Is Jefferson still available?
How about a package involving Martin and JT being the main players to Indiana sending Granger to Minnesota and Jefferson to us.
- Minnesota gets what they want Granger.
- We get Jefferson what some of us want.
- Would Indiana accept?
There was a blurb in the Bee again on Saturday about Minny maybe being interested in Kevin, but again wiht the provison it was not clear if they would trade Lobe or Jefferson to get him.
But looking at their salaries, they've got a number of healthy sized enders stacked up. What about instead of Jefferson:
Kevin Martin $10.8mil
for
Mark Blount $8.0mil (ender)
Aleksander Pavlovic $1.5mil (ender)
2010 #1
(they have others enders as well that could work)
Minny has played better of late, and getting Kevin might let them continue that, but they still aren't winning 30 games this season. So if they want to hold onto their "core" guys as Kahn keeps saying -- Jefferson, Love, Flynn and Rubio -- maybe they are willing to move that pikc to pick up a major piece, especially since there really is nobody like Kevin in the high lottery (high scoring/shooting SG) and a shooter is exactly what they need.
So instead of one of these pure salary dump deals, or taking back shaky assets, leaves us with 2 #1s in the Top 10 this summer in a draft top heavy with bigs and two real interesting guards (Wall and Turner). And subtly as well puts us in good position if the owners decide to trash the league in 2011 -- we liquidate our biggest contract, and have more than half our roster at that point on rookie deals. As they come up for renewal, it would be under the new CBA's rules.

With the uncertainty of a new CBA, I am 99% percent confident that the Kings will not be looking to spend on FAs this summer. I think their plan will change to the summer of 2011.Yeah, I just posted on another thread that having cap space at the end of the 2011 season instead of this coming offseason, might put us in the catbird seat under the new agreement. There could be a lot of talented players looking for new contracts and not many teams with cap space.

With the salaries set to come down with the new CBA, the Kings are not going to drop a max contract on anyone this summer.
Then draft Evan Turner?... in a heartbeat!
lets hope your right. It sure would be different league with a hard cap and no bird rights or mid level excemption. It would even the playing field though.
Kmart and Hawes for Al, Kenny Thomas for Dalembert (as was rumored earlier this year) and you're more or less set..
PG - Evans/Beno/Sergio
SG - Donte/Cisco/Omri
SF - Casspi/Cisco/Donte
PF - Jefferson/Thompson/Brockman
C - Dalembert/Thompson
you have you're superstar inside/out game in tyreke and big al, scrappers in casspi, cisco, and thompson, shooting from donte, casspi, cisco.. Interior D/shotblocker in Dalembert (who has been accused of a low bball iq but in this role all we need him to do is what he does best, also if he doesnt work out then he expires after next year), and solid to good D from just about everyone else.. i also think thompson fits the backup pf role perfectly

Yea Granger is a much better player than Kevin. But I think a trade for Kmart+JT/Hawes for Jefferson would be worth it.

I don't think they prefer Martin over Turner, Wall, or Johnson IMO.
I really don't think so. Martin is a little too old for their core, he gets injured every year, and he has a big contract when compared to a rookie deal. They may be interested in him, but giving up a top pick that (as of this moment) is a guaranteed top 5 pick, is far more than they're willing to give up for Martin I'd bet. Teams just don't deal those kind of picks midseason for anything less than a star player. Getting a pick like that for Martin is a pipe dream IMO.
Turner and Wall are potential star players and that is always going to outshine a need for three point shooting. Wes Johnson is pretty much perfect as far as needs go, great off the ball, good defense, and a good spot up shooter, he'd be a great fit with Rubio. Turner is not a bad shooter by the way, he just doesn't have much 3 pt range, his mid range J is solid with very good potential.
It really doesn't matter if their talent starts to get redundant, it's all about piling up good value players and then shipping them off for the right stuff once you have your star players lined up. They may be willing to give up more in the offseason when they know what kind of pick they'll have.

Kevin is 1 year older than Jefferson I think. If Jefferson is staying, logically anybody about his age is in the picture. And again, the interest is rumored to be there. Hence, if the rumors are true they apparently have come to the conclusion age is not an issue. Yet at least.
With 2 top 10 picks, Kings could end with a roster looking like this for next season (the ages I listed are how old they are right now):
Tyreke Evans - 20 years old
Evan Turner - 21 years old
Donte Green - 21 years old
DeMarcus Cousins - 19 years old
Spencer Hawes - 21 years old
Jason Thompson - 23 years old
Omri Casspi - 21 years old
Jon Brockman - 22 years old
Kings could floor a younger team than probably some college teams. Talk about a youth movement. These guys could build chemistry in 2-3 years and be contenders for over a decade.
Kahn was interviewed on the 8th and on the subject of a certain kings wing player returning from injury (Martin), he says he doesn't like the contract. About trading Jefferson, he says won't happen this deadline unless it's something that wows them.
I imagine they must've quizzed Theus about Martin at some point since he coached here. Would not surprise me if he didn't have much complimentary things to say. I don't think neither was very fond of each other. At this point it's hard to see any deal happening with the pups.

"2/8 - More Calls/ SBXLIV" about 37 minutes in the Kahn interview starts and at 52min they talk "fan to fan". That's when the host alludes to acquiring Martin and Kahn says "don't like the contract."
That's funny. Postering at its best. Kahn is such a freaking blowhard. Martin has the best contract in the league amongst all 20 ppg + guys past their rookie deals.
