Cousins trade rumors (the sequel)

Guys the Lakers trade is NOT happening anymore, GAURANTEED. Down here in so cal they are already marketing Russell as the heir to Kobe, comparisons to Magic, they are all in on this kid. Local radio is selling the kid hard on listeners. They are not trading him.

Them picking Russell is the best thing that could have happend. His game has Hollywood all over it and LA teams love guys with flair.

Vibe in Cousins camp is that it boils down to a communication issue in Sac that is expected to be addressed soon #Kings #NBA

As I said on Twitter, Ah the difference a day - and a Divac - can make. :)
In addition, I wouldn't downplay the acquisition of WCS, known to be DMC's pick of the draft. Divac is saying and doing all the right things so far, I hope it continues for as long as he is here. My favorite part about his interview yesterday was when he was asked how he would approach free agents, he said the same way Petrie approached him so long ago. That really solidified everything for me.

See? I told all y'all. I told you that your time would be better spent contemplating that 3-team Christina Hendricks trade than all of this nonsense.

I believe I had that. Now look at you: all y'all got your blood pressure up for nothing.

Next Magic Johnson huh? Well one thing is for sure, he wont be any good on the defensive end. The 7akers now have a week defender at the point of attack and nobody to defend the rim. Theyre going nowhere, fast. What a joke of a franchise the other LA team is.

you cannot say he will not be a good defender when he hasn't even played one minute in the summer leagues yet. They said the same thing with Cuz 5 years ago.....

It would be more funny if it wasn't so sad... but journalism has really hit bottom now.

You can write an article under your name, with your headline, which basically says "I read an interesting article yesterday" or "I saw an interesting tweet yesterday" - and muse a little about what it means to you - and then it will be linked in twitter as YET ANOTHER ARTICLE on the same topic.

I mean seriously wtf? It must be hard for real journalists these days - their craft is becoming a mockery.

It most likely went like this.

Fegan: Trade DMC
Vivek: Bring us an offer we cant refuse.
Fegan: Vivek said he will trade DMC.
Or something like,

Fegan: I'll dance around until you trade DMC.
Vivek: Are you telling me DMC doesn't want to be around?
Fegan: Maybe... ?
Vivek: Oh well then my hands are tied. Vlade, if there is any offers, we could maybe start listening to them?
Vlade: Don't be stupid. Fegan can't tango by himself. I'll fix this.

Too many journalists, not enough news.

A coach not being at the rookie press conference is abnormal, yes?
hmm, well Malone was at Nik's last year:

But we don't know Karl's style/preference, especially after he just had his hand slapped by the GM for sticking it into the cookie jar. Could also be an organizational decision to have him not attend to avoid the distraction/questions.

Would have been a great statement if Karl had been there and gushed over the pick, exchanged positive glances with Vlade, etc. But they're obviously not there yet. Pete D'Alessandro and Michael Malone are getting along better than Vlade and Karl right now apparently

Malone there for Ben and Ray too:

Smart there for Thomas Robinson:

Westphal there for Jimmer:

Westphal there for Cousins:

So yeah, guess its interesting that Karl wasn't there, because he was definitely in town just a couple of days ago. Wonder if Vlade sent him on vacation down to Mexico too. We're going to need to start playing the Godfather theme whenever Vlade shows up on a podium. :)

I wouldn't say it's abnormal. Likely depends on schedules and such. However, in this case, I think the powers that be, decided they wanted to keep this press conference about Willie Cauley-Stein, and had Karl been there, the temptation would have been too great for some of the writers to start asking questions about the past week or so. So from that perspective, I don't think it's a surprise that Karl wasn't there.

Well as I showed above its pretty damn abnormal for us.

On the other hand for the Nuggets, they didn't appear to have ANYBODY up there on the podium with Faried and crew:

so it might just be a culture thing, with Karl coming from a longtime culture of not showing up, and the Nuggets very rarely having a pick during his Denver tenure anyway (they did what we must start to, and sold off pick after pick to get the right vets for playoff runs)

I certainly don't like Karl not being there. In fact, nothing I've heard so far makes me like Karl. I'll tell you this much, he's already placed himself on the hot seat. After alienating our star player, and pissing off both the GM and the owner, a few losses to start out the season and he might have secured himself an easy retirement package.

