Would you trade Rudy for Melo?

Well, so long playoffs and probably George Karl as well.

Now back to another summer of interesting cap space situation and possibly one of the busiest offseason not just for the Kings but for the entire NBA.

Some breeze came out of New York that Melo maybe getting soft on his N0-Trade clause. Before folks jumps on me on why would play DMC next to a ball-hogging Anthony, let me put some background stuff. If folks remember, Cousins actually looks up to Anthony from his high school years till early years in the NBA. He even mentioned, I think in his rookie years, that he mimics his game to Melo's game.

My suggestion Rudy/Marco/DC for Melo/O'Quinn

Maybe let Karl walk first. Then call-up New York and tell Melo he can choose his coach if he comes here.

I swear this place is getting more ridiculous with every 'trade move' thread published...

I am unsure if this is purely an attempt of fishing, but I'll bite:
Do you honestly think that Carmelo Anthony of the NYK will not activate his no-trade clause as soon as he finishes picking himself up from the floor after hearing he is traded to the train wreck that is the Sacramento Kings???

FWIW - I think that if Carmelo is traded (and that is a big if) it is to a serious contender. And I suspect most of them won't trade attractive assets for him, so he will probably stay put in the big apple.

Nope.

Not only is Cousins a better player than Anthony right now, he's also 6 years younger. Melo will be 32 to start next season. And the only reason Melo might be softening his no trade clause is to get to a situation where he can play for a contender.

This deal makes zero sense for the Kings and zero sense for Anthony.

Not sure you read this right given your response - OP proposed Gay for Melo, not Cousins for Melo.

No, but I'd trade Gay+WCS+Ben+Curry+Anderson for Porzingis.

Melo is just too old for us to consider him in any trade. His best days are behind him

Ha. You're right. I think I've seen so many Cousins trade ideas I just glossed over it.

In that case, New York wouldn't do that trade in a million years, Melo still wouldn't waive his no trade clause to come to Sacramento and Anthony (while a better player than Rudy) still isn't a great fit next to Cousins, and would be absolutely awful if Rondo also returns.

Yeah, Porzingis would be really nice next to Cousins but New York isn't trading him, primarily because he's a marketing gold mine. I think he'll be a very good but not superstar level player but he's fun to watch, has a great attitude/personality and can provide highlights with his shooting, put back dunks, blocks and even the occasional ball handling even if he looks a bit like a baby giraffe doing so. I don't think he's a player you build around but he's got a great skill set and the fans love watching him.

Can't lie, I'm a gigantic fan of Porzingis. I think he can be a franchise player, and probably the best int. big since Dirk.

I think he would be perfect next to Cousins. This would force him to hopefully play inside more too.
I'd throw our entire farm at him in order to put him next to Cuz. I'd love him in Sacramento.

If the Knicks were to offer Zingers for Cuz...I'd really consider it. I'd rather take Porzingis over the Nets pick at this point. (Looks like it will end up 4th-7th where there's an enormous drop off of talent). I highly doubt they would though.

But Gay for Melo? I'd rather trade Gay for a 2nd rounder than take on Melo's terrible contract. He provides more scoring, but I don't see how he helps the overall team do better. Melo-Cousins don't really fit either...especially when you throw in Rondo. If we get Melo, Rondo is going to ressign. Seems like the Nets' plan... not something I'd want.

I'm a big fan of Porzingis too. I can't even really think of a good comparison for him. He's a bit like Sabonis but Bones was a far better post player and was a good shooter but it didn't make up as much of his offense. Rik Smits is similar though Porzingis is a better rebounder already. He's an unusual player. A 7'3" guy that can curl off picks and hit jumpers. He's different from a lot of bigs (and closer to Durant or Nowitzki) in that he doesn't shoot from a couple places on the floor but looks comfortable anywhere. But then he's nowhere near as fluid as KD or Dirk.

What I think will really determine KP's ceiling (IMO) is if he can become a guy who can punish smaller defenders in the block. Because otherwise I think in the playoffs (if the Knicks ever get there) you'll see opponents trying to throw a wing defender on him who can play him close, follow him around picks and deny him the ball. The counter to that is taking a smaller man into the blocks and scoring consistently.

Not feeling it. Melo has the same bad mojo Rudy has plus he just signed a fat contract extension in the off season...pass.

Carmelo is pretty open in terms of wanting to go all out and win a championship before his time is up. He's not in agreement with Phil in terms of coaching candidates to take the Knicks forward nor is he a fan of the triangle. I think sooner rather than later he'll be traded and whilst im not advocating for it, i am intrigued.

Bringing Ryan Anderson back home makes this moot for me. He can play spot mins at SF with Rudy and Omri.

Honestly, i wouldn't jump for joy at this trade or even the discussions/rumors of it. It would almost be a lateral move in my mind, and i dont care how many all star games Melo has been a part of. Replacing Iso basketball with possibly even more Iso basketball, and a dash of ball pounding for 20 seconds a possession, just isn't my idea of a good time or step in the right direction. No God.
