Probably best for both sides at this point, we need his space for bad contracts to be absorbed and he needs to be on a contender or playoff team. We dont have to hit the salary floor, the rest of the money can just be distributed to the guys on the roster, also I think you have the entire season to hit the floor so why not be patient with it.

Color me surprised by this move. Like Capt has pointed out in this thread and others, we have to get to salary floor one way or another, so if not Tolliver it has to be someone else. We won't get there with a whole team of rookies and 2nd/3rd year players. I assume Afflalo gets waived and or traded also. That leaves Koufus and Temple as the only "vets." I guess we could be looking to keep one of Collison or Lawson.
I'm not even sure what players are available in FA this year but history shows they won't be coming here. I just don't want to see us throw big $ at middling vets.
Hopefully this is just a move to give us more wiggle room for draft day deals to get the players we want.
Or maybe we're just clearing $ to max out Mclemore

So we save $6 million by waiving him?
Can't say I'm surprised by the move, I suspect we are clearing as much space as possible to throw money at one or two of the top RFAs or possibly UFAs to help expidete the rebuild.
From a contribution stand point he's not really going to be missed on the court since he's a steady journeyman but nothing amazing. However, as a locker room guy he had an impact, but that can be replaced by adding the right people and empowering the existing young leaders to step up.

Really liked Anthony and I'm sad to see him go. I have to believe this was purely a basketball decision as the Kings are going really young this year and have some really good vets still on the roster in KK and Temple. Still loved having AT if nothing else to give the young guys another example of someone who knows the work it takes to stay in the NBA. Good Luck AT!

I keep thinking a move up with Phoenix to assure Fox and take on Knights contract, but then that potentially negates any reason why we would need to move up to get Fox anyway. Unless Phoenix has more interest in the salary dump than getting Fox themselves.
Could Vlade be opening up cap space to take on someones bad contract for a 2019 1st? It would be one way to soften the blow of that questionable trade with Philli.

As it stands now it doesn't serve a purpose, but it could depending on deals that come in the future. It could afford us the opportunity to take some salary back in a future deal and add draft picks or young players from cash-strapped teams. Basically cap space creates more flexibility, which isn't helpful unless its used for something.

I doubt this was to spend on free agents, I think (hope) Vlade has learned his lesson the last 2 years. Most likely this is to take on bad contracts for more picks over the next couple of years. I know people hate the idea of Noah or Turner here for the next 3 years, but cap space is worthless to the Kings. Picks aren't If the Knicks were desperate enough to give up the #8 or even next years #1 for Noah's contract that would be a steal for the Kings. If the Blazers would give up 2 of this years' firsts for Turner again I jump at that.

I have no problem with extending a max contract on a player like Otto Porter, who is only 23 years old. Don't get me wrong, if Chris Paul wants to end his career in purple and black, I'm on board, just for the fun of it. Ditto Paul George! But that's not likely to happen.

That said, there aren't that many young players that are freeagents that would command that kind of money.
