Too often I've seen Flea left off of similar lists because people don't get that Red Hot Chili Peppers is, essentially, a funk band.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have slowly drifted more towards rock & pop, but their roots are clearly funk. George Clinton produced their first two albums after all. I've liked their last two albums, but for my money their best was Blood Sugar Sex Magik followed closely by Mother's Milk.
