2016 NBA Draft Discussion

Man, I really love Dunn. I would give up Rudy and the #8 for the #3 no problem. That kid is dynamite. I would then throw the max at Bradley Beal and hope he bites, but that's for another thread!

I'm hoping we learned our lesson with T-Rob and McLemore...two great athletes who just haven't put it together. Too early still I know, but you don't necessarily always have to go with the athlete...give me a smart ball player with average athleticism any day of the week. Feel for the game is way more important. Good mechanics.
Agreed. I know some people on here are really high on Jaylen Brown but I have my doubts about it . I think Kings should take into consideration his personality . Is he a type A ( i.e. Kobe , Jordan ). or a type B personality (i.e. Ben Mclemore ? ). If he is strong type A, I would take that risk on him given his athletic gifts. If he is type A fiery competitor type, I could see him developing into a star because he will work on his game until he's good. But If he's a laid back type B personality like Ben, I would run away . He will only be a average player at best .

Brown has the personality and mentality of an all-star. It would be a mistake to pass on him at 8 if he's there. He's still raw, but he's nothing like Ben/T-Rob.
But Ben could shoot. Brown can't. Brown is much more raw than. Ben coming out of Kansas. However, you're right about the attitude. He has a superstar attitude, and that'll help his development. Make no mistake about his rawness though... I fully expect a lot of his pts in his rookie year to come off transition. That might be his only translatable strength right now.

I'm not super high on Brown, but he has the aggressiveness that Ben has always lacked.

If this were really the way it went down I would hope we would consider moving heaven and Darren Collison to Denver to move up to #7 and get Bender instead: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/version-iv--the-vertical-s-2016-nba-mock-draft-160519135.html

Of course that would mean us basically not having two assets (Collison and Bender who may well stay overseas) in a year when we need every one we can get. Still, the unicorn might be the one thing you chase at that cost. Maybe. Gotta build a winner this year or its all just consolation prizes for another rebuild anyway.

Have been wondering a bit how a guy who averaged:

14.6pts on .431FG% .294THR% .654FT% (i.e. can't shoot worth crap)has been getting consideration as a top prospect.

I like the physical defender angle, but if you can't even shoot in college you could easily end up being a 7ppg roleplayer in the NBA, if you pan out. If you don't pan out you become a 12th man/out of the league guy. Its all degrees, but that seems like possibly the roleplayer prospect you draft at #18-#20 more than a guy you group with potential stars.

We have another player that fits this mold...only he is a ten year vet.

Wizards will give Beal the max and their max carries a lot more money than our max would. Beal is not going anywhere.

Someone caught draft fever of unlimited possibility. :) Bender's main chip is how absolutely dominant he looked in tourneys against his peers. And we've seen a couple of past examples of huge early success, that didn't fulfill their promise, though that was never packaged in a 7'1" body. Still Kings will need not only catch, but also tame this unicorn.

Ahem, I'm afraid a certain Darko Milicic would like to disagree with you.

As someone who has seem a lot of Darko both pre and post NBA and in the NBA, Darko's failures have never been a lack of talent. In terms of pure talent, he was every bit as talented if not more than Pau Gasol. Unfortunately, Darko is a mental midget who was happy to get his millions and cruise through his career, retire and live a cruisy life back home.

The Kings are praying Hield falls to them at No. 8. He has been on Vlade Divac and owner Vivek Ranadive’s radar for months and is exactly the sort of player they need — both as a shooter and as a high-character player who is focused on winning. 1 day ago – via ESPN.com
Vivek needs to stay the **** out of basketball operations.

We were a top 10 team in 3pt% this season. I suppose every team could always use another elite shooter but we need a great perimeter defender way more than we need another shooter right now. Actually we need about 3 solid perimeter defenders and one great one.

Well, it's not an either/or thing. What we need are players that can do both. Shoot the three consistently, and play defense. If we keep sacrificing one for the other, we'll never be any good. As far as Brown goes, I'll be surprised if the Kings draft him if he's the only one left in the top eight. I think they either trade down, or reach for either Baldwin, or one of the international players like Korrkmaz or Luwawu.

So far, the Kings have brought in one player that might be considered a lottery pick. Baldwin! now that could change in the next couple of days, but if not, then I have to believe that they already know who thier pick is, and feel confident that he'll be there when they pick. Or, they have a trade in place for draft day. There's a lot of smoke in the air right now. Everyone is singing Muddy Waters.