Ok.

But the only thing wrong with that scenario you just painted is that it is completely outside of the cluster of data points that we have collected on Boogie's ultra-loyal personality.
I really hope you too are right in reading Cousin's mind. That is the only hope we can count on. I hope Cousins is someone who really can be loyal to Sacramento Kings. Otherwise, if Vlade's effort to reconcile Karl and Cousins failed, we'll be seeing another miserable drama-filled season OR one of the two personalities out the door before the season ends. And I really hope and pray it would be Karl if the latter has to happen.

BTW, is Cousins a native of Sacramento?

Financially-wise and glitter-wise, where would Cousins be in the best situation especially now that Kobe is about to be gone after this coming season?

I don't think the Lakers are in play for Cousins anymore. They've made their pick and have already started to sell him as possibly the guy that takes the torch from Kobe. With each day that Russell is paraded around as the newest lakers star, it makes it that much more difficult to trade him before he even plays a game.

Ideally for the lakers, they would have to agree to some deal with the Kings so the Kings pick their guy. The Kings might have picked Russell too but you know where I'm getting at. Right now, it looks like the lakers are moving forward with Russell and focusing on signing Aldridge or Love or some other big like Monroe.

The Cousins deal seemed like something that if it's going to happen, it had to happen on draft day. It's really not worth the trouble at some point.
The Lakers can give everyone in their team (including Russell) and still will come out a winner if this trade happens. I actually have the feeling that Laker's went for Russell to tempt Vlade and Karl in the near future. Hoping along the way, Cousins will eventually really insist to be out of Sacramento and Vlade will finally be forced to make the trade, since Russell et all from the Lakers will be a great fit with Karl's system.

Cousins, Aldridge or Butler, and the soon-retiring Kobe is still going to be a very good core to have for now. And when Kobe retires, Lakers gets more cap space, get another Superstar or good role-players and they will be set as a formidable force once again in the West.

I guess what I am saying is Cousins is almost a finished product destined to be at the top 3-5 players in the league. Russell, Randell, Clarkson, who are these guys compared to Cousins?

Cousins is definitely a budding superstar. Lakers can get another Superstar to pair with him and for sure they will be set again for greatness. And that has how the Lakers been very good at doing for so many years.

Oh get off it. Seriously.

Have you had blinders on this entire time? Can you not get to know a person through their actions, hearing them speak, etc? You sound like the most cynical person on the planet and basically incapable of trusting anyone.

It is actually possible to get to know the personalities of the players on the Kings. It is not "reading their minds" as you so artfully put it. And it is not at all the only hope. That is unless you are severely autistic (with all due respect to autistic folks) and cannot read body language, tone of voice, context, social cues, and comprehend the actual words that boogie has repeatedly said, and this is key, *when he had nothing to gain* (now he/his agent really thought they did, so the spin comes out).

It's like you are willfully ignoring trying to get to know DMC the person. The guy is not motivated by glitz, glamour, or even money. He's motivated by true glory (not sell out glory), honor, and loyalty. If you can't see this by now, I have to say, there really is no hope for you.

IF Cousins leaves, it will not be because he lost his loyalty, or he went chasing fame in LA, it will be because his heartfelt loyalty was not returned, repeatedly, and he was lied to. Which has already happened, BIG TIME, by firing Malone. Cousins is no deserter. But when the Army is corrupt from the inside out, any good soldier will find a better cause.

Vlade is truly our only hope in retaining Cousins, as Vlade understands that players who play with heart, for glory, need an honorable leadership to serve. Vlade is that honorable man. He must hold his seat. Cousins is skeptical, and rightly so, but he hasn't given up. I believe time, and Vlade, will heal and strengthen our team. Because Cousins sure as hell doesn't trust Vivek right now. Not after that debacle of a season. Who would?!
