Kings trade Sessions for Andre Miller

#61
Really like the move. Already have a somewhat serviceable backup PG in McCallum, so we trade Sessions who has another year on his contract for Miller who is an expiring and can help mentor some of our guards during the short stint he is here. Not to mention he can still play a bit.

Our guaranteed contracts next year are now:
PG - Collison/McCallum/???
SG - McLemore/Stauskas
SF - Gay/???
PF - ???/Landry/Moreland
C - Cousins/Thompson

That's not a lot of fat (looking at you Landry), but if you sign a guy like O'Quinn, a guy like Middleton, and a third PG (not to mention having a possible top 10 pick). We could be looking pretty good next year.

Solid move, I like it. We need any help we can get on the bench and Miller is definitely an upgrade over what Sessions was giving us.

I hope before the deadline we can find another simple move like this that helps the bench.

Now for the really important question: what number will he have? Miller has only worn two numbers in his career and, barring another trade, he can't wear either of them in Sacramento.

I guess this narrows the number of trade options before the end of the day, no?

Andre Miller's aunt is hilarious.. I remember after one game when the blazers were loading up for the bus, I was on the floor and his aunt kept shouting "THATS MY NEPHEW HE KILLED YALL THATS MY NEPHEW I'M ANDRE MILLER'S AUNT"

Miller clearly has lost what he once was, but is STILL 10 x better at getting the ball where it needs to be WHEN it needs to be there. As opposed to a completely out of control pinball aka Sessions and throw in some vet experience? Clearly better than having Sessions around. Have to assume, if he does hang it up after the season, his close relationship with Karl could land him in an assistant spot ?

This was a fantastic move.

Miller expires. If he has another season in the tank, he is a vet minimum option. I've heard he has contacts in the Sacramento area so welcomes this.

He also is 9th in career assists of all time and high IQ.

Will help Karl tremendously in practice teaching and running Karl's new systems.

And not a bad possible candidate for a future assistant job, guy has seen it all.

One small move plugged the problem with the backup pg. It depends a lot on Collison's recovery but this is what I have wanted - an improvement in the bench.

Going to miss my guy Andre Miller. He's one of the best basketball minds that I have ever been around. - Kris Humphries
Even if he doesn't see floor time. I'm glad we have someone like this on the team for the remainder of the year. Should be able to transfer some knowledge to our roster.

Great move.
Miller has forgotten more about passing and running an offense than ANY Kings PG ever knew since Beno (this includes Collison).

Getting a high-IQ player who knows the game, the league, and what Karl is trying to do is a HUGE plus.
The benefit of this trade isn't remotely about money, or attitude - Miller is 10 times the better player than Sessions for what the Kings need to do/learn to get better.

But truly, there is so little to not like about this move and its so insignificant its almost not worth talking about.

BTW a likely timeline:

-- PDA drafts Ray McCallum, who is about the only player he ever "discovered". He badly wants him to play.
-- McCallum is not ready and Malone begs all last season for a real backup PG. PDA refuses, helping fuel the dislike and hurt our record.
-- Malone continues demanding a real backup PG over the summer, and so right on the eve of training camp PDA finally relents and signs Sessions off the scrap heap
-- Sessions then is beyond terrible, helping undermine Malone in the process since Malone was blamed for wanting him. He suddenly disappears with a vague "injury" just as Malone's tenure comes to an end
-- Karl comes, Pete talks to him about bringing back a decrepit old man who used to play for them both just to be a safety valve, but not get in the way of Pete's boy again
-- Welcome Andre
