Kings trade Sessions for Andre Miller

#91
I really like the Andre Miller trade for the very shaky Ramon Sessions, Miller might be old but the guy is a veteran with tons of experience and that's what we need, another vocal leader aside DeMarcus Cousins, someone with a lot of experience who isn't afraid of big moments, Miller knows the game of basketball very well and his is first and for most a team player, and a good thing about him is that he can also pull some pleasant and unpredictable surprises of his sleeves.
I think that he is a very nice asset and he can also help young Ray McCallum to develop as a player in this league.

But overall I am pretty much disappointed by the Kings management, I think the Kings could also trade D.Will, Nik Stauskas and Jason Thompson and receive some very nice assets for them, I mean D.Will really doesn't worth his contract and I thought the Kings should've at least tried to trade him, Stauskas doesn't look very well thus far and I believe we could receive and good young promising player for him.

And as much as I love JT, the guy according to the media had asked to be traded, so I think the Kings should have agreed to his request and trade him for a decent PF instead.

I really believe the Kings could achieve more than they did today.

Williams is an expiring so his contract amount really doesn't mean much at all. If anything, he holds value as his expiring contract gives us more cap space to work with. I could see why you would want him moved since you're obviously a big fan of Casspi's and want to see him flourish as much as possible. Moving Williams leaves nobody to share minutes with at the backup SF.

Stauskas' value is at an all time low right now. I would only trade him if the piece(s) that come back are equivalent to what his trade value was on draft night. I don't want to sell low on this kid. Like we saw with McLemore, it can take some time to get in the swing of things. He's a smart guy with a good work ethic. I'm sure he's going to figure it out. He just lacks confidence right now. Once he starts to gain some more confidence, I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with what we have in Stauskas.

Thompson is a role player. He can request a trade all he wants, but he literally has no leverage. I can understand why he would want out after everything the Kings have put him through, but I think if we get back to winning games, he'll be content staying in Sacramento. And by keeping him, we have a very good third big off the bench when we finally find that starting big man to put next to Cousins.

I have been hoping they would do very little and let Karl figure out who he can use, who can improve under him, etc.

It's really a bit of a nothing trade! Miller is a vet who is done but provides some familiarity with Karl. He also gives us an extra $2m in expiring deals

My question is, are we now officially a tax paying team? IIRC we were right up against the luxury tax treshold before this deal.

Also, other than Draymond Green, who are the other stretch 4s that will be available in free agency? Expect us to try and make a run at Green. He is a GS player after all!

We had a 4 million gap before the LT line. This is only a 2 million addition.

I like Dre Miller. His is supposed to be a great basketball mind. I wish he was a few years younger but it is what it is:) He still has a lot of veteran experience he can share. He also is just the sort of basketball lifer who makes a great coach.

You are partially right, I am obviously very pro- Casspi but trading D.Will is really what the team needs, I mean we could also get a very decent SF for trading Williams with or maybe a decent backup SG for the team since Stauskas doesn't look very well, team comes first, I obviously want to see Casspi makes the best out of his situation and flourish but that gives me nothing is the team is stuck.

It's all well and good to want to trade DWill. The problem is in finding someone willing to take him. People seem too often to forget about that second part.

We should've traded him for Kyle Singler...but eh, whatever.

I'd be willing make huge bet not a single NBA team inquired about DWill but that PDA floated his name constantly in calls he made leading up to trade deadline.

Good idea. I have watched Sessions play for a long time including the U of Nevada. He has some skills, but I am tired of watching him throw passes into the stands.
The Kings' desperately need some veteran players in the back court. Miller can be a great teacher, and be a role player. Karl trusts him.

For what it's worth, I saw something the other day about how Draymond wanted badly to go to Detroit.

We always talk about the value of ending contracts. It would appear that we decided that his value as an ending contract to us was higher than what any other teams thought of him. Well, that just means more money to spend in free agency, right?

I think the fact that we couldn't find a taker for him tells us all we really need to know about value of DWill throughout the league.

Miller is a fossil but I'd still take his veteran presence and leadership over Sessions anyday....plus he played with Karl in Denver so they have a good relationship.

Than what explains this team "showcasing" DWill with so damn much court minutes since early December?

If they couldn't even get a trade for him, that was precious minutes of failure that hurt the team's success quite a bit this year.

What hurt the teams success this year was the firing of coach Malone. D-Will alone did not cause the spiral.

Couldn't it be the "showcasing" was a last attempt to try and find someone who would think he was worth getting? It failed, but not for lack of trying.

There is not much downside to this move at all. Sessions has struggled here and I am sure he is a lot better player than he showed here.

Miller is a veteran. He is a pass first guy. He is someone that is familiar with George Karl and his system. Remember this time last year we tried getting him from Denver but we were not willing to give up what Denver wanted for him. We got him 12 months later. He is not going to be a major minute guy but he will bring some solid back up minutes to the position.

Another plus is all this is that Miller is an expiring contract where as Sessions has another year to go after this one for some $2.2 million. This means that we would have additional $2 million in cap space to go free agent hunting.

Nope. Apparently, all sorts of trade exceptions were used in the deal. The difference is we don't have to pay Sessions next season, which can be big for this off-season.

And I'm glad we stayed put. Karl now has 30 games to "tryout" who he wants on the team long-term.
