Kings trade Sessions for Andre Miller

And we helped George Karl get a head start on assembling his coaching staff for next year. (I can see Miller making the transition)
I hadn't thought of that. Makes a lot of sense. If Miller has an interest in coaching (and Karl has a successful run with the Kings) Miller could potentially be a very good successor. Maybe one more year as a player (?) and then a couple years as an assistant?

Good move, finally a backup PG that knows what he is doing out there. Can't play a lick of defense but his basketball IQ is unquestioned and he's a Karl guy that will get Cousins and Gay good looks and get the best out of our spotty bench players. Maybe we can get one more year out of him next season.

You sucked all year, Ramon. Your punishment? Being banished to a playoff team where you'll probably actually play more than here! So there!

Boring as this might be, I don't expect the Kings to make any further moves. Karl wants to see what he has on this team, I think he actually likes the potential of McLemore and Stauskas and wants to see what he can get out of them. This move was necessary and risk-free. Collison is hurt right now and it is a lingering injury, probably won't be the same the rest of the season, Miller takes his place when he can't play and provides stability. Sessions isn't the type of player who could do that.

Unless we can get back a rim protector or stretch power forward for a package of Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams then I think our day is done.

A subtle but perhaps important move. Miller is a rock and a steady presence and most importantly he is good at feeding big men and running an offense. Something that no one off the bench has been able to do.

With the Kings moving in on Miller 3 hours before the deadline, you'd have to think we are either out of Dragic chase our our package has to include Collision. Because even PDA isn't crazy enough to make a Dragic / Collision / Miller mess today, right?

We are probably out. With the Heat reportedly putting two firsts on the table, our likely Collision and Nick offer effectively puts us out.

If we are offering Collision and Ben for a guy that has an agent that's telling us, we'll never stay and you can stuff that 5th year up your but ... maybe it could still happen and Andre Miller will be here a while.
I'd be willing to bet a decent amount of money we're out of the Dragic sweepstakes. We can't match the two 1sts Miami is offering, and we were already hesitant with him refusing to sign a long term deal with us.

Can't wait to see Reggie + Andre circlejerking about the good old days and how soft the league has become.

This was a Karl move for sure. Will probably eventually try to make him part of his staff. Miller has been woeful the last month or so with Washington but he can't be much worse than Sessions and could be a good presence for DMC and Collison.

We removed ourselves from the Dragic sweepstakes after he said he wouldn't re-sign with us.

You know that Sessions is going to pull a JJ Hickson and magically turn back into a 13ppg bench spark plug for the Wizards! And I don't care at all. Like the move a lot!

What are the salary differences?
With the pro-rated salaries it's hard to say exactly. If we assume for the league calculations there are 30/82 games left (that's what we have, but I'm not sure where the league's pro-rating value is) the numbers are this: We save $2.17M next year on Ramon's contract (and on the cap) - Miller is a free agent. This year we pay an extra about $930K for Miller over the last 30 games relative to Sessions. So we save a total of roughly $1.25M in total dollars, and on top of that a bit under $1M gets shifted to this year's cap instead of next year's.

This is a very minor trade with little impact, but there is no point. I doubt it will help either team. I guess the positive for the Kings is Sessions is no longer with the team and it can open more opportunities for McCallum to hit the floor.

I'm sure Miller will be waived anyway.

Not at all. This move has Karl written all over it. And not like Miller is absolutely finished; dude still played 51/54 games for Washington at 12 MPG and was productive in those minutes.

He may or may not be waived, but I doubt he'll get any minutes. He's going to be 39 years old in a month and seems to have nothing left in the tank.

Good veteran point guard, who will likely play the role of assistant coach with his former head coach.
Miller will be the first PG off the bench without a doubt because Ray sucks and we have no one else. He's a wise and wily vet he will see minutes mostly because we don't have a choice.

I think Andre Miller is done, BUT he's a Karl guy AND he can't be that much worse than Sessions has been AND he's an expiring, so he helps us throw money at Dragic this summer.

Dre!!

I've always liked Miller, don't know how much he has left in the tank (what is he, 45?)... but he can't be worse than Sessions off the bench.

Of course, bringing Kenny Thomas out of retirement and playing him out of position as a PG wouldn't be much worse than Sessions either.

And of course there is the Karl connection.
It immediately helps us improve in the turnover department as well. He'll show our guards what patience and ball movement/decision making us all about

Great great move

A very solid, under the radar, move. Miller brings winning intangibles to us.

We've now got two former karl players, in Reggie Evans and Miller, who are like additional coaches on the "floor" as players. Really like this, for where we currently are
