Free Agency Thread - 2018

Capela makes a ton of sense for the Kings imo. The Kings need an upgrade from WCS to help the development of Fox, Bagley and Buddy.

Capela can hold down the fort for 4 years and then Giles can take over aftwards and Kings can let Capela walk in free agency then.

If the Kings offer him a 4 year max deal, Houston may hesitate because of the luxury tax bill due to the CP3 contract. They might go sign Alex Len or something for cheap instead and hope that they can develop him the same way they did Capela.

If the Rockets match, fine it was a gamble worth taking. Right now, there’s not all that much movement in free agency anyway so having the cap space tied up for 48 hrs won’t kill the team imo.

Capela is a player that has had national TV exposure. Other players know about him and his ability. I think landing a player like that will help Sacramento become a more attractive free agent market as well.

If it's a big it should be a young project who can try and fight his way into the rotation, who can be signed for a few years thats low risk and high reward.

Gimmie Noah Vonleh or even Alex Len, or if they really want to gamble Chris McCullough..

If people were mad that Bagley wasnt put in a position to succeed in summer league, wait till you see him playing with a complete non shooting center against Nba defenses.

Bagleys game atm seems to be getting the ball in the move near the basket and finnishing once he has slight edge on his defender. If you want to utilize that correctly, you cant have a non shooting big man clogging the lane in the dunker spot. Bagley needs to be the player in the dunker spot.

If you want to make things easy for Bagley (and have an efficent offense), you need to have him setting screens to Fox with three shooters surrounding and either attack the switch or get the ball against traditional pick n roll coverage when he has leverage over his defender. Also running pick n pops with Fox&Giles while Bagley at the dunker spot trying to force Bagleys defender to help.

Bagley atm doesnt seem to be a guy you just throw the ball to and let him beat his man, force defence to help and create your whole offense around that. Having to operate with non shooting bigs and no room under the basket is just putting him in a bad position. To me it should be a no brainer to use him as the center on offense with a floor stretching 4. But again if you look how Joeger refused to change his system to support Fox's strengths, I'm a little afraid he will be mostly playing with KK and Willy while making things very hard for both him and Fox.
I’m worried about that as well and I think it puts more pressure on Vlade to put together a well rounded roster and to think one step ahead of his stubborn coach.

I'm at the point of selling cash for draft picks and a cheap vet pg

Unless Kings are getting a Top 10 pick, it’s ridiculous. There’s no benefit to this at all.

A lot of teams will have money to spend next year. Kings are NOT getting any top free agent. Guaranteed. So, Kings Best chance to get a decent player is this year.

Steve Kyler: So word in Vegas is Orlando Magic talked with Isaiah Thomas but unlikely to move forward with a deal. Magic may hold the line at this point and see what else develops. They want to stay flexible in case something opens up. Did it last year with Jonathan Simmons

He just wants to be wanted . . .

Sign him to a small deal. IT will have a chip on his shoulder. He could come off the bench and add instant offense.
Sign IT and One Of Hood/Capela/Parker

Yeah. The concern is that Vlade really is too proud to move on from WCS, because in that scenario there are too many bigs. To me Bagley/Giles and maybe Skal alone don’t necessitate that

Yeah well they're pretty much all signed up. No way IT comes back, we aren't maxing a big with the amount we have already, wings are gone, who else is there?

I love Capela, I really do. But I just think investing a giant contract into him screws up our best chance of getting good (Bagley/Giles getting really, really good) for the long-term. The next 2 years should be solely about developing Fox/Bogdan/Buddy/Giles/Bagley core and putting the right pieces around them to make them better.

Marcus Smart fits that bill to a T. He's got multi-positional versatility, he's instantly our best defender and he just makes his team better. Kind of stunning that for how bad of an offensive scorer/shooter he is, he's still makes his teams offense better.

I'd throw all the money we just did at Lavine right to Smart. That'd put insane pressure on the Celtics to match and we'd get a player for 4 years who would actively help our core develop and be better.

I really don't understand when people say it's an overpay? Do you actually think a very good player is coming to Sac, unless their overpaid. Really? I mean Really?

Capela may not be worth 4/80. I would say 4/60. But, I actually think he's more valuable than Nurkic. In the pick and roll, Capela is great.
He would automatically be the best rebounder this team ever had. So, if the Kings go after him(Which they are not smart enough. So detractors don't worry) For those that like Capela, it will take 4/80 from Sac to get him.

4/80 for a guy that can't shoot. Yes, I love Smart's D and Intangibles. But, another reason he thrives is Boston's system and incredible talent depth. Boston is so deep they are able to overcome a lot of Smart's weaknesses. I am not so sure Smart would have the same impact in Sac. 4/80 for Smart would be just as dumb as signing Levine.

Capela is for sure worth 4/80, but I don't think he fits well enough necessarily for us to do that. I prefered Lavine and possibly Parker at around that price tag.

I think 12-15 would be the maximum you would want to throw at Smart. He is only going to get 6.1 or something from Boston so either way it is a big jump
