would be let go. But you just can't waive 9 mil in expiring deals.
Guess, we all do. However, chances of big men who go undrafted having good carrers is very remote (Before people say Ben Wallace or Brad Miller, remember they are exceptions, rather than the rule). Size is at such a premium and so difficult to obtain via trades or free agency, that teams take considerable risks in picking size in the draft, even if they are projects. In his analysis on ESPN of the outlook for different teams (the Kings analysis is being discussed in a different thread), John Hollinger makes the following observation while discussing the Warriors draft pick
Based on recent history, the Warriors are looking at about one-in-four odds that O'Bryant becomes a useful player -- not a star player, just a decent one. Of the previous 19 players who were at least 7 feet tall, weighed at least 250 pounds and were taken between picks Nos. 4 and 15 in the NBA draft, only four --
Dikembe Mutombo,
Chris Mihm,
Chris Kaman, and Bryant Reeves -- were even decent, and only Mutombo became an All-Star.
DeSagana Diop has a chance to make it five, but either way it's an absolutely horrid hit rate for a draft position where teams otherwise almost always get somebody decent.
While it's always possible to land a decent big player who goes undrafted, we would have to be extremely lucky (assuming they make the roster), if even one of the two players developed into a legit NBA player, demanding regular minutes. For all his faults, Mo Taylor has been around. If Petrie has been able to pick him on the cheap, what is so bad about it?
