Watch for it - Maurice Taylor (merged)

#91
Was reading some comments on a Knicks board. They all seemed happy to see him go when he was waived. And he sure ripped the Knicks as being a "bad" team on his way out. Neither of those things makes me feel good.

But once again, I will give a player a clean slate. He's now a King. I wonder what the contract terms are?

wow. i can think of worst players, i can think of better. I actually like this...just like GP said "We look forward to having him provide us with some additional depth, flexibility and veteran experience on our frontline"

he'll be nice off the bench

The Knicks are a bad team. ;)

hakim warrick was the memphis rook/syracuse star that had a field day with our front court
Thats him... I especially liked that picture of him dunking on Garcia when it was voted for Dunk of the Year. (why do we always get dunked on and then somehow it becomes so public). If other teams's rookies are low on confidence, they should get a scrimmage going with the kings, they will feel like Jordan.

I think I'm one of the few that feels he can be productive for us coming off the bench. Welcome aboard Mo-T.
The addition of Maurice Taylor, I feel the Kings will be a #8 seed team.....barely. I just don't see the Kings going anywhere this season. However, I do hope I am wrong.

I would have walked out saying the Knicks are a bad team. i can't blame the guy, its not like he was lying about anything.

Now matter what you say about Mo you can't erase the fact that he is a veteran presence who can contribute instantly both on and off the court.I'd rather have a proven bench than a bunch of rookies who never played in the NBA before especially if we got him for cheap. Plus he can help with the motivational issue of both Amundson and Williams meaning they would have to work alot harder to make the roster....at the end it might be good for both of our big rooks.

LOL! Too true. Just not sure I like a former player saying out loud on his way out the door. Just smacks of sour grapes and cheap shots is all.;)
Oh, don't be mistaken. I will raise the red flag here as I did with KT, as I did with Mass -- guy is known to have an attitude and think he is far better than he is. Softness or no, it really wasn't Mo's play ON the court that got him ridden out of NY. Solid veteran whiner. Looking to Mo Taylor for leadership...well, let's just stick to his ability to score. ;)

That said, getting waived and picked up off the scrap heap might be good for the 'ole tude, as well of course being in a contract year (Mo being the type of guy who turned in his career year when $$ was on the line last time).

There might be another dimension to this signing. If during the course of the season, we are able to trade two or more of our frontline players for one (cap space, draft picks or hopefully, KG), having Taylor allows a vet off the bench.

Taylor is going to get minutes off the bench no matter what.
Do you realize the reason the Knicks axed Taylor was because he couldn't play ANY minutes? in other words the dude is done. i will be surprised if he played 15 minutes tops.

another dump signing by the Kings this Organization is showing signs of despration.

Never been a big fan of Mo Taylor, although he hurt us a few times in his career. He's not a bad defender, and he can score. Never been much of a rebounder. Doesn't like being bruised inside I guess. As far as not being a shot blocker, I think people pay way too much attention to those stats. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have one on our team, but a shot blocker is the last line of defense. If you play good team defense, you can win without one.

I tend to agree with VF21. Something seems strange to me. We have a glut of point guards, or people who can play the point. We have a lot of people who can play the two or the three. I stated a couple of weeks ago that I thought KG would be moved. I also stated that I thought Bibby would be moved. At that time I thought Bibby and Miller would be traded for KG. The salarys match. It could make sense for both teams. KG isn't a true center, but if you have him on the floor, you could put SAR or Mo Taylor out there with him and you would be fine. The Wolve's get a top 10 center and a top 10 point guard. You could even throw in Garcia and I think the salary's would match. Just my opinion.

i dont know why everones upset of the signing...

hey common at least it gives us more depth and experience... at a cheap price too...

just wait till it pans out..

i look at as just some more competiton in camp to push other players that think they have a the backup spot. Loren Woods may now put a little more out there to prove himself and maybe the kids will take it as a slap in the face and go in and show that they are just as good or better then the vets. WoW Loren Woods, Vitaley Potapenko, and Maurice Taylor. Now those contracts would have been worth alot the year they were drafted.

I could care less about the signing but now instead of 2 ppl having to go it has to be 3 and I really wanted to see Amundson and Williams develope. I would be fine if some of the others would be let go. But you just can't waive 9 mil in expiring deals.

Yippy skippy and a bottle of rum... In fact, let me get a couple more bottles of rum. I have a feeling I'm going to need them when I watch a PF/C combo of Kenny Thomas and Mo Taylor...

Guess, we all do. However, chances of big men who go undrafted having good carrers is very remote (Before people say Ben Wallace or Brad Miller, remember they are exceptions, rather than the rule). Size is at such a premium and so difficult to obtain via trades or free agency, that teams take considerable risks in picking size in the draft, even if they are projects. In his analysis on ESPN of the outlook for different teams (the Kings analysis is being discussed in a different thread), John Hollinger makes the following observation while discussing the Warriors draft pick

Based on recent history, the Warriors are looking at about one-in-four odds that O'Bryant becomes a useful player -- not a star player, just a decent one. Of the previous 19 players who were at least 7 feet tall, weighed at least 250 pounds and were taken between picks Nos. 4 and 15 in the NBA draft, only four -- Dikembe Mutombo, Chris Mihm, Chris Kaman, and Bryant Reeves -- were even decent, and only Mutombo became an All-Star. DeSagana Diop has a chance to make it five, but either way it's an absolutely horrid hit rate for a draft position where teams otherwise almost always get somebody decent.

While it's always possible to land a decent big player who goes undrafted, we would have to be extremely lucky (assuming they make the roster), if even one of the two players developed into a legit NBA player, demanding regular minutes. For all his faults, Mo Taylor has been around. If Petrie has been able to pick him on the cheap, what is so bad about it?

Mo is a good addition to our team. End of story. Plus with a leader in Artest,it will rub on him to play defense as well....just as he did to our other players. For all you fans who are against or even skeptical about Mo and even Salmons for that matter...remember this day Oct 3 when Petrie will that he made good additions to our team.

I missed the word prove after Petrie.

On playing C, Mo said that with the exception of Shaq and Yao all Cs are 6-9 PFs.

He's happy to play here. Doesn't care that he won't start.

Short interview, only 2 minutes.
