Kings and free agency - part 2

Why the hell would we offer Brewer more than 8M/Y?

Good lord. Backup SF isn't a big enough of a weakness to dole out that kinda money for that dude. Go after Koufas or another 3rd big.

Talks between the Sacramento Kings and Patrick Beverley are progressing, according to sources. They may be nearing a deal.
That's good news but I wonder what that means with Rondo/DC. We don't need Rondo, Beverley and DC.

ESPN sources say Corey Brewer has spurned richer offer from Sacramento Kings to stay in Houston on a three-year deal in excess of $23 mil

Wow, we offered him more than $8 million? No thanks.
Im 100% sure that God is finally intervening here in that these deals and we are being saved from ourselves...

Ellis, Brewer, Mathews....maybe Rondo? These are dodged bullets...

Im happy Dallas got Mathews .... the odds of him getting back to 90 let alone 100% are slim and theres no chance he's gonna be the defensive stopper he was before... Paying him more than Cousins and Gay with that injury is madness

Memphis has shown a willingness on sign-and-trades with free agent center Kostas Koufos, an option the Clippers will need to investigate.

Why would Memphis do that? Kings need to steal him away
The Clippers doen's have match to offer- if Memphis loves Jamal Crawford they can send him with some change to them, that's better than losing him for nothing and Jamal is on an expiring deal...

Anyway, I'm not crazy about Koufos for us- I really like him as a player, but I don't see him sharing the floor with Cousins- and if he is truly just a back-up for when Cousins sits- that's too much money to spend on it.

I think we should go for O'Quinn.
PF/C, solid defender, nice rim-protector- with a good midrange jumper, and he has been trying to stretch it all the way to the 3 point line (not there yet).

That's amazing news. Rondo can go jump in a lake. Beverly is better than him and DC is far superior as a starter to Rondo.

Two things need to go right though for us to get him though. First he has to agree then we have to hope Houston doesn't match. Does anyone know if they have his bird rights? He was signed after being out of the league for a few years so I'm not sure if he was on a standard rookie deal or not.

Be nice, but I would assume mean that Rondo said no?

And I called Brewer earlier -- he worked well with Karl, and we are doubtless still looking for a perimeter defender with Belli signed.
wow this would be great news... Neither Rondo or Beverley are perfect at this point but defense and shooting is a must and Beverley would be a WAAAY better option and probably be signed cheaper with a 2-3 year deal.

Yes full Bird rights, he is an RFA so they can match us...

I'd love to have him, especially after we got Belinelli...

Could just be leverage for Beverly. He'd be the backup btw. Not an issue for Darren. (I would think, but who knows with this team.)

Also signing him probably ends the Rondo pursuit.

I'm starting to think I know what kings are doing. Outside media sees it as us overpaying and getting rejected. But what we are doing is driving up the salaries on the other NBA teams handcuffing them in the future. Like on eBay when u keep bidding it higher with no intention to buy just to make the other guy pay more. Well played Vlade

Looks like Sac is trolling Houston, re-signing Beverley and Brewer all but takes them out of the Aldridge race. If they were ever in it of course.

I'm pretty sure Houston matches on Beverley. I doubt they had enough to run the gauntlet with him but without him they looked lost. Unless they are interested in getting Lin back or something. I think Houston needs more scoring at PG than what Beverley gives them, if they come back with the same team next year against a healthy OKC, Warriors, and potentially Aldridge on the Spurs they are solidly in the middle of the pack and no more. A Howard/Harden duo isn't enough to get it done talent wise.

What's everyone's opinion on if Beverley signs, would he be backing up Collison?

He was a starter with the Rockets so it might be hard for him to swallow unless he is massively overpaid. But why would we do that for a bench guy? They are both too small to start side by side.

I wouldn't doubt that game is being played with Houston to nab Beverley from them, but in reality, players are simply saying "Thanks, but no thanks". Vivek should be learning from this that if you create an animal house atmosphere, even if it's only on the surface, it will cost you in the end.

I'd like Beverly backing up Collison,.....but it may actually mean another trade on the horizon.

I still think a trade with Denver will happen

It would depend I guess. I saw a tweet earlier on one of those basketball twitter sites, I think Hoopshype, saying something about Darren going to Houston. I really hope that's not true.
